This book was released on 2010-05-24 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No Pot, No Window is a true story about my life starting in the year 1951 when I was born in Marshall, Texas, to poor, uneducated parents. This book is intended to be a motivator and inspiration to all the people struggling to survive financially as I did for the majority of my life. The expression ?no pot, no window? means you are so poor that you don?t have a pot to pee in or a window to throw it out. I believe poverty, lack of education, a negative home environment, alcohol and/or drug abuse, bad judgment, a single parent home, disease/illness, and sometimes just plain bad luck keeps the syndrome of ?no pot, no window? perpetuating generation after generation. My abusive alcoholic father abandoned my two sisters and me when I was nine years old, and my codependent mother was absent from my life for many years. After my father left and my parents divorced, my mother spent the rest of her life looking for another husband to support her. She was married nine times and never did find her Prince Charming, just another drunk she met at a bar and dragged home. When I was ten years old, my mother sent my two sisters and me to live with her parents for over three years, and during this period she was completely absent from our lives. My maternal grandparents, who were survivors of the Great Depression of 1929, were very tight with their money and affection. They really did not want to raise three young children but decided we would be a valuable asset as farmhands on their five-acre farm. My mother came back into my life when I was thirteen years old and the saga of stepfathers began. At the age of sixteen, I had a job, a car, and was self-sufficient. Unfortunately, I was also a juvenile delinquent because I had little or no parental supervision. For lack of any other options, I joined the military in 1969, during the height of the Vietnam War, and began the long journey of becoming an adult. Due to my immaturity and poor judgment, I was married and divorced three times before the age of thirty and became a single parent to my only child. When I was thirty-two years old, I was diagnosed with Stage II breast cancer and spent the next five years struggling to stay alive physically and financially. With the assistance of the military, I was able to obtain my bachelor of arts degree from the University of Mississippi in 1982 and a masters of forensic science from George Washington University in 1986. After twenty-one years of active duty service, I subsequently retired as a lieutenant from the United States Navy in 1993. I refused to accept and was able to overcome the ?no pot, no window? plight because of my perseverance, hard work, and most importantly, advanced education. I changed my life from sour lemons to sweet lemonade!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: SUGAR IS TAKING OVER OUR LIVES. But why? And is it only those sweet, refined white crystals that are causing us problems, or could there be more to the story?Let's be honest: The problem isn't just sugar itself. It's the refined, nutrient-poor carbohydrates that carry tons of calories, but no real nutrition. In our world, these are the easiest foods to grab on the go, but they leave us fat, sick, tired, and downright unhappy. The effect that sugar, "hidden" carbs, and refined, processed foods have on our bodies goes far beyond our waistlines. We can't focus, we can't sleep, we have irrational mid-afternoon cravings, and we can't even make it through the day without wanting—or needing—to prop up our energy levels with caffeine or even more sugar! What can we do to break free from this cycle? The 21-Day Sugar Detox is here to help. The 21-Day Sugar Detox is a clear-cut, effective, whole-foods-based nutrition action plan that will reset your body and your habits! Tens of thousands of people have already used this groundbreaking guide to shatter the vicious sugar stronghold. Now it's your turn! Use the easy-to-follow meal plans and more than 90 simple recipes in this book to bust a lifetime of sugar and carb cravings in just three weeks. Three levels of the program make it approachable for anyone, whether you're starting from scratch or from a gluten-free, grain-free, and/or Paleo/primal lifestyle. The 21-Day Sugar Detox even includes special modifications for athletes (endurance, CrossFit, HIIT-style, and beyond), pregnant/nursing moms, pescetarians, and people with autoimmune conditions. What you'll experience on this program will be different from a lot of other "diet" programs out there that promote extremely restricted eating; encourage you to consume only shakes, juices, or smoothies; or rely heavily on supplements and very-low-calorie or very-low-fat diets to ensure success. The goal of any detox program should be to support your body in naturally cleansing itself of substances that create negative health effects—and that's exactly what The 21-Day Sugar Detox does. By focusing on quality protein, healthy fats, and good carbs, this program will help you change not only the foods you eat, but also your habits around food, and even the way your palate reacts to sweet foods. You'll likely complete the program and continue eating this way much of the time thereafter because you'll feel so amazing. After changing your everyday eating habits, you will begin to gain a new understanding of how food works in your body—and just how much nutrition affects your entire life. There's no reason to wait!

Download or read book Stepping Stones written by Marilea C. Rabasa and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2020-06-16 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Addiction is a stealth predator. Unrecognized, it will grow and flourish. Unchecked, it destroys. Marilea Rabasa grew up in post-WWII Massachusetts in a family that lived comfortably and offered her every advantage. But they were also haunted by closely guarded family secrets. Alcoholism reached back through several generations, and it was not openly discussed. Shame and stigma perpetuated the silence. And Marilea became part of this ongoing tragedy. From an unhappy childhood to a life overseas in the diplomatic service to now, living on an island in Puget Sound, Stepping Stones chronicles Marilea’s experiences, weaving a compelling tale of travel, motherhood, addiction, and heartbreaking loss. The constant thread throughout this story is the many faces and forms of addiction, phantoms that stalk her like an obsessed lover. What, if anything, will free her of the masks she has worn all her life? An inspiring, poignant recovery story, Stepping Stones tells how Marilea took on the demons that plagued her all her life—and defeated them.

Download or read book Let s Get Saucy written by Hannah Janish and published by Handeeman LLC. This book was released on 2018-11-07 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Hannah: This book has over 55 sauce recipes that will change your life. For real, they will take a so-so dish and make it gold, Baby! I think it’s fair to say that sauce is one of the most important parts of a dish. Sauce is what brings everything and everyone together. No one just sits around eating wings, fries or tater tots without something on top of them. Sauces make dishes far more interesting. You would feel lost without something to dip your waffle fries into. What would you do without honey mustard? Well… plant-based honey mustard. A trio of simple chip dips makes it seem like you put some serious effort into something, even if it took you 5 minutes to make. Congratulations you are now the MVP of Super Bowl Sunday! If it weren’t for you, your spouse and friends would be sitting around eating Fritos while simultaneously screaming and throwing stale popcorn at the TV. That might make it fun for you to watch, but their beer filled bellies will scream for more substance. With so many choices you’ll find lots of recipes that will become new staples for you and your family. Love, Hannah
