Book Notes on Elements of Analytical Solid Geometry Classic Reprint

Download or read book Notes on Elements of Analytical Solid Geometry Classic Reprint written by Charles S. Venable and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-28 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Notes on Elements of (Analytical) Solid Geometry The projection of a line on a plane is the line containing the projections of its points on the plane. When one line or several lines connected together enclose a plane area, the area enclosed by the projection of the lines is called the projection of the first area. The idea of projection may be in the case of the straight line thus extended: if from the extremities of any limited straight line we draw perpendiculars to a second line, the portion of the latter intercepted between the feet of the perpendiculars is called the projection of the limited line on the second line. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Notes on Elements of (Analytical) Solid Geometry 1. We have seen how the position of a point in a plane with reference to a given origin O is determined by means of its distances from two axes Ox, Oy meeting in O. In space, as there are three dimensions, we must add a third axis Oz. So that each pair of axes determines a plane, Ox and Oy determining the plane xOy; Ox and Oz the plane xOz ; Oy and Oz the plane yOz. And the position of the point P with reference to the origin O is determined by its distances PM, PN, PR from the zOy, zOx, xOy respectively, these distances being measured on lines parallel to the axes Ox, Oy and Oz respectively. This system of coordinates in space is called The System of Triplanar Coordinates, and the transition to it from the System of Rectilinear Plane Coordinates is very easy. We can best conceive of these three coordinates of P by conceiving O as the corner of a parallelopipedon of which OA, OB, OC are the edges, and the point P is the opposite corner, so that OP is one diagonal of the parallelopipedon. 2. If PM= OA =a, PN =OB = b, PR = OC = c, the equations of the point P are x= a, y = b, z = c, and the point given by these equations may be found by the following construction: Measure on OX the distance OA =a, and through A draw the plane PNAR parallel to the plane yOz. Measure on Oy the distance OB= b, and draw the plane PMBR parallel to xOz, and finally lay off OC and draw the plane PMCN parallel to xOy. The intersection of these three planes is the point P required. (Fig. 1.) About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Elements of Analytic Geometry Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Elements of Analytic Geometry Classic Reprint written by Percey F. Smith and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-04 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Elements of Analytic Geometry In preparing this volume the authors have endeavored to write a drill book for beginners which presents the elements of the subject in a manner conforming with modern ideas. The scope of the book is limited only by the assumption that a knowledge of Algebra through quadratics must suffice for any investigation. This does not mean a treatise on conic sections. In fact, the authors have intentionally avoided giving the book this form. Conic sections naturally appear, but chiefly as illustrative of general analytic methods. A chapter is devoted to their study, but the numerous properties of these curves are developed inci dentally as applications of methods of general importance. The subject-matter is rather more than is necessary for the usual course of sixty exercises. It has been made so intentionally, to permit of choice on the part of the teacher, and also in order to include all topics strictly elementary in the sense defined above. The table of contents will show topics not usually treated. For example, in discussing the nature of the locus of the general equation of the second degree (chapter XII), invariants are introduced. Again, three chapters are devoted to the simple transformations in the plane. After mastering the entire book, the student is assured of an acquaintance with all that is funda mental in modern Analytic Euclidean Geometry. Book Elements of Analytical Geometry and of the Differential and Integral Calculus Classic Reprint

Download or read book Elements of Analytical Geometry and of the Differential and Integral Calculus Classic Reprint written by Elias Loomis and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-04-23 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Elements of Analytical Geometry and of the Differential and Integral Calculus The following treatise on Analytical Geometry and the Cal culus constitutes the fourth volume of a course of Mathematics designed for Colleges and High Schools, and is prepared upon substantially the same model as the preceding volumes. It was written, not for mathematicians, nor for those who have a pe culiar talent or fondness for the mathematics, but rather for the mass of college students of average abilities. I have, there fore, labored to smooth down the asperities of the road so as not to discourage travelers of moderate strength and courage; but have purposely left some difficulties, to arouse the energies and strengthen the faculties of the beginner. In a course of liberal education, the primary object in studying the mathe maties should be the discipline of the mental powers. This discipline is alike important to the physician and the divine, the jurist and the statesman, and it is more effectually secured by mathematical studies than by any other method hitherto proposed. Hence the mathematics should occupy a prominent place in an education preparatory to either of the learned pro fessions. But, in order to secure the desired advantage, it is indispensable that the student should comprehend the reasons of the processes through which he is conducted. How can he be expected to learn the art of reasoning well, unless he see clearly the foundations of the principles which are taught? This remark applies to every branch of mathematical study, but perhaps to none with the same force as to the Differential and Integral Calculus. The principles of the Calculus are fur ther removed from the elementary conceptions of the mass of mankind than either Algebra, Geometry, or Trigonometry, and they require to be developed with corresponding care. It is quite possible for a student to learn the rules of the Calculus. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Analytic Geometry Classic Reprint

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Analytic Geometry While the book is to be regarded as a text-book of plane analytic geometry, the concluding chapter is devoted to solid geometry. Only the barest outline of some of the fundamental principles of this subject is included, enough to enable the student, when he studies calculus, and wishes to apply its principles to problems involving solids and surfaces, to feel that he is not on entirely new ground. Book Analytical Mechanics A Comprehensive Treatise On The Dynamics Of Constrained Systems Reprint Edition

Download or read book Analytical Mechanics A Comprehensive Treatise On The Dynamics Of Constrained Systems Reprint Edition written by John G Papastavridis and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2014-03-06 with total page 1417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a comprehensive, state-of-the-art, treatise on the energetic mechanics of Lagrange and Hamilton, that is, classical analytical dynamics, and its principal applications to constrained systems (contact, rolling, and servoconstraints). It is a book on advanced dynamics from a unified viewpoint, namely, the kinetic principle of virtual work, or principle of Lagrange. As such, it continues, renovates, and expands the grand tradition laid by such mechanics masters as Appell, Maggi, Whittaker, Heun, Hamel, Chetaev, Synge, Pars, Luré, Gantmacher, Neimark, and Fufaev. Many completely solved examples complement the theory, along with many problems (all of the latter with their answers and many of them with hints). Although written at an advanced level, the topics covered in this 1400-page volume (the most extensive ever written on analytical mechanics) are eminently readable and inclusive. It is of interest to engineers, physicists, and mathematicians; advanced undergraduate and graduate students and teachers; researchers and professionals; all will find this encyclopedic work an extraordinary asset; for classroom use or self-study. In this edition, corrections (of the original edition, 2002) have been incorporated.
