Book Nuclear Structure Studies in Highly Neutron Deficient 114 116Xe

Download or read book Nuclear Structure Studies in Highly Neutron Deficient 114 116Xe written by James H. DeGraaf and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lifetimes of nuclear states in $\sp{114}$Xe and $\sp{116}$Xe were measured for the first time; these nuclei represent the most neutron-deficient isotopes of xenon for which lifetimes have now been measured. The fusion-evaporation reactions $\sp{58}$Ni($\sp{60}$Ni, 2p)$\sp{116}$Xe at 223 MeV beam energy and $\sp{58}$Ni($\sp{58}$Ni, 2p)$\sp{114}$Xe at 215 MeV beam energy were used. Lifetimes were measured using the Recoil Distance Method (RDM) with the 8$\pi$ gamma-ray spectrometer at Chalk River Laboratories. The new measurements of the $B(E2;2\sp{+}\to 0\sp{+})$ strength in these nuclei, coupled with the recent measurements for heavier xenon isotopes, are well described within the framework of the O(6) symmetry limit of the Interacting Boson Approximation. The octupole nature of the negative parity side-band was also studied, and the lifetime measurements indicate a change from a $K\approx 3$ structure in heavier xenon isotopes to a $K\approx 0,\ 1$ structure in $\sp{114}$Xe.

Book Nuclear Structure Study with Neutrons

Download or read book Nuclear Structure Study with Neutrons written by J. Ero and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Conference on "Nuclear Structure Study with Neutrons" or ganized in Budapest between 31st July and 5th August. 1972. was the successor of a meeting held seven years ago in Antwerp. The close links between the two conferences were revealed not in name alone but. more importantly. in the choice of subjects discussed. As in Antwerp. the lectures and contributions to the Budapest Conference could be grouped under the following five main headings: nuclear spectroscopy; the optical model; the statistical model and intermediate structures; the mechanism of neutron capture and non-statistical effects; and, finally. miscellaneous special topics. The invited papers on the one hand summarizing recent developments and current thinking in one of the above main topics. and the other surveying the most important results of the contributed papers submitted to the Conference. were presented on the plenary sessions. Most of the contributed papers were read in full on three parallel sessions. This volume contains the complete text of all the lectures delivered in the plenary sessions and abstracts of the contributed papers. The invited talks were presented at the Conference in a rather random order because of technical reasons, it seemed. however, more sensible to change their order according to their subjects and to print them grouped under the above main headings. Further more we divided the Proceedings into two main parts, the first containing only the lectures of summarizing character. the second including the abstracts of the contributions together with the surveying talks.

Book Nuclear Structure from a Simple Perspective

Download or read book Nuclear Structure from a Simple Perspective written by R. Casten and published by Oxford University Press on Demand. This book was released on 1990 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a useful survey and assessment of the study of low-energy collective and single particle excitations of medium and heavy nuclei. An ideal resource for graduate students, the book covers both experimental and theoretical perspectives. The author's simple intuitive approach will help the reader to understand the empirical systematics as well as detailed model calculations, without recourse to complex--and often--confusing formalism.

Book Recent Developments at TRISTAN

Download or read book Recent Developments at TRISTAN written by and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The nuclear physics program at the fission product mass separator, TRISTAN, has greatly expanded, both in the types of experiments possible and in the range of nuclei available. Surface ionization, FEBIAD, high-temperature thermal, high-temperature plasma, and negative surface ionization ion sources are routinely available. Experimental facilities developed to further expand the capabilities of TRISTAN include a superconducting magnet for g-factor and Q/sub .beta./ measurements, a windowless Si(Li) detector for conversion electron measurements, and a colinear fast-beam dye laser system for hyperfine interaction studies. This combination of ion sources, experimental apparatus, and the long running time available at a reactor makes TRISTAN a powerful tool for nuclear structure studies of neutron-rich nuclei. The effect of these developments on the nuclear physics program at TRISTAN will be discussed and recent results from some of these facilities will be presented. 6 refs., 3 figs.
