For better comprehension, the detailed frequency chart/table of multiple emotions has been attached at the end of the book. You will feel ecstatic while summarizing your previously acquired knowledge. Are Emotions Negative or Positive? Emotions are the building blocks of human attitude and are inherently neutral in nature. There are no negative or positive emotions inherently; their effect on your body and experience is what can be considered negative or positive. Low-frequency emotions like jealousy, fear, or anxiety, often result in unpleasant feelings and can be associated with stress and discomfort when experienced. Sometimes, societal influences such as your mother or teacher may discourage the expression of emotions like anger, sadness, guilt, or shame because they believe these emotions might make you vulnerable to developing stressful situations within your body and can cause disruptive, disliked, or unacceptable behavior, thereby negatively impacting your mental and physical health. High-frequency emotions, on the other hand, such as ecstasy, awe, curiosity, joy, and authenticity, are generally associated with pleasant experiences and positive states of mind and body. These emotions contribute to overall well-being and are often encouraged as they foster a positive mental and physical state. Experiencing an Emotion: When you are going through any situation, you may feel tearful, fearful, angry, joyful, etc. Releasing an Emotion: When you want to heal from past unwanted experiences through self-healing, counseling, or therapy, you need to release the unresolved emotions that were causing internal conflict, irrespective of external circumstances. "Noble Emotions" emphasizes repairing your past, living in the now, and preparing for your future through integration and healing. Medical science, dealing with the body, itself has evolved from the metaphysical state. Farrukh explores the power of belief, illustrating how strong convictions can lead to miraculous healings of chronic conditions like bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, nail biting, aging effects, migraines, stomach ulcers, diabetes, insomnia, and more. His workshops, meditation techniques, manifestation of the Law of Attraction, the Law of Vibration, and the Law of Polarity, miracle prayers, and supplications showcase amazing healings from epilepsy, headaches, and stomachaches, where participants learn his model of personal transformation based on practical applications of a stronger belief system and living a disease-free life. How do you feel today? Is your heart fluttering in anticipation? Your stomach tight with nerves? Are you falling in love? Feeling a bit miffed? Do you have the heebie-jeebies? Book Between Us How Cultures Create Emotions

Download or read book Between Us How Cultures Create Emotions written by Batja Mesquita and published by W. W. Norton & Company. This book was released on 2022-07-19 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Behavioral Scientist Notable Book of the Year * One of KCRW’s Best Reads of the Year * A Next Big Idea Club Top 21 Psychology Book of the Year * One of Publishers Weekly’s Best Books of the Year A pioneer of cultural psychology argues that emotions are not innate, but made as we live our lives together. “How are you feeling today?” We may think of emotions as universal responses, felt inside, but in Between Us, acclaimed psychologist Batja Mesquita asks us to reconsider them through the lens of what they do in our relationships, both one-on-one and within larger social networks. From an outside-in perspective, readers will understand why pride in a Dutch context does not translate well to the same emotion in North Carolina, or why one’s anger at a boss does not mean the same as your anger at a partner in a close relationship. By looking outward at relationships at work, school, and home, we can better judge how our emotions will be understood, how they might change a situation, and how they change us. Brilliantly synthesizing original psychological studies and stories from peoples across time and geography, Between Us skillfully argues that acknowledging differences in emotions allows us to find common ground, humanizing and humbling us all for the better.

Download or read book Ugly Feelings written by Sianne Ngai and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2009-07-01 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Envy, irritation, paranoia—in contrast to powerful and dynamic negative emotions like anger, these non-cathartic states of feeling are associated with situations in which action is blocked or suspended. In her examination of the cultural forms to which these affects give rise, Sianne Ngai suggests that these minor and more politically ambiguous feelings become all the more suited for diagnosing the character of late modernity. Along with her inquiry into the aesthetics of unprestigious negative affects such as irritation, envy, and disgust, Ngai examines a racialized affect called “animatedness,” and a paradoxical synthesis of shock and boredom called “stuplimity.” She explores the politically equivocal work of these affective concepts in the cultural contexts where they seem most at stake, from academic feminist debates to the Harlem Renaissance, from late-twentieth-century American poetry to Hollywood film and network television. Through readings of Herman Melville, Nella Larsen, Sigmund Freud, Alfred Hitchcock, Gertrude Stein, Ralph Ellison, John Yau, and Bruce Andrews, among others, Ngai shows how art turns to ugly feelings as a site for interrogating its own suspended agency in the affirmative culture of a market society, where art is tolerated as essentially unthreatening. Ngai mobilizes the aesthetics of ugly feelings to investigate not only ideological and representational dilemmas in literature—with a particular focus on those inflected by gender and race—but also blind spots in contemporary literary and cultural criticism. Her work maps a major intersection of literary studies, media and cultural studies, feminist studies, and aesthetic theory.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mental well-being of children and adults is shockingly poor. Marc Brackett, author of Permission to Feel, knows why. And he knows what we can do. "We have a crisis on our hands, and its victims are our children." Marc Brackett is a professor in Yale University’s Child Study Center and founding director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. In his 25 years as an emotion scientist, he has developed a remarkably effective plan to improve the lives of children and adults – a blueprint for understanding our emotions and using them wisely so that they help, rather than hinder, our success and well-being. The core of his approach is a legacy from his childhood, from an astute uncle who gave him permission to feel. He was the first adult who managed to see Marc, listen to him, and recognize the suffering, bullying, and abuse he’d endured. And that was the beginning of Marc’s awareness that what he was going through was temporary. He wasn’t alone, he wasn’t stuck on a timeline, and he wasn’t “wrong” to feel scared, isolated, and angry. Now, best of all, he could do something about it. In the decades since, Marc has led large research teams and raised tens of millions of dollars to investigate the roots of emotional well-being. His prescription for healthy children (and their parents, teachers, and schools) is a system called RULER, a high-impact and fast-effect approach to understanding and mastering emotions that has already transformed the thousands of schools that have adopted it. RULER has been proven to reduce stress and burnout, improve school climate, and enhance academic achievement. This book is the culmination of Marc’s development of RULER and his way to share the strategies and skills with readers around the world. It is tested, and it works. This book combines rigor, science, passion and inspiration in equal parts. Too many children and adults are suffering; they are ashamed of their feelings and emotionally unskilled, but they don’t have to be. Marc Brackett’s life mission is to reverse this course, and this book can show you how.

Book How to Feel Better

Download or read book How to Feel Better written by Andrew Tener and published by Andrew Tener. This book was released on 2018-02-27 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do you feel as good as you want to? Even if you are happy, are you as happy as you want to be? If you want to feel better, this book is for you. Unlike other books which promise five things you should do to feel great or be successful, How To Feel Better directly addresses your emotions, why you have them, and how to improve them. Our emotions shape our lives. We constantly strive to do things that make us feel good. But trying to shape our external circumstances to change how we feel is indirect. To really feel better, you must look inside. You must have a dialogue with your emotions and come to understand them. Feeling great is within your reach if you are willing to examine your emotions. How To Feel Better will show you what your emotions really are. You will be able to understand and let go of the emotions holding you back. The book's power comes from four simple, but surprising, insights: 1. Your emotions are not always in line with reality. 2. Emotions can change. You can learn how to change your emotions. 3. You have emotions all the time, but you might not notice them. 4. By changing the emotions you have all the time, you can feel better every moment of every day. How To Feel Better walks you through these insights, building a conceptual understanding of emotions. From there, the book teaches you techniques to resolve painful emotions. These techniques can be applied proactively to achieve goals and improve your mood. The book is supplemented with videos and worksheets on the author's website, AndrewTener.com

Book excerpt: We’ve all been told that thinking rationally is the key to success. But at the cutting edge of science, researchers are discovering that feeling is every bit as important as thinking. You make hundreds of decisions every day, from what to eat for breakfast to how you should invest, and not one of those decisions would be possible without emotion. It has long been said that thinking and feeling are separate and opposing forces in our behavior. But as Leonard Mlodinow, the best-selling author of Subliminal, tells us, extraordinary advances in psychology and neuroscience have proven that emotions are as critical to our well-being as thinking. How can you connect better with others? How can you make sense of your frustration, fear, and anxiety? What can you do to live a happier life? The answers lie in understanding your emotions. Journeying from the labs of pioneering scientists to real-world scenarios that have flirted with disaster, Mlodinow shows us how our emotions can help, why they sometimes hurt, and what we can learn in both instances. Using deep insights into our evolution and biology, Mlodinow gives us the tools to understand our emotions better and to maximize their benefits. Told with his characteristic clarity and fascinating stories, Emotional explores the new science of feelings and offers us an essential guide to making the most of one of nature’s greatest gifts.
