Book Nitrogen and Oxygen Absorption Cross sections in the Vacuum Ultra violet

Download or read book Nitrogen and Oxygen Absorption Cross sections in the Vacuum Ultra violet written by R. E. Huffman and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The total absorption cross-section (or coefficient) curves of nitrogen and oxygen recently measured in the 580-1050 A wavelength region using a Hopfield helium continuum background light source are discussed in relation to the absorption of solar radiation in the earth's upper atmosphere. Similar measurements using the hydrogen many-line spectrum background in the 13751450A region and the 1620-1640A region of the oxygen Schumann-Runge continuum are also described. A table listing cross-sections of nitrogen and oxygen at all of the important solar emission lines in the 580-1050A region is given. Measurements are compared with values given by others where possible. (Author).

Book Atmospheric Ultraviolet Remote Sensing

Download or read book Atmospheric Ultraviolet Remote Sensing written by Robert E. Huffman and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 1992-10-19 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an introduction to the use of the ultraviolet for remote sensing of the Earth's atmosphere. It covers the Earth's UV radiative environment, experimental techniques, and current applications. it is my intention to provide the information needed to "make a first approximation" concerning the use of the ultraviolet and to provide access through the literature for a more thorough study. * Contains recent UV applications not previously available in book form such as ozone, auroral images, and ionospheric sensing * Features broad coverage of fundamentals of atmospheric geophysics with values for fluxes, cross-sections, and radiances * Covers techniques that illustrate principles of measurements with typical values * Contains numerous references to original literature

Book Handbook of Geophysics and Space Environments

Download or read book Handbook of Geophysics and Space Environments written by Air Force Cambridge Research Laboratories (U.S.) and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 728 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook is a comprehensive collection of data, formulas, definitions, and theories concerning the natural environment. It was written by scientists of the Air Force Cambridge Research Laboratories (AFCRL) which, in 1976, became the Air Force Geophysics Laboratory (AFGL). It was designed to serve a broad spectrum of users: the planner, designer, developer, and operator of aerospace systems; the scientist who will find the tables and figures a convenient reference in his own field; the specialist who needs environmental data in another discipline; and science minded people who seek a summary of space-age environmental research. Revisions of individual chapters and sections of this handbook will be published as additional environmental research efforts pay off in new knowledge.

Book Measurements of Ultraviolet Absorption Cross Sections of NO2 at Various Pressures and Temperatures

Download or read book Measurements of Ultraviolet Absorption Cross Sections of NO2 at Various Pressures and Temperatures written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An account is given of progress towards the measurements of absolute, ultra violet cross sections of N02 during the ten-month period 10/1/93-7/31/94. The accomplishments include: (a) construction of an absorption cell; (b) construction of vacuum system; (c) the assembly of an optical system including focusing of a 6.65 m spectrograph; (d) obtaining high resolution photographic spectra of N02 in absorption; and (e) the first measurements of cross sections of N02 at 295 K. The high resolution absorption spectrum of N02 has been obtained from National Research Council of Canada. The high resolution cross sections of N02 at 295 K have been measured photoelectrically in the wavelength region 390-452 nm. No pressure dependency has been observed. The absolute cross section scale agrees with published values, but there are large wavelength shifts in earlier works.

Book The Formation of Ions in the Upper Atmosphere

Download or read book The Formation of Ions in the Upper Atmosphere written by Robert E. Huffman and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present state of our knowledge concerning the formation of positive and negative ions in the earth's normal ionosphere is reviewed. The main process by which positive ions and electrons are formed in the ionosphere is photoionization of neutral constituents by solar vacuum ultraviolet radiation. Negative ions are formed primarily by direct attachment of electrons to certain neutral constituents. Existing values of the cross sections and rate coefficients of these processes are presented and gaps in the present knowledge are discussed.
