Download or read book Precoding Techniques for Digital Communication Systems written by C.-C. Kuo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-09-18 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past two decades, many communication techniques have been developed to achieve various goals such as higher data rate, more robust link quality, andmoreusercapacityinmorerigorouschannelconditions.Themost well known are, for instance, CDMA, OFDM, MIMO, multiuser OFDM, and UWB systems. All these systems havetheir ownunique superioritywhile they also induce other drawbacks that limit the system performance. Conventional way to overcome the drawback is to impose most of the computational e?ort in the receiver side and let the transmitter design much simpler than receiver. The fact is that, however, by leveraging reasonable computational e?ort to the transmitter, the receiver design can be greatly simpli?ed. For instance, multiaccess interference (MAI) has long been considered to limit the perf- mance of multiuser systems. Popular solutions to mitigate MAI issue include multiuser detection (MUD) or sophisticated signal processing for interference cancellation such as PIC or SIC. However, those solutions impose great b- den in the receiver. In this case, precoding o?er good solutions to achieve simple transceiver designs as we will mention later in this book. This book is intended to provide a comprehensive review of precoding techniques for digital communications systems from a signal processing p- spective. The variety of selected precoding techniques and their applications makes this book quite di?erent from other texts about precoding techniques in digital communication engineering.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) techniques are the fundamental technology in several standardizations, including long-term evolution (LTE) and LTE-advanced. For instance, MIMO spatial multiplexing (MIMO-SM) is used to increase the system capacity without requiring additional time/frequency resources. However, the performance of the MIMO-SM depends on the employed detection algorithm. Also, multi-user MIMO precoding at the transmitter part is used to support the simultaneous transmission to several users. In this book, we review the basics of MIMO detection. Then, we introduce two detection algorithms, namely, adaptive parallel QRDM algorithm (APQRDM) that increases the detection throughput and adaptive iterative QRD-M algorithm (AIQRDM) that reduces the hardware requirements. Besides, these two algorithms adaptively reduce the computational complexity, while achieving the optimum diversity. Furthermore, in addition to introducing the state of the art of the precoding techniques, we propose a fixed complexity sphere encoder (FSE) that requires a fraction of the computations performed by the QRDM encoder, while achieving a tremendous increase in the precoding throughput.

Book Multiuser Linear Precoding for the Downlink of MIMO OFDM Systems

Download or read book Multiuser Linear Precoding for the Downlink of MIMO OFDM Systems written by Hassen Karaa and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multi-tone transmission using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing and multiple antennas has the potential of drastically improving the capacity and the performance of next generation multiuser communications. However, such systems are inherently complex and require a cumbersome computational load. This thesis investigates the efficient extension of linear processing techniques to multi-carrier transmission from a base station to multiple users using multiple antennas at the transmitter and/or the receiver. Previous work in this area focused on the single carrier case. We propose a technique based on interpolation across frequencies to reduce the computational load involved in deriving the linear filters for each frequency. We also consider the problem of user selection to carriers and develop a sum mean squared error based, computationally efficient algorithm to select the best set of users onto each frequency in order to optimize the system's performance.

Book excerpt: The fifth generation of mobile networks (5G) aims to meet the high demand for mobile data that will exist from the year 2021, product of the development of new technologies, applications and services. Its main requirements are to achieve high data transmission rates, massive user capacity, low power consumption, high communication reliability and low latency. We propose ZF Precoding and ZF-DPC precoders' scheme and algorithms that employ multiple transmit processing and ordering strategies along with a selection scheme to mitigate interference in MUMIMO systems. Both of the two proposed precoding algorithms can achieve a comparable sum-rate performance as, substantial bit error rate (BER) performance gains, and a simplified receiver structure, while requiring a much lower complexity.
