Book Airblast and Craters from Rows of Two to Twenty five Buried He Charges

Download or read book Airblast and Craters from Rows of Two to Twenty five Buried He Charges written by Luke J. Vortman and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Airblast was measured perpendicular to and off the ends of row-charge explosions and compared with airblast from single charges. It was found that Prow was approx. n(B) Psingle, where P is peak overpressure and n the number of charges. B was different for each blast parameter examined: ground-shock-induced peak overpressure, peak overpressure from venting gas, peak negative pressure, and positive and negative impulse. Values of P increased as spacing decreased. Airblast was always greater perpendicular to the row than off the end, by an amount which increased as the number of charges increased.

This book was released on 1969 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Airbiast was measured perpendicular to and off the ends of row-charge explosions and compared with airblast from single charges. It was found that P(sub row) approx. equal n(sup Beta) P(sub single), where p is peak overpressure and n the number of charges. Beta was different for each blast parameter examined: ground-shock-induced peak overpressure, peak overpressure from venting gas, peak negative pressure, and positive and negative impulse. Values of Beta increased as spacing decreased. Airblast was always greater perpendicular to the row than off the end, by an amount which increased as the number of charges increased.

Book Crater Formed by Detonating a Row of Charges Beneath a Ridge

Download or read book Crater Formed by Detonating a Row of Charges Beneath a Ridge written by Luke J. Vortman and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A row of 64-pound charges was placed 7 feet below the top of a nearly four-foot high ridge formed by the arc of a circle with its center at the row axis. The row of charges was 5 feet below the original ground surface. The volume of the resulting crater was 86 percent and 60 percent greater than craters from rows 5 feet and 7 feet deep, respectively, below level terrain. Even if one disregards the portion of the ridge above the level-terrain plane (providing an effective burial depth of 5 feet), directed blasting still provides an increase of 32 percent in volume excavated over a row buried 5 feet below level terrain. More material is ejected laterally, hence less falls back into the crater than if the ground had been level. Vertical displacement of the surface over the charges is comparable during the first 12 milliseconds, but thereafter is greater as a result of the interaction of charges in the row.

Book Craters from Two Charges Buried in Vertical Array

Download or read book Craters from Two Charges Buried in Vertical Array written by Luke J. Vortman and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A series of experiments was performed to study the crater dimensions produced by two 64-pound HE charges fired in a vertical configuration at varying depths and with varying distances between the charges. Firings were made both simultaneously and with time delays. For simultaneous firings, the dimensions are usually between those of a single charge equivalent in weight to the two charges and those of a single charge equivalent in weight to one of the charges. For long-time-delay firings (5.5 seconds, with the top charge fired first), crater depths are greater than for a single charge equivalent in weight to the two charges for one spacing, while other dimensions fall in the range mentioned above. This increased depth is potentially the most valuable characteristic of the dual-charge technique. Short-time-delay firings (1 to 10 msec) produced depths about the same as and radii and volumes smaller than either simultaneous or long-delay shots.
