Book Numerical Methods for Conservation Laws

Download or read book Numerical Methods for Conservation Laws written by LEVEQUE and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These notes developed from a course on the numerical solution of conservation laws first taught at the University of Washington in the fall of 1988 and then at ETH during the following spring. The overall emphasis is on studying the mathematical tools that are essential in de veloping, analyzing, and successfully using numerical methods for nonlinear systems of conservation laws, particularly for problems involving shock waves. A reasonable un derstanding of the mathematical structure of these equations and their solutions is first required, and Part I of these notes deals with this theory. Part II deals more directly with numerical methods, again with the emphasis on general tools that are of broad use. I have stressed the underlying ideas used in various classes of methods rather than present ing the most sophisticated methods in great detail. My aim was to provide a sufficient background that students could then approach the current research literature with the necessary tools and understanding. vVithout the wonders of TeX and LaTeX, these notes would never have been put together. The professional-looking results perhaps obscure the fact that these are indeed lecture notes. Some sections have been reworked several times by now, but others are still preliminary. I can only hope that the errors are not too blatant. Moreover, the breadth and depth of coverage was limited by the length of these courses, and some parts are rather sketchy.

Book Space Time Conservation Element and Solution Element Method

Download or read book Space Time Conservation Element and Solution Element Method written by Chih-Yung Wen and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-05-10 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book introduces the fundamentals of the space–time conservation element and solution element (CESE) method, which is a novel numerical approach for solving equations of physical conservation laws. It highlights the recent progress to establish various improved CESE schemes and its engineering applications. With attractive accuracy, efficiency, and robustness, the CESE method is particularly suitable for solving time-dependent nonlinear hyperbolic systems involving dynamical evolutions of waves and discontinuities. Therefore, it has been applied to a wide spectrum of problems, e.g., aerodynamics, aeroacoustics, magnetohydrodynamics, multi-material flows, and detonations. This book contains algorithm analysis, numerical examples, as well as demonstration codes. This book is intended for graduate students and researchers who are interested in the fields such as computational fluid dynamics (CFD), mechanical engineering, and numerical computation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume convenes selected, peer-reviewed works presented at the Partial Differential Equations and Applications Colloquium in Honor of Prof. Hamidou Toure that was held at the University Ouaga 1, Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, November 5–9, 2018. Topics covered in this volume include boundary value problems for difference equations, differential forms in global analysis, functional differential equations, and stability in the context of PDEs. Studies on SIR and SIRS epidemic models, of special interest to researchers in epidemiology, are also included. This volume is dedicated to Dr. Hamidou Touré, a Research Professor at the University of Ouaga 1. Dr. Touré has made important scientific contributions in many fields of mathematical sciences. Dr. Touré got his PhD (1994) from the University of Franche-Comté of Besançon, France, and is one of the key leaders and mentor of several generations of mathematicians in French-speaking Africa. This conference was purposely held in Ouagadougou in reverence of Dr. Touré's efforts for the development of mathematics in Africa since the beginning of his career in early 1982 to the current days.

Book Efficient High Order Discretizations for Computational Fluid Dynamics

Download or read book Efficient High Order Discretizations for Computational Fluid Dynamics written by Martin Kronbichler and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-01-04 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book introduces modern high-order methods for computational fluid dynamics. As compared to low order finite volumes predominant in today's production codes, higher order discretizations significantly reduce dispersion errors, the main source of error in long-time simulations of flow at higher Reynolds numbers. A major goal of this book is to teach the basics of the discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method in terms of its finite volume and finite element ingredients. It also discusses the computational efficiency of high-order methods versus state-of-the-art low order methods in the finite difference context, given that accuracy requirements in engineering are often not overly strict. The book mainly addresses researchers and doctoral students in engineering, applied mathematics, physics and high-performance computing with a strong interest in the interdisciplinary aspects of computational fluid dynamics. It is also well-suited for practicing computational engineers who would like to gain an overview of discontinuous Galerkin methods, modern algorithmic realizations, and high-performance implementations.

Book Magnetohydrodynamic Modeling of the Solar Corona and Heliosphere

Download or read book Magnetohydrodynamic Modeling of the Solar Corona and Heliosphere written by Xueshang Feng and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-08-01 with total page 785 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book covers intimately all the topics necessary for the development of a robust magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) code within the framework of the cell-centered finite volume method (FVM) and its applications in space weather study. First, it presents a brief review of existing MHD models in studying solar corona and the heliosphere. Then it introduces the cell-centered FVM in three-dimensional computational domain. Finally, the book presents some applications of FVM to the MHD codes on spherical coordinates in various research fields of space weather, focusing on the development of the 3D Solar-InterPlanetary space-time Conservation Element and Solution Element (SIP-CESE) MHD model and its applications to space weather studies in various aspects. The book is written for senior undergraduates, graduate students, lecturers, engineers and researchers in solar-terrestrial physics, space weather theory, modeling, and prediction, computational fluid dynamics, and MHD simulations. It helps readers to fully understand and implement a robust and versatile MHD code based on the cell-centered FVM.
