Book Matrix Analysis of Shells

Download or read book Matrix Analysis of Shells written by John H. Argyris and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A short resume of the matrix displacement method of structural analysis is given and followed by some essential matrix transformations. The stiffness matrices of parallelogram, rectangular and triangular bending elements are developed followed by extensions to consider also membrane stresses. A kinematically consistent idealization of pressure loadings is presented, and the extension of the matrix displacement method to large displacement problems considered. Matrix eigenvalue problems arising in buckling, free vibration and damped vibration are considered and algorithms described for the determination of eigenvalues. Some examples are presented.

Book Application of the Matrix Displacement Method to the Linear Elastic Analysis of Shells of Revolution

Download or read book Application of the Matrix Displacement Method to the Linear Elastic Analysis of Shells of Revolution written by John H. Percy and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report describes the application of the matrix displacement method to the linear elastic analysis of shells of revolution. The shell is idealized as a series of conical frusta, joined at nodal circles. The use of this idealization to handle asymmetric deformations is demonstrated. It is shown how approximations to the mass and stiffness matrices may be consistently derived; these may then be used to solve both static and dynamic problems. The effect on the results of static analyses of improving the approximation to the stiffness matrix is demonstrated and discussed. Results of static analyses of several shell configurations are presented and these are compared with solutions by other methods. (Author).

Book Nonlinear Analysis of Structures 1997

Download or read book Nonlinear Analysis of Structures 1997 written by Muthukrishnan Sathyamoorthy and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 640 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonlinear Analysis of Structures presents a complete evaluation of the nonlinear static and dynamic behavior of beams, rods, plates, trusses, frames, mechanisms, stiffened structures, sandwich plates, and shells. These elements are important components in a wide variety of structures and vehicles such as spacecraft and missiles, underwater vessels and structures, and modern housing. Today's engineers and designers must understand these elements and their behavior when they are subjected to various types of loads. Coverage includes the various types of nonlinearities, stress-strain relations and the development of nonlinear governing equations derived from nonlinear elastic theory. This complete guide includes both mathematical treatment and real-world applications, with a wealth of problems and examples to support the text. Special topics include a useful and informative chapter on nonlinear analysis of composite structures, and another on recent developments in symbolic computation. Designed for both self-study and classroom instruction, Nonlinear Analysis of Structures is also an authoritative reference for practicing engineers and scientists. One of the world's leaders in the study of nonlinear structural analysis, Professor Sathyamoorthy has made significant research contributions to the field of nonlinear mechanics for twenty-seven years. His foremost contribution to date has been the development of a unique transverse shear deformation theory for plates undergoing large amplitude vibrations and the examination of multiple mode solutions for plates. In addition to his notable research, Professor Sathyamoorthy has also developed and taught courses in the field at universities in India, Canada, and the United States.

Book An Assessment of Current Capability for Computer Analysis of Shell Structures

Download or read book An Assessment of Current Capability for Computer Analysis of Shell Structures written by Richard F. Hartung and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report contains an assessment of current shell analysis capability. The assessment is based on work conducted at the Lockheed Palo Alto Research Laboratory under contract to the Air Force Flight Dynamics Laboratory. In addition to surveying the open literature, information for the study was gathered during a series of visits made to organizations throughout the United States at which there is an active shell analysis research effort. More than 40 industrial concerns, government agencies and universities have been visited to date. During each visit, technical personnel working in the area of shell analysis were interviewed to determine the scope of their present analysis capability, to learn of current research activities and to discuss computer methods of shell analysis in general. Information so obtained is summarized in a series of briefs which appear in the Appendix of this report.

Book Nonlinear Static and Dynamic Analysis of Shells of Revolution Under Axisymmetric Loading

Download or read book Nonlinear Static and Dynamic Analysis of Shells of Revolution Under Axisymmetric Loading written by Sambamurthy Nagarajan and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method of analyzing nonlinear static and dynamic responses of deformable solids has been developed based on an incremental variational formulation using the Lagrangian mode of description. The material nonlinearity due to plasticity or viscoplasticity as well as the geometric nonlinearity due to large displacements are considered. The equations of motion are obtained in a linearized incremental form using the principle of virtual work and solved using step-by-step numerical integration procedures. Equilibrium check is made at the end of each step and the residual forces are added to the next increment for improved accuracy over the pure incremental method. For elastic-plastic solutions the flow theory of plasticity is used along with the von Mises yield condition for isotropically hardening materials. The viscoplastic constitutive theory is also in the form of an associated flow law and capable of considering strain rate sensitive behavior. The viscoplastic strains are taken into account using an initial strain formulation. The discretization of the structure is achieved by the use of degenerate isoparametric finite elements and the computer codes that have been developed are capable of analyzing large axisymmetric deformations of shells of revolution.
