Book Toxicity Testing in the 21st Century

Download or read book Toxicity Testing in the 21st Century written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2007-10-05 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in molecular biology and toxicology are paving the way for major improvements in the evaluation of the hazards posed by the large number of chemicals found at low levels in the environment. The National Research Council was asked by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to review the state of the science and create a far-reaching vision for the future of toxicity testing. The book finds that developing, improving, and validating new laboratory tools based on recent scientific advances could significantly improve our ability to understand the hazards and risks posed by chemicals. This new knowledge would lead to much more informed environmental regulations and dramatically reduce the need for animal testing because the new tests would be based on human cells and cell components. Substantial scientific efforts and resources will be required to leverage these new technologies to realize the vision, but the result will be a more efficient, informative and less costly system for assessing the hazards posed by industrial chemicals and pesticides.

Book Toxicological Profile for Cyanide Update

Download or read book Toxicological Profile for Cyanide Update written by Jessilyn Taylor and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2010-08 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cyanide has been found in many sites targeted for long-term fed. cleanup activities. Many of the cyanides in soil and water come from industrial processes. Contents: (1) The examination, summary, and interpretation of available toxicologic info. and epidemiologic evaluations on cyanide to ascertain the levels of significant human exposure for the substance and the associated health effects; (2) A determination of whether adequate info. on the health effects of cyanide is available to determine levels of exposure that present a significant risk to human health of chronic health effects; and (3) Identification of toxicologic testing needed to identify the types or levels of exposure that may present significant risk of adverse health effects in humans. Illus.

Book Advances in Computational Toxicology

Download or read book Advances in Computational Toxicology written by Huixiao Hong and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-05-21 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive review of both traditional and cutting-edge methodologies that are currently used in computational toxicology and specifically features its application in regulatory decision making. The authors from various government agencies such as FDA, NCATS and NIEHS industry, and academic institutes share their real-world experience and discuss most current practices in computational toxicology and potential applications in regulatory science. Among the topics covered are molecular modeling and molecular dynamics simulations, machine learning methods for toxicity analysis, network-based approaches for the assessment of drug toxicity and toxicogenomic analyses. Offering a valuable reference guide to computational toxicology and potential applications in regulatory science, this book will appeal to chemists, toxicologists, drug discovery and development researchers as well as to regulatory scientists, government reviewers and graduate students interested in this field.

Book The National Toxicology Program s Chemical Database

Download or read book The National Toxicology Program s Chemical Database written by Lawrence H. Keith and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1991-12-31 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This database provides a vast amount of information about potentially toxic chemicals to regulatory and research agencies, consultants, academics, and libraries. The National Toxicology Program's Chemical Database consists of eight volumes containing 50 fields that present detailed information on 2,270 different chemicals. The data is obtained from the literature or experimentally determined. Each compound is listed in every volume even when there is no information available for it in some volumes. Information in the NTP database was gathered and updated as compounds were used throughout a 12 year period from 1979 to 1991. Throughout the eight volumes, the primary chemical name and the Chemical Abstracts Service Registry Number (CAS No.) remain constant and all 2,270 chemicals are listed alphabetically in each volume. The NTP database can be sold as a set or individually. Each volume consists of one 3-1/2" and two 5-1/4" diskettes , in addition to a 64 page manual that describes how to use the software. Diskettes will run on IBM® or IBM-compatible equipment with DOS 2.0 and higher, 640K internal memory (RAM), and a hard drive with at least 2-17MB of available disk space. Use the eight volumes together to get the full benefit of the NTP Chemical Repository Database, or select only those volumes that contain the information you need and use them as stand-alone databases. Each volume consists of one 3-1/2" and two 5-1/4" diskettes, that will run on IBM or IBM-compatible hardware!

Book Long Term Study Reports and Abstracts

Download or read book Long Term Study Reports and Abstracts written by National Toxicology Program (U.S.) and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The National Toxicology Program (NTP) is an interagency program within the Public Health Service (PHS) of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and is headquartered at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences of the National Institutes of Health (NIEHS/NIH). Three agencies contribute resources to the program: NIEHS/NIH, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (NIOSH/CDC), and the National Center for Toxicological Research of the Food and Drug Administration (NCTR/FDA). Established in 1978, the NTP is charged with coordinating toxicological testing activities, strengthening the science base in toxicology, developing and validating improved testing methods, and providing information about potentially toxic substances to health regulatory and research agencies, scientific and medical communities, and the public. The Technical Report series began in 1976 with carcinogenesis studies conducted by the National Cancer Institute. In 1981, this bioassay program was transferred to the NTP. A report number was not assigned to the first two bioassay reports (January and March, 1976) because they were published prior to the initiation of the numbering system. Numbering began in on the February, 1976 report. The title change began in 1980 - no. 202-205 were issued in 1980 with the earlier title. The studies described in the Technical Report series are designed and conducted to characterize and evaluate the toxicologic potential, including carcinogenic activity, of selected substances in laboratory animals (usually two species, rats and mice). Substances selected for NTP toxicity and carcinogenicity studies are chosen primarily on the basis of human exposure, level of production, and chemical structure. The interpretive conclusions presented in NTP Technical Reports are based only on the results of these NTP studies. Extrapolation of these results to other species, including characterization of hazards and risks to humans, requires analyses beyond the intent of these reports.
