Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Notes on Physics Our understanding of this subject is further confused by the fact that matter exists in different states, or conditions - the solid. The liquid, and the gaseous - and is of many different kinds, while a given Space may contain a greater or less quantity, depending in part upon the quality of the matter enclosed by that space. Chemistry, indeed, recognizes about eighty different primary kinds of matter called the elements, and it is from combinations of two or more of these that matter of all kinds is made. Download or read book Lecture Notes on Light Classic Reprint written by J. R. Eccles and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-11-13 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Lecture Notes on Light If the importance of having good notes is once accepted, the question then arises as to the form that they should take. Should they be written or printed notes? For a good many years notes on Physics were dictated to the boys at Gresham's School. It was found, however, that this took up a considerable amount of valuable time, which could be saved by having the notes printed and copies supplied to the boys. The result has been a gain of fifty per cent. In the amount of ground covered. At the same time it has been found that the subject matter has been acquired by the boys just as well as through the dictated notes, perhaps even better. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Notes and Questions in Physics The present volume has been written to take the place of a similar book prepared several years ago by Professor C. P. Matthews and the author. Actual experience in the class room indicated the desirability of certain extensions and changes in the text and also of many explanatory notes and solutions, The author regrets that Professor Matthews was unable to cooperate in the preparation of the present volume, particularly as his wide experience in electrical work would have increased the value very materially. Book Elements of Physics Classic Reprint

Download or read book Elements of Physics Classic Reprint written by Fernando Sanford and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-04 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Elements of Physics Man may have at his fingers' ends all the accomplished results and all the current opinions of any one or of all the branches of science, and yet remain wholly unscientific in mind; but no one can have carried out even the humblest research without the spirit of science in some measure resting upon him. And that spirit may in part be caught even without entering upon an actual investigation in search of a new truth. The learner may be led to old truths, even the oldest, in more ways than one. He may be brought abruptly to a truth in its finished form, coming straight to it like a thief climbing over the wall and the hurry and press of modern life tempt many to adopt this quicker way. Or he may be more slowly guided along the path by which the truth was reached by him who first laid hold of it. It is by this latter way of learning the truth, and by this alone, that the learner may hope to catch something at least of the spirit of the scientific inquirer. Book Lecture Notes on Mechanics Sound and Light Classic Reprint

Download or read book Lecture Notes on Mechanics Sound and Light Classic Reprint written by Henry S. Carhart and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-28 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Lecture Notes on Mechanics, Sound and Light The following pages include most of the topics treated in the first Course in Physics in the University. They serve merely the purpose of texts for lectures. No attempt has been made to secure fullness nor to indicate the illustrations accompanying the lectures. Such topics have been selected as appear most important, and an effort has been made to put them in logical relation to one another. The matter here in print will relieve the student of a large part of the labor of taking notes; and, it is hoped, will secure for him more accurate statements than he would otherwise obtain. Book Physics the Elements Classic Reprint

Download or read book Physics the Elements Classic Reprint written by Norman Robert Campbell and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-22 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Physics the Elements The other fault is a complete lack of reference to the work of others. My large index of references was lost in the disorder of war-time removals, and I had no chance, and no time, to replace it. But perhaps the omission is not an unmixed evil. As is pointed out in the Introduction, there is very little original in the substance of the book; there is hardly a paragraph which is not a paraphrase of something that can be found in well-known treatises or papers. If complete references were given, the notes would be almost as bulky as the text, and the book would be quite unreadable; if they were in complete, they would probably be misleading and might cause offence. Moreover if anything valuable has been added to a mere compilation of what everyone knew before, it arises from a unity conferred by the passage of all this matter through a single mind; for though the conclusions reached are seldom new, they have not been easy to reach, but represent many hours of strenuous thought and result from many changes of opinion. Such unity, it seems to me, might be destroyed if the reader were constantly reminded of what others have said on the matter, even if they only said the same things in rather different words. Book Notes on the Properties of Matter and Heat Classic Reprint

Download or read book Notes on the Properties of Matter and Heat Classic Reprint written by Percival Lewis and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-14 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Notes on the Properties of Matter and Heat The following Lecture Notes have been privately printed for the use of students taking sophomore Physics in the University of California. Students cannot be too often reminded that they cannot really learn the principles of Physics unless they become acquainted with them at first hand from daily experience or from individual or lecture experiments; text-books are merely guides to the use of such material. They are very necessary guides, however, for without them it would be impossible for any one person to properly classify, coordinate, and interpret his knowledge, to fill the gaps in his experience, or to get a proper perspective view of the whole subject. In reading, however, do not in any case try to recall the statements as given in the book. See, if you can, the thing or the phenomenon to which your attention is called by'it, and try to remember what your own eyes have seen; if that is impossible, try to form a mental picture of the thing or the phenomenon, not of the words of the book. A proper use of the imagination in this way will make the study a much easier one. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Physics Within the last twenty years the methods of teaching physics have been revolutionized. The reaction against the loose and desultory methods previously in vogue was started by the em phasis given to laboratory work in the new books which then appeared. The movement gained impetus from the influence brought to bear on 'the schools by the Harvard Entrance Require ments and the Report of the Committee of Ten. This pressure on the schools resulted in a demand for closer observation by the students, involving careful measurements. As far as science is concerned, the most important result of this introduction of laboratory work into the schools has been the development in the public mind of a widespread recognition of the fundamental principle that knowledge is real and living to the individual, only when it is founded on personally observed facts and personal experience. Download or read book Physics from Symmetry written by Jakob Schwichtenberg and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-12-01 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a textbook that derives the fundamental theories of physics from symmetry. It starts by introducing, in a completely self-contained way, all mathematical tools needed to use symmetry ideas in physics. Thereafter, these tools are put into action and by using symmetry constraints, the fundamental equations of Quantum Mechanics, Quantum Field Theory, Electromagnetism, and Classical Mechanics are derived. As a result, the reader is able to understand the basic assumptions behind, and the connections between the modern theories of physics. The book concludes with first applications of the previously derived equations. Thanks to the input of readers from around the world, this second edition has been purged of typographical errors and also contains several revised sections with improved explanations.
