Book Northwest Pacific Ocean Waters in Winter The Johns Hopkins Oceanographic Studies Number 5

Download or read book Northwest Pacific Ocean Waters in Winter The Johns Hopkins Oceanographic Studies Number 5 written by Joseph L. Reid and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Boreas expedition to the northwestern Pacific Ocean, Bering Sea, and Okhotsk Sea measured water characteristics in the upper 1500 m in the period from 27 January to 1 April 1966. The purpose of this study is to describe the winter characteristics and circulation of the northwestern Pacific Ocean as one contribution toward a general understanding of the world ocean. The attempt is to show what happens to the circulation under the intensified winter winds, to the thickness and structure of the upper layer under the effects of the winds and the winter cooling, and to the general distributions of the characteristics both in the upper layer and beneath.

Book Descriptive Physical Oceanography

Download or read book Descriptive Physical Oceanography written by George L. Pickard and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-10-27 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rapidly developing field of oceanography has necessitated the publication of a fifth edition of this classic textbook. The revised version provides an introduction to descriptive (synoptic) oceanography and contains updated information on topics such as the heat budget, instruments and in particular, the use of satellites. The sections on equatorial oceanography, sea-ice physics, distribution and El Nino have been completely rewritten. The book is further supplemented by text on thermohaline circulation, mixing and also coral reef oceanography.

Book Asian Change in the Context of Global Climate Change

Download or read book Asian Change in the Context of Global Climate Change written by James Galloway and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1998-09-28 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nearly two-thirds of the world's population live in Asia, and many countries in that region are currently undergoing very rapid industrial, agricultural and economic development. The Framework Convention on Climate Change constrains developed countries with regard to their future emissions of greenhouse gases, but recognizes the special needs of developing countries. There is growing appreciation of the ways in which developing countries in the Asian region both contribute to global changes (by altering biogeochemical pathways and cycles) and are themselves affected by those changes. This volume uses the intellectual efforts and findings of the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP) community to provide the first integrated analysis of the interactions between global change and Asian change, giving particular attention to China's role. The book will be of interest to readers in a wide range of academic disciplines (natural sciences and socio-economic) and for those involved in national and international policy development relevant to global change.
