Book Explosive Loading of Engineering Structures

Download or read book Explosive Loading of Engineering Structures written by P.S. Bulson and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1997-07-24 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reviews the development of research into the explosive loading of structures, mainly since the beginning of the twentieth century. Major contributions in the fields of measurement, analysis and prediction are discussed. Dynamic loading from conventional high explosives is examined, as well as the effects of liquid propellant, dust, gas, vapour, and fuel/air explosions. Subjects include blast in tunnels, underground and underwater explosions, pressure measurement and blast stimulation. Explosive effects on civil buildings, civil bridges, aircraft and ships are summarized, including the estimation of residual strength. The concluding passages refer to structural safety and reliability.

Book Numerical Analysis of Projectile Impact and Deep Penetration Into Earth Media

Download or read book Numerical Analysis of Projectile Impact and Deep Penetration Into Earth Media written by Mark H. Wagner and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study was carried out to examine the utility, and some of the limitations, of using a finite-difference Lagrangian code to analyze relatively deep penetrations of projectiles into earth media. Numerical solutions were obtained for the normal impact of an 8-in. dia, 602-lb steel ogival projectile at 2000 fps into a soil/shale layered target. Two types of analyses were performed. In the first, the soil response, penetration dynamics, and projectile response were analyzed as one problem. The projectile was treated as an elastic-plastic, or deformable body, in order to determine the internal stress response. In the second analysis, the projectile was treated as a rigid body, and its penetration to a depth of 22 ft was calculated.

Book Numerical Analyses of Penetration Dynamics in Support of Investigations of Scaling Relations for Earth Penetrators

Download or read book Numerical Analyses of Penetration Dynamics in Support of Investigations of Scaling Relations for Earth Penetrators written by Mark H. Wagner and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two finite-difference WAVE-L code solutions of projectile penetration have been conducted to assess the effect of projectile sectional pressure (W/A) on penetration dynamics. The results are being used in an investigation of penetration scaling relations underway at the Waterways Experiment Station. The penetrator problems consisted of the normal impacts of rigid-body projectiles into sand targets at a velocity of 200 ft/sec. The projectiles were 6 in. in diameter with a 6-in. long, ogive nose (CRH = 1.25). Two penetrator weights were selected, 141.4 lb (Case 1) and 424.1 lb (Case 2), to give projectile sectional pressures of 5 psi for Case 1 and 15 psi for Case 2. Detailed results of the numerical solutions, including time histories of the penetration dynamics variables, force loading distributions, and field plots of the target response, are presented in the report.

Download or read book Deep Maneuver written by Jack D Kern Editor and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-10-12 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 5, Deep Maneuver: Historical Case Studies of Maneuver in Large-Scale Combat Operations, presents eleven case studies from World War II through Operation Iraqi Freedom focusing on deep maneuver in terms of time, space and purpose. Deep operations require boldness and audacity, and yet carry an element of risk of overextension - especially in light of the independent factors of geography and weather that are ever-present. As a result, the case studies address not only successes, but also failure and shortfalls that result when conducting deep operations. The final two chapters address these considerations for future Deep Maneuver.
