Book Chemical Ionization Mass Spectrometry

Download or read book Chemical Ionization Mass Spectrometry written by Alex. G. Harrison and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2018-05-11 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The only comprehensive guide to CIMS applications in structural elucidation and analytical studies Chemical Ionization Mass Spectrometry, 2nd Edition, provides a comprehensive, up-to-date review of CIMS applications in structural elucidation and quantitative analytical studies. For the benefit of readers without a background in gaseous ion chemistry, a thorough review is presented in Chapter 2. Other chapters discuss such topics as reagent ion systems within the context of the thermochemistry and kinetics of the ionization process, including reactions and the type of information obtained; isotopic exchange reactions; stereochemical effects in chemical ionization; and reactive ion/molecule collisions in quadrupole cells. Chemical ionization mass spectra of 13 classes of compounds are discussed in detail to illustrate the influence of different functional groups on the spectra observed. Chemical Ionization Mass Spectrometry, 2nd Edition will be a valuable reference for anyone interested in mass spectrometry and gaseous ion chemistry in general.

Book Composition Geochemistry and Conversion of Oil Shales

Download or read book Composition Geochemistry and Conversion of Oil Shales written by C.E. Snape and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 499 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Oil shales are broadly dermed as petroleum source rocks containing sufficiently high contents of organic matter (above ca 10-15 wt. %) to make utilisation a possibility. Like coal, the world's reserves of oil shales are vast being many times larger than those proven for crude oil. Indeed, some of the largest deposits occur in the USA and Europe where Estonia and Turkey have large reserves. The first recorded interest in oil shale retorting was an English patent in 1694 (Eele, Hancock and Porter, No. 330) which refers to distilling noyle from some kind of stone". The oil shale retorting industry dates back to the middle of the last century, notably Scotland, Estonia, France and Sweden in Europe. Indeed, my own Department at the University of Strathclyde has a historical link with James "Paraffin" Young, the founder of the Scottish oil shale industry who endowed a chair in Applied Chemistry. The growth of the oil industry saw the demise of the oil shale industry in most countries with the notable exception of Estonia, where kukersite has continued to be used for power generation and retorting. However, oil shale utilisation has attracted renewed attention since the early 1970s as a source of transport fuels and chemical feedstocks due to the the long term uncertainties over crude oil supplies.

Book Fossil Fuel Biomarkers

Download or read book Fossil Fuel Biomarkers written by R. P. Philp and published by Elsevier Publishing Company. This book was released on 1985 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first collection of biomarker spectra to be published. It comprises two parts: the first discusses the origins of various classes of biomarkers and how they can be applied to petroleum exploration problems. The second and main part of the book contains almost 400 biomarker mass spectra, collected from a wide range of scientific journals. Each spectrum is accompanied by a summary of data, including acquisition conditions, biomarker origin, and authenticity of the data.

Book Geochemistry of Sulfur in Fossil Fuels

Download or read book Geochemistry of Sulfur in Fossil Fuels written by Wilson L. Orr and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 728 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here is the first volume to examine sulfur in fossil fuels from a geochemical perspective. It begins with six introductory chapters that present an overview of the material, historical background, and summaries of the present state of knowledge. Subsequent chapters cover: case studies of specific sedimentary environments; characterization of sulfur in selected coals and petroleums by various methods and techniques; and the major advances in understanding geochemistry at the molecular level. This important volume fills a significant gap in the technical literature and updates the understanding of the chemical processes in geological environments giving rise to sulfur fossil fuels.
