Book Forest Nursery How to Raise and Manage

Download or read book Forest Nursery How to Raise and Manage written by S.S. Sagwal and published by Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2020-01-10 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the present era, the man has progressed very rapidly but due to the unending and multifarious, malpractices and manifold increase in human population; the forests are depleted and thus decreased to a vast extent. To increase the area under forest, a good and healthy forest nursery is very important for afforestation/ planting and thus getting good stock for future programme. Thus raising of nursery, of many species of trees grow very slow. If, the seeds are sown directly in the planting-out site, weed infestation may be an acute problem. The foreign/exotic species, e.g. Eucalyptus, Populus, etc. are raised first in nursery and therefore, planted/ transplanted in the field/ planting-out site afterwards. In this book," FOREST NURSERY- How to Raise and Manage" mainly two types of forest nursery have been discussed in details, viz., (a) Bare rooted seedlings nursery and (b) Containerised seedings nursery. The Present Book ," FOREST NURSERY- How to Raise and Manage", is a very sincere attempt to explore the good knowledge and vast information. This book has been written very consciously and earnestly in a very lucid language which can be understood by less educated nursery men. It is very much expected that the present book will prove very helpful in raising and managing the forest Nursery. Moreover, this is a very handy and very informative book for students, teachers, forest scientists, nursery men and all concerned with the subject.

Book Forest Nursery Manual

Download or read book Forest Nursery Manual written by Mary L. Duryea and published by Kluwer Academic Pub. This book was released on 1984 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Forest Nursery Manual - a joint effort between the Department of Forest Science, Oregon State University, and the U.S.D.A. Forest Service, Division of State and Private Forestry - presents state-of-the art information about current bareroot-nursery practices and research. The Manual emphasizes all stages of seeding production from nursery-site selection throught outplanting. Twenty-one bareroot nurseries and eight seed-processing plants were surveyed with two in-depth questionnaires and the survey results interpreted and incorporated into chapters written by leading scientists and practicing nursery managers. Over 250 people previewed the Manual at the Bareroot Nursery Technology Workshop, held at Oregon State University in October 1982. The growing size and sophistication of the bareroot-nursery industry underscores the pressing need for an up-to-date synthesis such as this."--Publisher's description.

Book Plantation Forestry in the Tropics

Download or read book Plantation Forestry in the Tropics written by Julian Evans and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2004-04-15 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Development of planted forests in tropical and subtropical countries is accelerating to satisfy the ever-growing global demand for wood products. It is expected that within 20 years half of all wood fibre in the world will be sourced from plantations, of which more than half are in the tropics and subtropics. Active community involvement in tree planting as part of rural development is now widespread and welcome. Plantation Forestry in the Tropics provides an overview that sets plantation silviculture in the wider context of development processes and their social, environmental and ecological impacts. The structure and approach of previous editions have been retained but every chapter has been comprehensively revised and updated. Two new chapters, one on clonal forestry, the other on ecological restoration, have been added.
