Subcommittee D-4 on Road and Paving Materials and published by ASTM International. This book was released on 1994 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The proceedings of June 1993 international symposium held in Atlanta, Georgia, called specifically to develop and standardized evaluation procedures for non-destructive methods of testing pavements. The 29 papers discuss analytical models and techniques, measurement and calculation techniques in the field and laboratory, problems and errors associated with backcalculation methods and design parameters, and testing for other pavement uses. Also includes a history of the quest for a standard and the status of that effort. Reproduced from typescripts. Annotation copyright by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR

Book Guidelines for Evaluation of Asphalt overlaid Concrete Pavements

Download or read book Guidelines for Evaluation of Asphalt overlaid Concrete Pavements written by Kathleen Theresa Hall and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents guidelines for selection of asphalt-overlaid concrete (AC/PCC) pavements for rehabilitation, collection of distress data, recognition of AC/PCC pavement distress modes, nondestructive deflection testing, materials sampling, and overall project-level evaluation. Key condition indicators (distress, rutting, roughness, serviceability, and CRS) were examined to address their usefulness in AC/PCC rehabilitation project selection. Critical levels for these indicators were identified, and available prediction models were investigated for use in rehabilitation programming. The project-level evaluation procedure includes guidelines for field and laboratory data collection and analysis for structural evaluation, functional evaluation, drainage evaluation, and AC surface material evaluation. A procedure was developed for backcalculation of AC/PCC pavement layer elastic moduli from deflection measurements, and guidelines were developed for practical interpretation of the backcalculation results. The recommended evaluation procedure relies on conventional testing and evaluation methods (visual surveying, deflection testing, coring, materials testing, etc.). New technologies (e.g., ground-penetrating radar, infrared thermography) are developing which have potential for use in pavement evaluation. These technologies are also reviewed in this report.

Book SHRP Plans for Nondestructive Deflection Testing in the Development of Pavement Performance Prediction Models

Download or read book SHRP Plans for Nondestructive Deflection Testing in the Development of Pavement Performance Prediction Models written by JB. Rauhut and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nondestructive deflection testing using falling weight deflectometers is one element of the monitoring effort planned by the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP) for the Long-Term Pavement Performance Studies (LTPP). Nondestructive deflection testing provides data for the backcalculation of moduli for the various pavement structural layers, as well as critically important data on material variability that is expected to be an important independent variable in future pavement performance prediction models. The backcalculated layer moduli are critical to the development of calibrated mechanistic-empirical models for a variety of uses. These moduli must be calculated using standard procedures representing the state of the art. Current studies are aimed at identifying specific problems leading to unacceptable variations in backcalculated moduli when using different computer codes and closure tolerances. It is expected that these studies will provide a wealth of information which will be useful as SHRP planning for the use of deflection testing proceeds. Backcalculated moduli from measurements at a number of locations within a test section are to be used to establish the mean, minimum, maximum, and standard deviation of moduli for each layer. In addition, it is planned that four drop heights will be used to apply four different load levels at a single location. Four load levels should provide the variations in layer moduli with stress sensitivity.

Book Non destructive Testing

Download or read book Non destructive Testing written by and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Non-destructive testing of pavement structures can be achieved by accurately measuring and interpreting deflection data. this paper describes a computer program designed for simple and fast processing of deflection data collected using a falling weight deflectometer (fwd). a set of diagnostic parameters are calculated: first, maximum horizontal strain in the asphalt concrete (ac) under the test load, directly via the corresponding maximum curvature; next, the elastic stiffness (or young's modulus) of the subgrade; and finally, the vertical stress, strain and deflection on top of the subgrade, by means of an improved method of equivalent layer thickness. the actual stresses, strains, and deflections at test conditions can be normalized for standard ac temperature and standard test load. diagnostic and design applications are discussed. comparisons are made with parallel elastic layer analysis computations. for the covering abstract of the conference see irrd 807201.
