Book Non Christian Religions of the World

Download or read book Non Christian Religions of the World written by William Muir and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-16 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Non-Christian Religions of the World The progress of Islam was slow until Mahomet cast aside the precepts of toleration, and adopted an aggressive, militant policy. Then it became rapid. The motives which animated the armies of Islam were mixed - material and spiritual. Without the truths contained in the system, success would have been impossible, but neither without the sword would the religion have been planted in Arabia, nor beyond. The alternatives offered to conquered peoples were Islam, the Sword, or Tribute. The drawbacks and attractions of the system are examined. The former were not such as to deter men of the world from embracing the faith. The sexual indulgences sanctioned by it are such as to make Islam "the Easy way." The spread of Islam was stayed whenever military success was checked. The Faith was meant for Arabia and not for the world, hence it is constitutionally incapable of change or development The degradation of woman hinders the growth of freedom and civilization under it. Christianity is contrasted in the means used for its propagation, the methods it employed in grappling with and overcoming the evils that it found existing in the world, in the relations it established between the sexes, in its teaching with regard to the respective duties of the civil and spiritual powers, and, above all, in its redeeming character, and then the conclusion come to that Christianity is Divine in its origin. Download or read book Significant Others written by Monte Cox and published by ACU Press. This book was released on 2017-09-12 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A generation ago, most Americans had little or no contact with Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, or any other adherents of non- Christian religions. Now our culture is much more pluralistic. In addition to these “others,” many Westerners, disenchanted with Christianity, are more inclined than they were a generation ago to dabble in new spiritual alternatives that were not as readily available here before. Many Christians feel intimidated by these changes. Many Christians don’t know how to engage their newest non- Christian neighbors in conversation, partly because they feel ignorant about the religions practiced by others. Significant Others seeks to fill this knowledge gap so readers will become more acquainted with the religious backgrounds of devout non- Christians they are meeting, as well as with the growing number of American people who claim no religious affiliation at all. Each chapter outlines the major world religions according to their significant founders or leading figures, significant beliefs and practices, significant sects and developments, and significant points of contact and points of contrast with Christian faith.

Book Christianity and Non Christian Religions Compared

Download or read book Christianity and Non Christian Religions Compared written by Edward A. Marshall and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-24 with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Christianity and Non-Christian Religions Compared: Containing 800 Library References to Facilitate Further Study In this present age of seeming uncertainty in spiritual verities, and of exalting the heathen religions to the position of equality with Christianity, it becomes necessary that we examine their actual teachings and compare them with those of the Bible. This is made doubly necessary since the priests and pundits of some of the non-Christian religions have begun to visit England and America to promulgate their Oriental philosophy and metaphysics. Their listeners, not having a knowledge of the actual character of these systems, or of the saving grace of God in Christ, are sometimes caught by their subtle sophistry, and led, step by step, into very absurd beliefs. One of the most striking examples of this is seen in the transplanting of Hinduism into Christian lands, under the non de plume of Christian Science. The strongest and most satisfactory way of learning the relative value of the teachings of these various religious systems is to study them comparatively. This is an exceedingly difficult task, as it requires a large amount of time and patience to search through scores of volumes containing much that is tiresome and uninteresting. Then, too, it would doubtless be unwise for the average person to spend the money necessary to purchase the required number of books to get a comprehensive knowledge of these world religions. This volume endeavors to gather into brief paragraphs the teachings of the leading non-Christian religions, under about sixty fundamental topics. This enables the reader to secure within a few moments a general idea of what the people of the world believe on the most important moral and spiritual subjects connected with human life. A glance at the page of "Instructions" will assist the reader in getting the most help from the book. An effort has been made to give due credit to books from which quotations have been made. In the very wide research necessary through a large number of volumes, this may sometimes have been overlooked, for which the author offers due apology. Book World Religions

    Book Details:
  • Author : Charles Craig Lantz
  • Publisher : CreateSpace
  • Release : 2012-03-07
  • ISBN : 9781470154554
  • Pages : 76 pages

Download or read book World Religions written by Charles Craig Lantz and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2012-03-07 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This brief and concise handbook on "World Religions" will examine and survey the history and origins of seven non-Christian religions that are vastly different from Christianity in many ways. These religions that will be investigated include: Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Zoroastrianism, Sikhism, and Islam. There are many so-called “Christian” religions that exist in our world today, such as, The Jehovah Witnesses, Mormonism, Christian Science, The Way International, and the World-wide Church of God. In these so called “Christian” religions, Jesus is regarded as a central figure. The reason that this examination is necessary is that, in all of these seven non-Christian religions, Jesus Christ is NOT a central part of their teaching or doctrine. At most, as in Islam, Jesus is regarded as just a prophet, a good moral teacher, or as just another historical figure for most non-Christian religions. In light of this reason, we feel it is a worthy investigation to examine and survey these seven religions in which Christ has no special significant part to play. This concise study will examine the nature and origins of these seven world religions, their basic doctrines and beliefs, and will look at their historical roots, and the results of their impact upon the world. Also, we will examine “how” their central teachings and doctrines differ from historical Christianity. It is the authors hope that the reader will gain some new insights as to the religious nature of man, and see how the search for real meaning and true religion has manifested itself in many different forms throughout history. This handbook is a MUST READ for everyone seeking understanding of how Christianity is uniquely different from these other seven major world religions.
