Appendix A. Gives the usual requirements for an expedition of ten men and a manager for two months, inclusive of the time taken going to and returning from the Fields. It is not possible to give a definite period in which the trips should be aecom plished, as this greatly depends upon the state of the river whether the water is high, low, or normal. Experience has shewn, however, that the average number of days taken for the up journey, between Bartica. And Ottawa Landing, is twelve; and for the downward trip, three and a half days. In both cases only working days are reckoned. Sometimes the up trip takes as long as twenty days, and the run down seven.
