Book Interventional Cardiology

Download or read book Interventional Cardiology written by Debabrata Mukherjee and published by OUP USA. This book was released on 2011-01-28 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interventional cardiology refers to catheter-based treatment of cardiovascular diseases. This dynamic new field is one of the fastest growing fields in medicine. In the United States, more than a million percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) are performed annually; moreover, the number of procedures performed will likely continue to increase. The field of interventional cardiology has evolved dramatically over the past decade with the availability of embolic protection devices, drug eluting stents, mechanical thrombectomy catheters, etc. Interventional cardiology represents a rapidly moving target for the cardiologist who seeks to integrate recent advances into their clinical practice. The advent of newer technology presents both an opportunity as well as numerous challenges for the cardiologist to treat patients optimally. Interventional Cardiology: Essential Clinicians Guide (Oxford American Cardiology Library) aims to provide clinicians with concise, easily accessible guidance on the pre-procedural, procedural and post procedural aspects of PCI in general situations and in various specific clinical settings. The volume features evidence-based discussion on patient selection, vascular access, general principles of PCI, and various specific settings and optimal post procedure management of these patients. This handbook focuses on tailoring stent type to the individual patient, taking into account specific risk factors and comorbidities, appropriate use of embolic protection and thrombectomy catheters. Highly practical in format, content and style, Interventional Cardiology: Essential Clinician's Guide serves as a succinct, yet comprehensive, easily accessible point-of-care reference for busy practitioners. Useful tools, such as treatment algorithms, charts, tables and illustrations assist in making this volume a practical reference tool.

Download or read book Vector Borne Diseases written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2008-03-18 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vector-borne infectious diseases, such as malaria, dengue fever, yellow fever, and plague, cause a significant fraction of the global infectious disease burden; indeed, nearly half of the world's population is infected with at least one type of vector-borne pathogen (CIESIN, 2007; WHO, 2004a). Vector-borne plant and animal diseases, including several newly recognized pathogens, reduce agricultural productivity and disrupt ecosystems throughout the world. These diseases profoundly restrict socioeconomic status and development in countries with the highest rates of infection, many of which are located in the tropics and subtropics. Although this workshop summary provides an account of the individual presentations, it also reflects an important aspect of the Forum philosophy. The workshop functions as a dialogue among representatives from different sectors and allows them to present their beliefs about which areas may merit further attention. These proceedings summarize only the statements of participants in the workshop and are not intended to be an exhaustive exploration of the subject matter or a representation of consensus evaluation. Vector-Borne Diseases : Understanding the Environmental, Human Health, and Ecological Connections, Workshop Summary (Forum on Microbial Threats) summarizes this workshop.

Book Next Generation Earth System Prediction

Download or read book Next Generation Earth System Prediction written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2016-08-22 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the nation's economic activities, security concerns, and stewardship of natural resources become increasingly complex and globally interrelated, they become ever more sensitive to adverse impacts from weather, climate, and other natural phenomena. For several decades, forecasts with lead times of a few days for weather and other environmental phenomena have yielded valuable information to improve decision-making across all sectors of society. Developing the capability to forecast environmental conditions and disruptive events several weeks and months in advance could dramatically increase the value and benefit of environmental predictions, saving lives, protecting property, increasing economic vitality, protecting the environment, and informing policy choices. Over the past decade, the ability to forecast weather and climate conditions on subseasonal to seasonal (S2S) timescales, i.e., two to fifty-two weeks in advance, has improved substantially. Although significant progress has been made, much work remains to make S2S predictions skillful enough, as well as optimally tailored and communicated, to enable widespread use. Next Generation Earth System Predictions presents a ten-year U.S. research agenda that increases the nation's S2S research and modeling capability, advances S2S forecasting, and aids in decision making at medium and extended lead times.

Download or read book Unequal Treatment written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2009-02-06 with total page 781 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Racial and ethnic disparities in health care are known to reflect access to care and other issues that arise from differing socioeconomic conditions. There is, however, increasing evidence that even after such differences are accounted for, race and ethnicity remain significant predictors of the quality of health care received. In Unequal Treatment, a panel of experts documents this evidence and explores how persons of color experience the health care environment. The book examines how disparities in treatment may arise in health care systems and looks at aspects of the clinical encounter that may contribute to such disparities. Patients' and providers' attitudes, expectations, and behavior are analyzed. How to intervene? Unequal Treatment offers recommendations for improvements in medical care financing, allocation of care, availability of language translation, community-based care, and other arenas. The committee highlights the potential of cross-cultural education to improve provider-patient communication and offers a detailed look at how to integrate cross-cultural learning within the health professions. The book concludes with recommendations for data collection and research initiatives. Unequal Treatment will be vitally important to health care policymakers, administrators, providers, educators, and students as well as advocates for people of color.

Book Emergency Care for Children

    Book Details:
  • Author : Institute of Medicine
  • Publisher : National Academies Press
  • Release : 2007-05-08
  • ISBN : 0309133769
  • Pages : 360 pages

Download or read book Emergency Care for Children written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2007-05-08 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Children represent a special challenge for emergency care providers, because they have unique medical needs in comparison to adults. For decades, policy makers and providers have recognized the special needs of children, but the system has been slow to develop an adequate response to their needs. This is in part due to inadequacies within the broader emergency care system. Emergency Care for Children examines the challenges associated with the provision of emergency services to children and families and evaluates progress since the publication of the Institute of Medicine report Emergency Medical Services for Children (1993), the first comprehensive look at pediatric emergency care in the United States. This new book offers an analysis of: • The role of pediatric emergency services as an integrated component of the overall health system. • System-wide pediatric emergency care planning, preparedness, coordination, and funding. • Pediatric training in professional education. • Research in pediatric emergency care. Emergency Care for Children is one of three books in the Future of Emergency Care series. This book will be of particular interest to emergency health care providers, professional organizations, and policy makers looking to address the pediatric deficiencies within their emergency care systems.

Book North American Industry Classification System NAICS 2022

Download or read book North American Industry Classification System NAICS 2022 written by and published by . This book was released on 2024-06 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a FULL-size (8.5" x 11") current edition of The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) which represents a continuing cooperative effort among Statistics Canada, Mexico's Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía (INEGI), and the Economic Classification Policy Committee (ECPC) of the United States, acting on behalf of the Office of Management and Budget, to create and maintain a common industry classification system. This jointly updated the system of classification of economic activities that makes the industrial statistics produced in the three countries comparable. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) revision for 2022 went into effect for reference year 2022 in Canada and the United States, and 2023 in Mexico. NAICS was originally developed to provide a consistent framework for the collection, analysis, and dissemination of industrial statistics used by government policy analysts, by academics and researchers, by the business community, and by the public. Revisions for 2022 were made to account for our rapidly changing economies. Classifications serve as a lens through which to view the data they classify. NAICS was developed in accordance with a single principle of aggregation, the principle that producing units that use similar production processes should be grouped together. Though NAICS differs from other industry classification systems, the three countries continue to strive to create industries that do not cross two digit Division boundaries of the United Nations' International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities (ISIC). The actual classification reveals only the tip of the work carried out by dedicated staff from INEGI, Statistics Canada, and U.S. statistical agencies. It is through their efforts, painstaking analysis, and spirit of accommodation that NAICS serves as a harmonized international classification of economic activities in North America.
