Book Numerical Solution of Partial Differential Equations II Synspade 1970

Download or read book Numerical Solution of Partial Differential Equations II Synspade 1970 written by Bert Hubbard and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 660 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerical Solution of Partial Differential Equations—II: Synspade 1970 provides information pertinent to the fundamental aspects of partial differential equations. This book covers a variety of topics that range from mathematical numerical analysis to numerical methods applied to problems in mechanics, meteorology, and fluid dynamics. Organized into 18 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the methods of the Rayleigh–Ritz–Galerkin type for the approximation of boundary value problems using spline basis functions and Sobolev spaces. This text then analyzes a special approach aimed at solving elliptical equations. Other chapters consider the approximation theoretic study of special sets of approximating functions. This book discusses as well combining the alternating-direction methods with Galerkin methods to obtain highly efficient procedures for the numerical solution of second order parabolic and hyperbolic problems. The final chapter deals with the results concerning Chebyshev rational approximations of reciprocals of certain entire functions. This book is a valuable resource for mathematicians.

Book Enumath 97 Proceedings Of The Second European Conference On Numerical Mathematics And Advanced Applications

Download or read book Enumath 97 Proceedings Of The Second European Conference On Numerical Mathematics And Advanced Applications written by Hans Georg Bock and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1998-11-06 with total page 692 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ENUMATH conferences were established in 1995 in order to provide a forum for discussion on recent topics of numerical mathematics. They seek to bring together leading experts and young scientists, with special emphasis on contributions from Europe. In the second ENUMATH conference in 1997, recent results and new trends in the analysis of numerical algorithms as well as their application to challenging scientific and industrial problems were discussed. Apart from theoretical aspects, a major part of the conference was devoted to numerical methods in interdisciplinary applications. The topics covered in this proceedings include: higher order finite element methods, non-matching grids, least-squares methods for partial differential equations, multiscale analysis, boundary element method, optimization in partial differential equations, solid mechanics, microstructures, computational fluid dynamics, computational electrodynamics and semiconductors.

Book Numerical Methods for Partial Differential Equations

Download or read book Numerical Methods for Partial Differential Equations written by Seymour V. Parter and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerical Methods for Partial Differential Equations is a collection of papers dealing with techniques and practical solutions to problems concerning continuum mechanics, fluid dynamics, and plasma physics. One paper discusses the important considerations that lead to an efficient nonlinear dynamic finite element analysis using improved analysis techniques. Another paper describes the results obtained from fully discrete methods of higher order in time (order 3 and 4) for second order parabolic initial boundary value problems in which the equations have time dependent (or nonlinear) coefficients. Another paper reviews concepts of ellipticity of finite-difference approximations to general elliptic partial differential systems, with examples utilizing Cauchy-Riemann equations or Navier-Stokes equations. One paper describes fluid-dynamic computing using basic equations, boundary conditions, time dependent gas dynamics, shock waves, stream-function-vorticity methods, and an example on the formation of a spherical vortex. Another paper evaluates a specific problem arising in the study of the equilibrium of plasma confined in a machine of the Tokomak type. The collection is suitable for mathematicians, physicists, and investigators in the field of continuum mechanics, fluid dynamics, plasma physics.

Book Numerical Methods for Partial Differential Equations

Download or read book Numerical Methods for Partial Differential Equations written by G. Evans and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject of partial differential equations holds an exciting and special position in mathematics. Partial differential equations were not consciously created as a subject but emerged in the 18th century as ordinary differential equations failed to describe the physical principles being studied. The subject was originally developed by the major names of mathematics, in particular, Leonard Euler and Joseph-Louis Lagrange who studied waves on strings; Daniel Bernoulli and Euler who considered potential theory, with later developments by Adrien-Marie Legendre and Pierre-Simon Laplace; and Joseph Fourier's famous work on series expansions for the heat equation. Many of the greatest advances in modern science have been based on discovering the underlying partial differential equation for the process in question. James Clerk Maxwell, for example, put electricity and magnetism into a unified theory by establishing Maxwell's equations for electromagnetic theory, which gave solutions for prob lems in radio wave propagation, the diffraction of light and X-ray developments. Schrodinger's equation for quantum mechanical processes at the atomic level leads to experimentally verifiable results which have changed the face of atomic physics and chemistry in the 20th century. In fluid mechanics, the Navier Stokes' equations form a basis for huge number-crunching activities associated with such widely disparate topics as weather forecasting and the design of supersonic aircraft. Inevitably the study of partial differential equations is a large undertaking, and falls into several areas of mathematics.
