Book Nonlinear Oscillations of a Maxwellian Plasma

Download or read book Nonlinear Oscillations of a Maxwellian Plasma written by Hari K. Sen and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exact non-linear wave solutions are obtained for waves stationary in a uniformly moving frame for the case of a Maxwellian electron plasma in a uniform ion background. It is found that there are no waves below a minimum wave velocity; anharmonic waves develop above the critical velocity, but only up to a maximum amplitude, depending on the wave velocity; frequency amplitude relations indicate that small amplitude linearized theory is not a good approximation, except for large wave velocities; and in the limit of zero amplitude, twice the frequency of oscillation given by linearized theory for any wave velocity is obtained. Book Nonlinear Theory of Electron Oscillations of a Collisionless Plasma in a Uniform Magnetic Field

Download or read book Nonlinear Theory of Electron Oscillations of a Collisionless Plasma in a Uniform Magnetic Field written by H. K. Sen and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Possibility of excitation of finite amplitude longitudinal waves in a collisionless and cold plasma in the presence of uniform magnetic field is demonstrated. Such waves are found to be anharmonic in shape, in contrast to the usual harmonic, that is, sinusoidal waves of the linear theory. These nonlinear plasma waves arise as a result of nonlinear motion and the dispersive nature of plasma media. The two competing processes, nonlinearity and dispersion in a moving plasma medium strike a balance to produce a quasi-steady state which can support finite amplitude waves. These waves are associated with large amplitude oscillating electric fields which may be responsible for coherent radio-to-microwave radiation from coronal plasma and particle acceleration during solar flares. The estimate of sporadic electromagnetic and particulate radiation is important for application to the solar flare patrol and the Air Force Communications System. (Author).

Book The Frequency of Nonlinear Plasma Oscillations

Download or read book The Frequency of Nonlinear Plasma Oscillations written by H. Derfler and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The frequency of plane standing waves of electrons moving through a background of infinitely heavy ions is strictly independent of amplitue as long as the electron velocity is a unique function of position. This result is contrary to those presented in recent publications by S. Amer, J. Electronics and Control, 5:105-13, 158 and L. Gold, J. Electronics and Control, 6:548-549, 1959. The frequencies of spherical and cylindicl plsma oscillations, however, do depend upon the amplitude of the oscillation. AsA RESULT, ANY PHASE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ELECTRONS EVENTUALLY WILL BE DESTROYED AND THE ELECTRON VELOCIY BECOMES MULTIVALUED. Therefore steady free oscillations do not persist even in a cold plasma. (Author).

Book Methods in Nonlinear Plasma Theory

Download or read book Methods in Nonlinear Plasma Theory written by Ronald Davidson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Methods in Nonlinear Plasma Theory is from lectures given in graduate classes in both University of Maryland and University of California at Berkeley. To be able to understand fully the contents in this book, the reader is assumed to be a graduate student with background of classical physics and linear plasma waves and instabilities. This text is divided into two major parts. Part I deals with the coherent nonlinear phenomena, while Part II discusses the turbulent nonlinear phenomena. Six chapters comprise Part I, where basic equations and methods are described and discussed. Some of these methods are Vlasov-Maxwell equations and Korteweg-de Vries equation. Part II meanwhile has eight chapters that discuss frameworks and theories for weak plasma turbulence. Specifically, the weak turbulence theory is presented as it is applied to electromagnetic wave-particle interactions, nonlinear wave-wave interactions, and nonlinear wave-particle interactions. This book is a useful reference for students and researchers in the study of classical physics and plasma theory.

Download or read book Nonlinear Effects in Plasma written by V. Tsytovich and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For some time now there has been an interest in the nop. linear interaction of electromagnetic waves in plasma [1,2]. But only in the last few years has the theory of nonlinear wave inter action effects undergone such vigorous development as to result in the formulation of clear phYSical concepts regarding the mech anisms of interaction. This development has been engendered by attempts to solve many of the plasma-physical problems accom panying the tremendous growth of experimental research [3]. The importance of nonlinear effects in modern plasma physics is dis cussed in detail in Chap. I. At this point we merely stress the fact that today the analysis of nonlinear effects is a practical ne cessity in any experiment involving plasma instabilities. We should also point out that plasma instabilities can assert them selves extensively in solids (solid state plasma) and play an im portant part in the study of cosmic plasma. Consequently, the problems of nonlinear wave interaction in plasma are of concern to those working in widely different areas of physics. Yet it is difficult to assimilate the results of investigations on nonlinear effects, owing to the complicated way in which the results of orig inal research are presented. In the present book the author hopes in some measure to fill the need for a text on the physics of non linear effects that is accessible to a fairly general audience.

Book Nonlinear Physics of Plasmas

    Book Details:
  • Author : Mitsuo Kono
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2010-10-17
  • ISBN : 3642146945
  • Pages : 540 pages

Download or read book Nonlinear Physics of Plasmas written by Mitsuo Kono and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-10-17 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A nonlinearity is one of the most important notions in modern physics. A plasma is rich in nonlinearities and provides a variety of behaviors inherent to instabilities, coherent wave structures and turbulence. The book covers the basic concepts and mathematical methods, necessary to comprehend nonlinear problems widely encountered in contemporary plasmas, but also in other fields of physics and current research on self-organized structures and magnetized plasma turbulence. The analyses make use of strongly nonlinear models solved by analytical techniques backed by extensive simulations and available experiments. The text is written for senior undergraduates, graduate students, lecturers and researchers in laboratory, space and fusion plasmas.

Book Plasma Instabilities and Nonlinear Effects

Download or read book Plasma Instabilities and Nonlinear Effects written by A. Hasegawa and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years the significant progress in satellite-based observations of plasma states and associated electromagnetic phenomena in space has resulted in the accumulation of much evidence of various plasma instabilities. Today plasma instabilities are believed to be responsible for electromagnetic radiation as well as for many of the macroscopic dynamics of plasmas in space. Most students who begin to study plasma physics are intrigued by the unstable nature of plasmas compared with other states of matter; however, they often become frustrated because there are so many in stabilities. Such frustration explains in part why there is no textbook which treats this subject exclusively. A description of plasma instabilities in a systematic way is nontrivial and takes a pertinacious effort. This book is an attempt to provide a basic introduction on the subject and covers most of the important instabilities. However, the author must apologize for any omission of references to contributions of individuals who deserve more credit. The reader is assumed to have a general knowledge of plasma physics obtainable in an undergraduate course. The book is intended to be used as a reference text on the subject of plasma instabilities at the under graduate level as well as for a text in a special course in graduate school. Because the book is part of a series on physics and chemistry in space, emphasis is placed on plasma instabilities relevant in space plasmas.
