Book Microscopic Calculations of Nuclear Structure and Nuclear Correlations

Download or read book Microscopic Calculations of Nuclear Structure and Nuclear Correlations written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A major goal in nuclear physics is to understand how nuclear structure comes about from the underlying interactions between nucleons. This requires modelling nuclei as collections of strongly interacting particles. Using realistic nucleon-nucleon potentials, supplemented with consistent three-nucleon potentials and two-body electroweak current operators, variational Monte Carlo methods are used to calculate nuclear ground-state properties, such as the binding energy, electromagnetic form factors, and momentum distributions. Other properties such as excited states and low-energy reactions are also calculable with these methods.

Book Nuclear Structure Theory

Download or read book Nuclear Structure Theory written by J. M. Irvine and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2017-01-31 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nuclear Structure Theory provides a guide to nuclear structure theory. The book is comprised of 23 chapters that are organized into four parts; each part covers an aspect of nuclear structure theory. In the first part, the text discusses the experimentally observed phenomena, which nuclear structure theories need to look into and detail the information that supports those theories. The second part of the book deals with the phenomenological nucleon-nucleon potentials derived from phase shift analysis of nucleon-nucleon scattering. Part III talks about the phenomenological parameters used to describe their various nuclear models. The last part of the book deals with the technology of nuclear structure theory. The book will be of great use to nuclear physicists who wish to gain a better understanding of the nuclear structure theory.

Book Nuclear Structure Physics

Download or read book Nuclear Structure Physics written by Amritanshu Shukla and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-10-21 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nuclear structure Physics connects to some of our fundamental questions about the creation of universe and its basic constituents. At the same time, precise knowledge on the subject has lead to develop many important tools of human kind such as proton therapy, radioactive dating etc. This book contains chapters on some of the crucial and trending research topics in nuclear structure, including the nuclei lying on the extremes of spin, isospin and mass. A better theoretical understanding of these topics is important beyond the confines of the nuclear structure community. Additionally, the book will showcase the applicability and success of the different nuclear effective interaction parameters near the drip line, where hints for level reordering have already been seen, and where one can test the isospin-dependence of the interaction. The book offers comprehensive coverage of the most essential topics, including: • Nuclear Structure of Nuclei at or Near Drip-Lines • Synthesis challenges and properties of Superheavy nuclei • Nuclear Structure and Nuclear models - Ab-initio calculations, cluster models, Shell-model/DSM, RMF, Skyrme • Shell Closure, Magicity and other novel features of nuclei at extremes • Structure of Toroidal, Bubble Nuclei, halo and other exotic nuclei These topics are not only very interesting from theoretical nuclear physics perspective but are also quite complimentary for ongoing nuclear physics experimental program worldwide. It is hoped that the book chapters written by experienced and well known researchers/experts will be helpful for the master students, graduate students and researchers and serve as a standard & uptodate research reference book on the topics covered.

Download or read book Momentum Distributions written by Richard N. Silver and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents the proceedings of the Workshop on Momentum Distributions held on October 24 to 26, 1988 at Argonne National Laboratory. This workshop was motivated by the enormous progress within the past few years in both experimental and theoretical studies of momentum distributions, by the growing recognition of the importance of momentum distributions to the characterization of quantum many-body systems, and especially by the realization that momentum distribution studies have much in common across the entire range of modern physics. Accordingly, the workshop was unique in that it brought together researchers in nuclear physics, electronic systems, quantum fluids and solids, and particle physics to address the common elements of momentum distribution studies. The topics dis cussed in the workshop spanned more than ten orders of magnitude range in charac teristic energy scales. The workshop included an extraordinary variety of interactions from Coulombic to hard core repulsive, from non-relativistic to extreme relativistic.

Book The Unitary Model Operator Approach to Structure in the 2s 1d Shell

Download or read book The Unitary Model Operator Approach to Structure in the 2s 1d Shell written by Richard Arthur Nisley and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Effective two-body interactions were obtained from realistic nucleon-nucleon potentials and applications made in calculations of ground state properties of even-even N=Z light nuclei. The admixture of high momentum states into the nuclear wavefunction caused by the strong, short-range repulsion of the two-nucleon force was taken into account by making a unitary substitution of correlated basis functions. The admixture of high momentum components into the nuclear wavefunction caused by the tensor force was handled by renormalizing the effective interaction to include second order effects. Effective interactions were developed for three phenomenological potentials with different core structures. The Bressel potential with a finite soft core was investigated briefly and found inadequate for use in structure calculations. The hard core Yale potential was used in studying 160 in detail. And the Reid potential with a Yukawa-type soft core was used extensively in all the nuclei considered. The effective interactions for each realistic potential was investigated for dependence on the 3S1 healing distance. Structure calculations included determination of ground state binding energies, radii, energy levels for the single particle states and deformations for the nuclei 160, 20Ne, 24Mg, 28Si, 32S, and 40Ca. It was found that the binding was strongly dependent on the choice of the 3S1 healing distance for both the Yale and Reid effective two-body interactions. By varying this single parameter, quantitative agreement for the binding with the experimental values could be achieved. The deformations found were somewhat smaller than empirically expected but were qualitatively correct.

Book Computational Nuclear Physics 2

Download or read book Computational Nuclear Physics 2 written by K. Langanke and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computation is essential to our modern understanding of nuclear systems. Although simple analytical models might guide our intuition, the complex ity of the nuclear many-body problem and the ever-increasing precision of experimental results require large-scale numerical studies for a quantitative understanding. Despite their importance, many nuclear physics computations remain something of a black art. A practicing nuclear physicist might be familiar with one or another type of computation, but there is no way to systemati cally acquire broad experience. Although computational methods and results are often presented in the literature, it is often difficult to obtain the working codes. More often than not, particular numerical expertise resides in one or a few individuals, who must be contacted informally to generate results; this option becomes unavailable when these individuals leave the field. And while the teaching of modern nuclear physics can benefit enormously from realistic computer simulations, there has been no source for much of the important material. The present volume, the second of two, is an experiment aimed at address ing some of these problems. We have asked recognized experts in various aspects of computational nuclear physics to codify their expertise in indi vidual chapters. Each chapter takes the form of a brief description of the relevant physics (with appropriate references to the literature), followed by a discussion of the numerical methods used and their embodiment in a FOR TRAN code. The chapters also contain sample input and test runs, as well as suggestions for further exploration.

Book The Structure of the Nucleon

Download or read book The Structure of the Nucleon written by Anthony W. Thomas and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-11-17 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the only stable baryon, the nucleon is of crucial importance in particle physics. Since the nucleon is a building block for all atomic nuclei, there is a need to analyse the its structure in order to fully understand the essential properties of all atomic nuclei. After more than forty years of research on the nucleon, both the experimental and theoretical situations have matured to a point where a synthesis of the results becomes indispensable. Here, A.W. Thomas and W. Weise present a unique report on the extensive empirical studies, theoretical foundations and the different models of the nucleon. The appendices provide an extensive summary of formulae needed in practical calculations. From the contents: electromagnetic structure of the nucleon, weak probes of nucleon structure, deep inelastic lepton scattering on the nucleon; elements of QCD, aspects of non-perturbative QCD, Chiral Symmetry and nucleon structure, models of the nucleon

Book Nuclear Structure Study with Neutrons

Download or read book Nuclear Structure Study with Neutrons written by J. Ero and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Conference on "Nuclear Structure Study with Neutrons" or ganized in Budapest between 31st July and 5th August. 1972. was the successor of a meeting held seven years ago in Antwerp. The close links between the two conferences were revealed not in name alone but. more importantly. in the choice of subjects discussed. As in Antwerp. the lectures and contributions to the Budapest Conference could be grouped under the following five main headings: nuclear spectroscopy; the optical model; the statistical model and intermediate structures; the mechanism of neutron capture and non-statistical effects; and, finally. miscellaneous special topics. The invited papers on the one hand summarizing recent developments and current thinking in one of the above main topics. and the other surveying the most important results of the contributed papers submitted to the Conference. were presented on the plenary sessions. Most of the contributed papers were read in full on three parallel sessions. This volume contains the complete text of all the lectures delivered in the plenary sessions and abstracts of the contributed papers. The invited talks were presented at the Conference in a rather random order because of technical reasons, it seemed. however, more sensible to change their order according to their subjects and to print them grouped under the above main headings. Further more we divided the Proceedings into two main parts, the first containing only the lectures of summarizing character. the second including the abstracts of the contributions together with the surveying talks.
