This book was released on 2014-03-06 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Nordic countries have collaborated in setting guidelines for dietary composition and recommended intakes of nutrients for several decades through the joint publication of the Nordic Nutrition Recommendations (NNR). This 5th edition, the NNR 2012, gives Dietary Reference Values (DRVs) for nutrients, and compared with earlier editions more emphasis has been put on evaluating the scientific evidence for the role of food and food patterns contributing to the prevention of the major diet-related chronic diseases. Recommendations on physical activity are included and interaction with physical activity has been taken into account for the individual nutrient recommendations wherever appropriate. A chapter on sustainable food consumption has been added. A Nordic perspective has been accounted for in setting the reference values. The NNR 2012 has used an evidence-based and transparent approach in assessing associations between nutrients and foods and certain health outcomes. Systematic reviews form the basis for the recommendations of several nutrients and topics, while a less stringent update has been done for others. The systematic reviews and individual chapters have been peer reviewed and the systematic reviews are published in the Food & Nutrition Research journal. The draft chapters were subject to an open public consultation. Recommendations have been changed only when sufficient scientific evidence has evolved since the 4th edition. The primary aim of the NNR 2012 is to present the scientific background of the recommendations and their application. A secondary aim is for the NNR 2012 to function as a basis for the national recommendations that are adopted by the individual

Book Nordic Food Transitions

Download or read book Nordic Food Transitions written by Jesper Manniche and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-12-07 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ambition of the book is to investigate a possible transition in the markets for food in the Nordic countries. Six chapters from various disciplinary traditions study change and innovation within the food sectors in Denmark, Sweden and Norway; while an introductory chapter discusses the findings of these analyses. Specialty food has established a strong position within product categories such as craft beer in Denmark and organic food in Sweden, but has failed to do so in others. The emergence of markets for specialty foods have been promoted by top-down policy initiatives and bottom-up entrepreneurial efforts. Far from providing the only relevant platform for food transition and innovation, the "New Nordic Food" manifesto has helped creating a territorialized action space for networks of food producers and distributors promoting diversity in local food and rural development. Some of the specialty food networks have succeeded in re-scaling their operations from a local to a national market. Today even large retailers and food processing companies have to pay notice to the ongoing changes among consumers. There is however a paradoxical constraint in a transition towards specialty food. A large-scale transition would imply that producers and consumers abandon precisely what constitute them - their exclusiveness. The chapters were originally published in a special issue of European Planning Studies.

Book Mergers Alliances and Acquisitions in the Nordic Agro and Food Industry

Download or read book Mergers Alliances and Acquisitions in the Nordic Agro and Food Industry written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: A strong agro and food industry is one of the best means for securing a healthy and stable financial development in the agricultural industry. As the concentration of enterprises in the retail industry and the agro and food industry has increased in the past years, enterprises have begun looking beyond the national borders for new business partners. The extent of cross-border co-operation in the Nordic region has also increased significantly in a relatively short period of time. Because the agro and food industry varies from country to country in the Nordic region, this development involves both advantages and disadvantages as to which business areas can advantageously be chosen with a view to co-operation. In some areas the enterprises can supplement each other, but in other sectors the variations between the Nordic countries limit the possibilities of co-operation. However, all the cross-border co-operation in the Nordic agro and food industry is presumably started with an expectation of positive synergetic effects and a better common financial performance. Despite that an evaluation of the experiences has not been conducted. In addition to this, a common forum that can support and stimulate a positive development of co-operation in the Nordic agro and food industry is missing. On this background the aim of the project is the following: The aim of the project is to enhance the competitiveness of the Nordic agro and food industry. This will happen through the mapping out and analysis of the existing co-operation and the potential for new co-operation in the Nordic agro and food industry. Consequently, the project will establish new knowledge that can be the foundation for increased co-operation among the enterprises in the Nordic agro and food industry. At the same time the project will try to expand and cement the common Nordic networks in the agricultural sector by spreading the information and experiences from the project

Book Development of the Nordic Baltic Market for Organic Food

Download or read book Development of the Nordic Baltic Market for Organic Food written by Nordic Council of Ministers and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2005-06-02 with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report contains the conclusions from the project "Development of the Nordic/Baltic Market for Organic Food" in which public authorities and NGO's from Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden have participated. The objective of this project was to elaborate a joint project proposal in order to promote the development of the Nordic-Baltic market for organic products. The project identifies and describes a range of barriers for a market driven development of the organic sector, including lack of consumer awareness, deficient market data, different standards and labelling, lack of marketing channels, lack of processing and innovation and high prices. Against this background the project points out a range of potential cross-border activities, including an information campaign to raise awareness and induce consumers' trust in organic products, construction of a common information system on the rules and procedures, promotion of the EU-logo and national logos, collaboration between retail chains and representative organic organisations and finally alternative distribution channels. In order to enable the implementation of one or more of these potential activities the project has identified relevant funding opportunities. The most relevant funding opportunity has been identified as the EU promotion scheme (Commission Legislation (EC) 94/2002 of 18 January 2002), which is therefore described thoroughly.

Download or read book Food Labelling written by Nordic Council of Ministers and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2007 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report summarizes the final results of a quantitative study on Nordic consumers' attitudes to food labelling. The study was conducted in the five Nordic countries Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland. More than 1,000 interviews were conducted in each country. The results of this survey show that information about ingredients, nutritional contents, "best-before-date", and country of origin must be printed clearly on the food package. This is the "top-of-mind" information Nordic consumers want to see on food labels to be able to make a conscious choice when buying food. Furthermore, a majority of Nordic consumers welcome measures to help consumers to take in information and increase the legibility of food packages. There is strong support for the introduction of a minimum print size and for obligatory labelling information always being laid out in the same format on the package. The purpose of the study was to collect up to date information and knowledge on the needs and attitudes of Nordic consumers regarding food labelling. The study aims to contribute to the preparation for the upcoming European Union revision of the food labelling rules.

Book Programme for Nordic Co operation on the Environment and Climate 2019 2024

Download or read book Programme for Nordic Co operation on the Environment and Climate 2019 2024 written by and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2018-12-06 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many years, the Nordic countries have worked together successfully on the environment and climate, which has contributed to significant progress both in the Nordic Region and internationally. However, in recent years, the challenges we face have grown in size and quantity, making co-operation increasingly important. Between 2019 and 2024, the Nordic countries will work together to bring about sustainable development in the Nordic Region, the EU, and internationally. Together, the countries will pursue the ambitious implementation of international agreements on the environment and climate – in particular the Paris Agreement – and work together to strengthen the EU’s regulatory framework regarding the environment and climate. The Nordic countries will continue to be front-runners in terms of bringing about change. Nordic co-operation on the environment and climate seeks to halt the loss of biodiversity and bring about the sustainable use of natural resources. Together, we will work to accelerate the transition to a circular economy that limits our consumption and production to the capacity of nature. Other important areas of co-operation include efforts to minimise the risks posed by chemicals and hazardous substances, and stop the discharge. Compared with previous programme periods, there is a stronger emphasis on co-operation on sustainable cities, climate adaptation, and green financing.
