Book excerpt: This primer starts from essential macroeconomics and develops the central topics of modern macroeconomic theory in a simple and rigorous manner. Topics covered include rational expectations, intertemporal dynamic models, exogenous and endogenous growth, nonclearing markets and imperfect competition, uncertainty, and money. The book also covers real business cycles and dynamic stochastic general equilibrium models, integrating growth and fluctuations, sticky wages and prices, consumption and investment, and unemployment.

Book A Note on a Generalized Constant Elasticity of Substitution gces Production Function

Download or read book A Note on a Generalized Constant Elasticity of Substitution gces Production Function written by and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, a number of generalizations of the classic CES production function (as developed by Arrow, Chenery, Minhas and Solow) have appeared. Uzawa, Dhrymes and Kurz, MacFadden, and Gorman have all treated some aspect of a specific generalization. The generalization which Dhrymes and Kurz employ is of particular interest, for this function encompasses all production functions which are strictly additive or strictly multiplicative; hence the Cobb-Douglas and CES functions are special cases of the function. However, none of these authors have analyzed the constraints on the GCES production function in terms of traditional micro theory, nor have the returns to scale been explicitly delineated for the various parameter values of the GCES function. These matters are considered here.

Book On the Substitution of Private and Public Capital in Production

Download or read book On the Substitution of Private and Public Capital in Production written by Zidong An and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2019-11-01 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most macroeconomic models assume that aggregate output is generated by a specification for the production function with total physical capital as a key input. Implicitly this assumes that private and public capital stocks are perfect substitutes. In this paper we test this assumption by estimating a nested-CES production function whereas the two types of capital are considered separately along with labor as inputs. The estimation is based on our newly developed dataset on public and private capital stocks for 151 countries over a period of 1960-2014 consistent with Penn World Table version 9. We find evidence against perfect substitutability between public and private capital, especially for emerging and LIDCs, with the point estimate of the elasticity of substitution estimated closely around 3.

Book Production Economics An Empirical Approach

Download or read book Production Economics An Empirical Approach written by Charles Britt Moss and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2022-02-25 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Production economics is that branch of microeconomics that examines producer decisions. This book focuses on the empirical estimation of these relationships using primal, dual, and differential specifications. The primal specification models production decisions based on the production function — estimation of the input/output relationship and the derivation of optimization behavior from this technical relationship. The dual approach estimates production decisions using economic information such as input and output prices. The textbook then develops the linkages between these relationships. The differential specification is an alternative approach derived from changes in the first-order conditions from cost minimizing behavior. In each case, the theoretical development is followed by different empirical specifications that can be used to estimate the producer's choice.

Book Homogeneous and Nonhomogeneous Production Functions Theory and Applications

Download or read book Homogeneous and Nonhomogeneous Production Functions Theory and Applications written by Erkin Bairam and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study reveiws and applies old and new production functions. The theoretical part of the book critically examines both homogenous and non-homogenous production function literature. The applied part uses some of these production functions to estimate appropriate functions for different developed and underdeveloped countries, as well as for different industrial sectors.

Book Geometry of Submanifolds

Download or read book Geometry of Submanifolds written by Bang-Yen Chen and published by Courier Dover Publications. This book was released on 2019-06-12 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first two chapters of this frequently cited reference provide background material in Riemannian geometry and the theory of submanifolds. Subsequent chapters explore minimal submanifolds, submanifolds with parallel mean curvature vector, conformally flat manifolds, and umbilical manifolds. The final chapter discusses geometric inequalities of submanifolds, results in Morse theory and their applications, and total mean curvature of a submanifold. Suitable for graduate students and mathematicians in the area of classical and modern differential geometries, the treatment is largely self-contained. Problems sets conclude each chapter, and an extensive bibliography provides background for students wishing to conduct further research in this area. This new edition includes the author's corrections.

Book Consumer Price Index Manual

Download or read book Consumer Price Index Manual written by International Labour Office and published by International Labour Organization. This book was released on 2004-08-25 with total page 578 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The consumer price index (CPI) measures the rate at which prices of consumer goods and services change over time. It is used as a key indicator of economic performance, as well as in the setting of monetary and socio-economic policy such as indexation of wages and social security benefits, purchasing power parities and inflation measures. This manual contains methodological guidelines for statistical offices and other agencies responsible for constructing and calculating CPIs, and also examines underlying economic and statistical concepts involved. Topics covered include: expenditure weights, sampling, price collection, quality adjustment, sampling, price indices calculations, errors and bias, organisation and management, dissemination, index number theory, durables and user costs.
