Book NUCFRG2 An Evaluation of the Semiempirical Nuclear Fragmentation Database

Download or read book NUCFRG2 An Evaluation of the Semiempirical Nuclear Fragmentation Database written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A semiempirical abrasion-ablation model has been successful in generating a large nuclear database for the study of high charge and energy (HZE) ion beams, radiation physics, and galactic cosmic ray shielding. The cross sections that are generated are compared with measured HZE fragmentation data from various experimental groups. A research program for improvement of the database generator is also discussed.

Book Introduction to Relativistic Heavy Ion Physics

Download or read book Introduction to Relativistic Heavy Ion Physics written by Jerzy Bartke and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2009 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book attempts to cover the fascinating field of physics of relativistic heavy ions, mainly from the experimentalist's point of view. After the introductory chapter on quantum chromodynamics, basic properties of atomic nuclei, sources of relativistic nuclei, and typical detector set-ups are described in three subsequent chapters. Experimental facts on collisions of relativistic heavy ions are systematically presented in 15 consecutive chapters, starting from the simplest features like cross sections, multiplicities, and spectra of secondary particles and going to more involved characteristics like correlations, various relatively rare processes, and newly discovered features: collective flow, high pT suppression and jet quenching. Some entirely new topics are included, such as the difference between neutron and proton radii in nuclei, heavy hypernuclei, and electromagnetic effects on secondary particle spectra.Phenomenological approaches and related simple models are discussed in parallel with the presentation of experimental data. Near the end of the book, recent ideas about the new state of matter created in collisions of ultrarelativistic nuclei are discussed. In the final chapter, some predictions are given for nuclear collisions in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), now in construction at the site of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), Geneva. Finally, the appendix gives us basic notions of relativistic kinematics, and lists the main international conferences related to this field. A concise reference book on physics of relativistic heavy ions, it shows the present status of this field.

This book was released on 2018-07-08 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Methods for calculating cross sections for the breakup of high-energy heavy ions by the combined nuclear and coulomb fields of the interacting nuclei are presented. The nuclear breakup contributions are estimated with an abrasion-ablation model of heavy ion fragmentation that includes an energy-dependent, mean free path. The electromagnetic dissociation contributions arising from the interacting coulomb fields are estimated by using Weizsacker-Williams theory extended to include electric dipole and electric quadrupole contributions. The complete computer code that implements the model is included as an appendix. Extensive comparisons of cross section predictions with available experimental data are made. Book Nuclear Fragmentation Cross Section Modeling for Space Radiation Applications

Download or read book Nuclear Fragmentation Cross Section Modeling for Space Radiation Applications written by Wouter C. de Wet and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most significant challenges to overcome on the journey to Mars is understanding the biological risk associated with the space radiation environment. Radiation transport codes are one of the tools necessary to quantify this risk. Due to the nature of the space radiation environment, it is of great importance that these transport codes are able to describe the breakup of heavy ions into smaller fragments--light ions in particular. For this, event generators within radiation transport codes rely on nuclear fragmentation codes to predict the products of high energy nuclear collisions. This manuscript documents the development of a nuclear fragmentation code: the Relativistic Abrasion-Ablation and Deexcitation Fragmentation Model (RAADFRG). RAADFRG is the product of a collaboration between the University of Tennessee and NASA's Langley Research Center (LaRC), and is being developed for space radiation applications. Currently, total isotopic yield is of primary concern; however, future versions of the model must predict double differential isotopic yields. The collision model is a framework of smaller physics packages, each meant to describe a specific physical phenomenon within the abrasion-ablation heavy ion collision theory. The coalescence model, along with the collision framework architecture and development, are my primary original contributions.
