Book The Behavior of Flexible Airfield Pavements Under Loads Theory and Experiments

Download or read book The Behavior of Flexible Airfield Pavements Under Loads Theory and Experiments written by Yu Tang Chou and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The instrumentation data of the multiple-wheel heavy gear load (MWHGL) tests were reduced and analyzed. By incorporating the performance of test pavements under traffic, relations between load and pavement response were established. A method was developed to compute the measured stresses and deflections of the test pavements; based on the method, the stresses and deflections can be computed for similar types of airfield pavements under different loads. Correlations were established between computed parameters and traffic performance data from the MWHGL test section as well as from many other pavement tests conducted by the Corps of Engineers. Based on the instrumentation data, the principle of superposition was found to be valid for flexible pavements. Attempts were made to reevaluate the equivalent single-wheel loads for MWHGLs by many different methods. (Author).

Book Long and Deep Tunnels

Download or read book Long and Deep Tunnels written by Vittorio Guglielmetti and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-04-15 with total page 1336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The design and construction of “long and deep” tunnels, i.e. tunnels under mountains, characterised by either considerable length and/or overburden, represent a considerable challenge. The scope of this book is not to instruct how to design and construct such tunnels but to share a method to identify the potential hazards related to the process of designing and constructing long and deep tunnels, to produce a relevant comprehensive analysis and listing, to quantify the probability and consequences, and to design proper mitigation measures and countermeasures. The design, developed using probabilistic methods, is verified during execution by means of the so called Plan for Advance of the Tunnel (PAT) method, which allows adapting the design and control parameters of the future stretches of the tunnel to the results of the stretches already finished, using the monitoring data base. Numerous criteria are given to identify the key parameters, necessary for the PAT procedure. Best practices of excavation management with the help of real time monitoring and control are also provided. Furthermore cost and time evaluation systems are analysed. Finally, contractual aspects related to construction by contract are investigated, for best development and application of models more appropriate for tunnelling-construction contracts. The work will be of interest to practising engineers, designers, consultants and students in mining, underground, tunnelling, transportation and construction engineering, as well as to foundation and geological engineers, urban planners/developers and architects.

Book Dynamics of Vehicle Road Coupled System

Download or read book Dynamics of Vehicle Road Coupled System written by Shaopu Yang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-04-29 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vehicle dynamics and road dynamics are usually considered to be two largely independent subjects. In vehicle dynamics, road surface roughness is generally regarded as random excitation of the vehicle, while in road dynamics, the vehicle is generally regarded as a moving load acting on the pavement. This book suggests a new research concept to integrate the vehicle and the road system with the help of a tire model, and establishes a cross-subject research framework dubbed vehicle-pavement coupled system dynamics. In this context, the dynamics of the vehicle, road and the vehicle-road coupled system are investigated by means of theoretical analysis, numerical simulations and field tests. This book will be a valuable resource for university professors, graduate students and engineers majoring in automotive design, mechanical engineering, highway engineering and other related areas. Shaopu Yang is a professor and deputy president of Shijiazhuang Tiedao University, China; Liqun Chen is a professor at Shanghai University, Shanghai, China; Shaohua Li is a professor at Shijiazhuang Tiedao University, China.

Book DIANA Computational Mechanics 94

Download or read book DIANA Computational Mechanics 94 written by Ger M.A. Kusters and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in computational mechanics can only be achieved on the basis of fruitful discussion between researchers and practising engineers. This has been achieved in the present publication, which contains all the papers presented at the first International DIANA Conference on Computational Mechanics. Nearly all papers show the results of calculations achieved with the DIANATM Finite Element System. Broadly, the book follows the line of research from the material level, via the element level, to the structural level. But it should be emphasised that much current research passes from one level to the other, and such an interaction is also reflected here. The following domains are treated: (hyper)elasticity, (visco)plasticity and cracking; (enriched) damaging continua models; material experiments vs. computational models; stochastic approaches; fluid--structure interactions; element technology; geometrical nonlinearity and structural instability; nonlinear dynamics; solution procedures.

Book Modeling and Design of Flexible Pavements and Materials

Download or read book Modeling and Design of Flexible Pavements and Materials written by Dallas N. Little and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-09-25 with total page 702 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook lays out the state of the art for modeling of asphalt concrete as the major structural component of flexible pavements. The text adopts a pedagogy in which a scientific approach, based on materials science and continuum mechanics, predicts the performance of any configuration of flexible roadways subjected to cyclic loadings. The authors incorporate state-of the-art computational mechanics to predict the evolution of material properties, stresses and strains, and roadway deterioration. Designed specifically for both students and practitioners, the book presents fundamentally complex concepts in a clear and concise way that aids the roadway design community to assimilate the tools for designing sustainable roadways using both traditional and innovative technologies.
