Download or read book Rescue Your Retirement written by Russell K Jalbert and published by Advantage Media Group. This book was released on 2012-04-06 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "You don't have to accept risk in order to grow your money." What readers discover in this book is the woeful ineffectiveness of retirement planning as practiced by Wall Street and the brokerage industry. In place of this failed approach Jalbert offers the logic of financial tools provided by the insurance industry. These tools, though not well known in the marketplace, are many, varied and most often free of the risk associated with volatile markets. His mission is to design retirement plans that are as foolproof as possible, and making sure that a stable and predictable lifelong income is provided under any economic circumstances.

Book The Fair Value of Insurance Liabilities

Download or read book The Fair Value of Insurance Liabilities written by Irwin T. Vanderhoof and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores theoretical and practical implications of reflecting the fair value of liabilities for insurance companies. In addition, the contributions discuss the disclosure of these values to the financial and regulatory communities and auditing firms which are actually calculating this illusive but important variable. It combines contributions by distinguished practitioners from the insurance, accounting and finance fields, with those of prominent academics. One of the central themes of the collection is that adequate disclosure of the true economic value of insurance company liabilities is both possible and desirable. Wherever possible, the insurance valuation process is wedded with modern financial theory. For example, the use of option pricing theory is applied to insurance companies, where the true value of the firm's liabilities is a critical variable. Methods such as cash flow, earned profit and indirect discount are explored.

Book Underfunded Pensions Pension Dumping and Retirement Security

Download or read book Underfunded Pensions Pension Dumping and Retirement Security written by Peter Orszag and published by TheCapitol.Net Inc. This book was released on 2010-12-01 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA) provides a comprehensive federal scheme for the regulation of employee pension and welfare benefit plans offered by employers. ERISA contains various provisions intended to protect the rights of plan participants and beneficiaries in employee benefit plans. The Pension Benefit Guarantee Corporation (PBGC) is a federal corporation created by ERISA. It currently protects the pensions of nearly 44 million American workers and retirees in more than 29,000 private single-employer and multiemployer defined benefit pension plans. PBGC receives no funds from general tax revenues. Operations are financed by insurance premiums set by Congress and paid by sponsors of defined benefit plans, investment income, assets from pension plans trusteed by PBGC, and recoveries from the companies formerly responsible for the plans. Although the PBGC's liabilities are not explicitly backed by the full faith and credit of the federal government, Congress could face political pressure to bail out the PBGC at taxpayer expense should the agency become financially insolvent. Bradley Belt, former executive director of the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC), testified before Congress in October, 2004: "I am particularly concerned with the temptation, and indeed, growing tendency, to use the pension insurance fund as a means to obtain an interest-free and risk-free loan to enable companies to restructure. Unfortunately, the current calculation appears to be that shifting pension liabilities onto other premium payers or potentially taxpayers is the path of least resistance rather than a last resort."

Book Investment Industry Claims Debunked

Download or read book Investment Industry Claims Debunked written by Robert P. Kurshan and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is for people who want to know what to do with the money they save: so that it's there when they need it - to buy a home, pay for college, etc. - but also grows enough so they don't outlive it. The investment industry is fixated on the importance of maintaining a "balance" of stocks and bonds, shifting to more bonds as one ages. This book challenges this belief by arguing that what's actually important is to have just enough bonds and cash to support spending needs from a stable source, and to replenish these through the sale of stocks at propitious times when the stock market is not depressed. It features simple mathematical calculations, an explanation of basic financial objects like stocks, bonds, ladders, CDs, ETFs, or annuities, a discussion of how to evaluate financial risk, examinations of insurance, fraud deterrence, dollar cost averaging, benefits of a mortgage, risks of a pension, and general advice about healthcare. Although the book is written to be accessible to those with little or no prior knowledge of finance, the studies and conclusions presented here benefit a multitude of financial investors.
