Book Nonlinear Dynamics of Continuous Elastic Systems

Download or read book Nonlinear Dynamics of Continuous Elastic Systems written by Jan Awrejcewicz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph is devoted to recent advances in nonlinear dynamics of continuous elastic systems. A major part of the book is dedicated to the analysis of non-homogeneous continua, e.g. plates and shells characterized by sudden changes in their thickness, possessing holes in their bodies or/and edges, made from different materials with diverse dynamical characteristics and complicated boundary conditions. New theoretical and numerical approaches for analyzing the dynamics of such continua are presented, such as the method of added masses and the method of proper orthogonal decomposition. The presented hybrid approach leads to results that cannot be obtained by other standard theories in the field. The demonstrated methods are illustrated by numerous examples of application.

Book Nonlinear Dynamics of Active and Passive Systems of Vibration Protection

Download or read book Nonlinear Dynamics of Active and Passive Systems of Vibration Protection written by Michail Z. Kolovsky and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-05 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With progress in technology, the problem of protecting human-beings, ma chines and technological processes from !>Ources of vibration and impact has become of utmost importance. Traditional "classical" methods of pro tection, based upon utilising elastic passive and dissipative elements, turn out to be inefficient in many situations and can not completely satisfy the complex and often contradictory claims imposed on modern vibration protection systems which must provide high performance at minimum di mensions. For these reasons, active vibration protection systems, which are actually systems of automatic control with independent power sources, are widely used nowadays. Appearing and developing active systems require that traditional ap proaches to the analysis and synthesis of vibration protection systems must be revised. Firstly, there exists the necessity to re-state the problem of vi bration protection from mechanical actions as an equivalent problem in closed-loop control systems design, which is to be solved by the methods of control theory. Furthermore, it turns out that certain inherent proper ties of active systems must be taken into account for a proper design. In the majority of cases, the dynamic models of the objects to be protected and the bases to which these objects are to be attached must be revised. They are no longer considered as rigid bodies but elastic bodies with weak dissipation.

Book Nonlinear Theory of Dislocations and Disclinations in Elastic Bodies

Download or read book Nonlinear Theory of Dislocations and Disclinations in Elastic Bodies written by Leonid M. Zubov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-09-11 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author applies methods of nonlinear elasticity to investigate the defects in the crystal structure of solids such as dislocations and disclinations that characterize the plastic and strength properties of many materials. Contrary to the geometrically motivated nonlinear theory of dislocations continuously distributed over the body, nonlinear analysis of isolated dislocations and disclinations is less developed; it is given for the first time in this book, and in a form accessible to both students and researchers. The general theory of Volterra's dislocations in elastic media under large deformations is developed. A number of exact solutions are found. The nonlinear approach to investigating the isolated defects produces results that often differ qualitatively from those of the linear theory.

Book Nonlinear Deformable body Dynamics

Download or read book Nonlinear Deformable body Dynamics written by Albert C. J. Luo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-06-08 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Nonlinear Deformable-body Dynamics" mainly consists in a mathematical treatise of approximate theories for thin deformable bodies, including cables, beams, rods, webs, membranes, plates, and shells. The intent of the book is to stimulate more research in the area of nonlinear deformable-body dynamics not only because of the unsolved theoretical puzzles it presents but also because of its wide spectrum of applications. For instance, the theories for soft webs and rod-reinforced soft structures can be applied to biomechanics for DNA and living tissues, and the nonlinear theory of deformable bodies, based on the Kirchhoff assumptions, is a special case discussed. This book can serve as a reference work for researchers and a textbook for senior and postgraduate students in physics, mathematics, engineering and biophysics. Dr. Albert C.J. Luo is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, IL, USA. Professor Luo is an internationally recognized scientist in the field of nonlinear dynamics in dynamical systems and deformable solids.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 1. Background This textbook is an introduction to and exploration of a number of core topics in the ?eld of applied mechanics. Mechanics, in both its theoretical and applied contexts, is, like all scienti?c endeavors, a human construct. It re?ects the personalities, thoughts, errors, and successes of its creators. We therefore provide some personal information about each of these individuals when their names arise for the ?rst time in this book. This should enable the reader to piece together a cultural-historical picture of the ?eld s origins and development. This does not mean that we are writing history. Nevertheless, some remarks putting individuals and ideas in context are necessary in order to make clear what we are speaking about – and what we are not speaking about. At the end of the 19th century, technical universities were established eve- where in Europe in an almost euphoric manner. But the practice of technical mechanics itself, as one of the basics of technical development, was in a desolate state, due largely to the refusal of its practitioners to recognize the in?uence of kinetics on motion. They were correct to the extend that then current mechanical systems moved with small velocities where kinetics does not play a signi?cant role. But they had failed to keep up with developments in the science underlying their craft and were unable to keep pace with the speeds of such systems as the steam engine.

Book Dynamics of Thin Walled Elastic Bodies

Download or read book Dynamics of Thin Walled Elastic Bodies written by J. D. Kaplunov and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by a well-known group of researchers from Moscow, this book is a study of the asymptotic approximations of the 3-D dynamical equations of elasticity in the case of thin elastic shells of an arbitrary shape. Vibration of shells is a very useful theory in space techniques, submarine detection, and other high-tech domains. Dynamics of Thin Walled Elastic Bodies shows that refined shell theories used in engineering practice give a distorted picture of the high-frequency or non-stationary dynamics of shells, and offers new, mathematically more consistent ways of describing the dynamics of shells. Book Modeling Nonlinear Problems in the Mechanics of Strings and Rods

Download or read book Modeling Nonlinear Problems in the Mechanics of Strings and Rods written by Oliver M. O'Reilly and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-03-10 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents theories of deformable elastic strings and rods and their application to broad classes of problems. Readers will gain insights into the formulation and analysis of models for mechanical and biological systems. Emphasis is placed on how the balance laws interplay with constitutive relations to form a set of governing equations. For certain classes of problems, it is shown how a balance of material momentum can play a key role in forming the equations of motion. The first half of the book is devoted to the purely mechanical theory of a string and its applications. The second half of the book is devoted to rod theories, including Euler’s theory of the elastica, Kirchhoff ’s theory of an elastic rod, and a range of Cosserat rod theories. A variety of classic and recent applications of these rod theories are examined. Two supplemental chapters, the first on continuum mechanics of three-dimensional continua and the second on methods from variational calculus, are included to provide relevant background for students. This book is suited for graduate-level courses on the dynamics of nonlinearly elastic rods and strings.

Book Computational efficient flexible multibody dynamics with nonlinear loads and many modes

Download or read book Computational efficient flexible multibody dynamics with nonlinear loads and many modes written by Wolfgang Witteveen and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2022-04-28 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Professorial Dissertation from the year 2021 in the subject Physics - Mechanics, , language: English, abstract: The consideration of Finite Element (FE) structures in multibody simulation (MBS) has become an established method, especially when the number of force application points remains moderate. In recent years, a trend can be observed in which distributed loads are considered as well, such as those arising from the contact of two elastic bodies. For finely-meshed FE structures, this results in a large number of possible force application points. In such a case, conventional methods fail, leading to exorbitantly high computation times. In the last decade, approaches for the reduced computation of deformations inside distributed load application areas were introduced. Special approach vectors are used, called "local modes" here. These local modes lead to a reduction in the involved equations by several orders of magnitude. However, for very large potential load application areas, a large number of local modes is still required—for example, several thousand. Since each local mode leads to a differential equation, a fast numerical time integration is not possible with common methods. In this work, two methodological improvements are proposed for a fast and accurate time integration of such systems.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to analytically approximate methods in the nonlinear dynamics of a rigid body with cavities (containers) partly filled by a liquid. The methods are normally based on the Bateman-Luke variational formalism combined with perturbation theory. The derived approximate equations of spatial motions of the body-liquid mechanical system (these equations are called mathematical models in the title) take the form of a finite-dimensional system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations coupling quasi-velocities of the rigid body motions and generalized coordinates responsible for displacements of the natural sloshing modes. Algorithms for computing the hydrodynamic coefficients in the approximate mathematical models are proposed. Numerical values of these coefficients are listed for some tank shapes and liquid fillings. The mathematical models are also derived for the contained liquid characterized by the Newton-type dissipation. Formulas for hydrodynamic force and moment are derived in terms of the solid body quasi-velocities and the sloshing-related generalized coordinates. For prescribed harmonic excitations of upright circular (annular) cylindrical and/or conical tanks, the steady-state sloshing regimes are theoretically classified; the results are compared with known experimental data. The book can be useful for both experienced and early-stage mechanicians, applied mathematicians and engineers interested in (semi-)analytical approaches to the “fluid-structure” interaction problems, their fundamental mathematical background as well as in modeling the dynamics of complex mechanical systems containing a rigid tank partly filled by a liquid.

Book Nonlinear Elasticity

Download or read book Nonlinear Elasticity written by R. W. Dickey and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonlinear Elasticity presents a description of research and result on various nonlinear problems arising in elasticity. This book covers a variety of topics, including shallow elastic membranes, nonlinear elasticity, finite deformations of elastic solids, and nonlinear thermoelasticity. Organized into 11 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the nonlinear theory of buckling of elastic shells. This text then examines the ways in which the energy criterion supplies a necessary condition for asymptotic stability. Other chapters consider some of the phenomena, both physical and mathematical, that typify the large deformation of a nonlinearly elastic body. This book discusses as well the concepts leading to a criterion for instabilities and discusses how the criterion applies to some well-known ideal materials. The final chapter deals with the structure of strong shocks and studies the evolution of such a shock produced by a suddenly-applied strain. This book is a valuable resource for mathematicians.
