Download or read book Taurine written by John B. Lombardini and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The underlying philosophy of these two symposia on taurine remains the same as all those that have been held previously: the best way to remain current in the subject matter is to talk directly with the investigators at the forefront of the field. Thus, we brought together some 50 individuals from 11 different countries who have keen interests and active research programs in the many-faceted areas of taurine research. The meetings were held on October 8-10, 1991, in an elegant setting in a resort area at Orange Beach, Alabama, approximately 50 miles outside of Mobile on the Gulf Coast. The meetings were programmed as two separate Symposia held sequentially. The first symposia on October 8 was devoted exclusively to taurine research in the cat, primarily in the area of nutrition, and entitled "The Waltham Symposium on Taurine and Cat Nutrition". The second symposia on October 9 and 10 was open to all fields of taurine research and was entitled "International Taurine Symposium: New Dimensions on its Mechanisms of Actions". If the philosophy of these meetings was to bring both experts and novices together in a discussion and presentation of current taurine research, then the major purpose of the Proceedings is to document the current research efforts and to present an objective summary of where the taurine field stands today and where the focus will be in the future.

Book The Principle of Canine and Feline Nutrition

Download or read book The Principle of Canine and Feline Nutrition written by Shelley Keller and published by . This book was released on 2021-07-08 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It can happen to anyone at any time. You come across a wonderful dog or cat that is looking for a home and gives you that big-eyed look that says, "Pick me." You'll be buying dog food and treats at your local supermarket before you know it. It's simple to fall in love with your pet. Sharing your home with a canine companion can be extremely rewarding. There's no denying that dogs can provide unconditional acceptance and loyalty, as well as constant companionship and stress relief after a long or stressful day. There are a lot of things to consider if you want to keep a cat or dog as a pet. However, the most important of it is the pet's Nutrition. What will you feed it? Would you be able to tell if your cat or puppy needed to lose weight? You might not even realize your cat is overweight because they are so common. However, obese and overweight cats now outnumber healthy-weight cats, and veterinarians are seeing more super-obese dogs and cats. The issue for us is that we like to spoil our cats, and cats like to eat, so it's easy to overfeed them. Cats require more of a variety of essential nutrients, whereas dogs can survive on very little. As a result, cat food contains more protein, fat, minerals, and vitamins. Cat food is also smaller and higher in calories to accommodate their smaller mouths. How much should I give my dog in terms of food? Does the food I'm giving my dog meet his nutritional requirements? As our understanding of the relationship between diet and health advances, and the number of dog foods available grows, it's more important than ever to make feeding decisions based on sound information. Nutrient Requirements of Dogs and Cats is the basis for the information in this book.
