Download or read book Northwest Pacific Ocean Waters in Winter The Johns Hopkins Oceanographic Studies Number 5 written by Joseph L. Reid and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Boreas expedition to the northwestern Pacific Ocean, Bering Sea, and Okhotsk Sea measured water characteristics in the upper 1500 m in the period from 27 January to 1 April 1966. The purpose of this study is to describe the winter characteristics and circulation of the northwestern Pacific Ocean as one contribution toward a general understanding of the world ocean. The attempt is to show what happens to the circulation under the intensified winter winds, to the thickness and structure of the upper layer under the effects of the winds and the winter cooling, and to the general distributions of the characteristics both in the upper layer and beneath.
