Book excerpt: It is evening. Sarah and Nick are thinking about their dull day. Nothing happened, really... Well... Nick did stand on his hands, went for a swim and sat around for a bit - and Sarah caught a glimpse of a butterfly and went down a slide. But this is where the magic of children's imagination emerges - dreamily illustrated by Mark Janssen. For th e handstand was made on the head of a tiger. Nick took a rest on the nose of an enormous dragon and swam with colourful fish. And Sarah slid down an elephant's trunk and saw the butterfly while she was standing among some really cuddly bears. With Sarah a nd Nick, you slip back into the world where you also used to walk home with lions and sing higher than the brightly coloured tropical birds. A delightfully cheerful book that sparkles with fantasy and erases all boundaries between dream and daily reality. A must - have for every child - and for every parent who remembers being one.

Book My Body Given for You

    Book Details:
  • Author : Helmut Hoping
  • Publisher : Ignatius Press
  • Release : 2019
  • ISBN : 1621641899
  • Pages : 540 pages

Download or read book My Body Given for You written by Helmut Hoping and published by Ignatius Press. This book was released on 2019 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Eucharist originated at the Last Supper of Jesus with his disciples. It is based on the prayer of thanksgiving that Jesus pronounced over the bread and wine at that meal. “Eucharist” means “thanksgiving”, “praise”, and “blessing”. The Church celebrates the Eucharist as a memorial of the death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ, which is more than a remembrance of the Last Supper of Jesus with his disciples. In the Eucharist the sacrifice of our redemption becomes present sacramentally. In the past, dogmatic theology has treated the meaning of the Eucharist while disregarding the form of its liturgical celebration, whereas liturgical studies have been content with only the latter. Yet the two cannot be separated, any more than liturgy and dogma or pastoral practice and doctrine can be understood without the other. The Church’s liturgy is not something external to Christian revelation, but rather, as Joseph Ratzinger said, “revelation accepted in faith and prayer”. In this work Helmut Hoping combines the approaches of dogmatic theology and liturgy while examining the Eucharist from a historical and systematic perspective. This new English translation of the second German edition of this major work, revised and expanded, includes a comparative analysis of the Second Eucharistic Prayer and a chapter on the theology of the words of institution.

Book Too High to Fail

Download or read book Too High to Fail written by Doug Fine and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2012-08-02 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first in-depth look at the burgeoning legal cannabis industry and how the “new green economy” is shaping our country The nation’s economy is in trouble, but there’s one cash crop that has the potential to turn it around: cannabis (also known as marijuana and hemp). According to Time, the legal medicinal cannabis economy already generates $200 million annually in taxable proceeds from a mere two hundred thousand registered medical users in just fourteen states. But, thanks to Nixon and the War on Drugs, cannabis is still synonymous with heroin on the federal level even though it has won mainstream acceptance nationwide. ABC News reports that underground cannabis’s $35.8 billion annual revenues already exceed the combined value of corn ($23.3 billion) and wheat ($7.5 billion). Considering the economic impact of Prohibition—and its repeal—Too High to Fail isn’t a commune-dweller’s utopian rant, it’s an objectively (if humorously) reported account of how one plant can drastically change the shape of our country, culturally, politically, and economically. Too High to Fail covers everything from a brief history of hemp to an insider’s perspective on a growing season in Mendocino County, where cannabis drives 80 percent of the economy (to the tune of $6 billion annually). Investigative journalist Doug Fine follows one plant from seed to patient in the first American county to fully legalize and regulate cannabis farming. He profiles an issue of critical importance to lawmakers, media pundits, and ordinary Americans—whether or not they inhale. It’s a wild ride that includes swooping helicopters, college tuitions paid with cash, cannabis-friendly sheriffs, and never-before-gained access to the world of the emerging legitimate, taxpaying “ganjaprenneur.”

Book On Christ and Antichrist

  • Author : St. Hippolytus
  • Publisher : Dalcassian Publishing Company

Download or read book On Christ and Antichrist written by St. Hippolytus and published by Dalcassian Publishing Company. This book was released on 2019-11-02 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hippolytus of Rome (170–235) was the most important 3rd-century theologian in the Christian Church in Rome, where he was probably born. Photios I of Constantinople describes him in his Bibliotheca (cod. 121) as a disciple of Irenaeus, who was said to be a disciple of Polycarp, and from the context of this passage it is supposed that he suggested that Hippolytus himself so styled himself. However, this assertion is doubtful. He came into conflict with the popes of his time and seems to have headed a schismatic group as a rival Bishop of Rome. For that reason he is sometimes considered the first antipope. He opposed the Roman bishops who softened the penitential system to accommodate the large number of new pagan converts. However, he was very probably reconciled to the Church when he died as a martyr. Starting in the 4th century, various legends arose about him, identifying him as a priest of the Novatianist schism or as a soldier converted by Saint Lawrence. He has also been confused with another martyr of the same name. Ironically, it is Pius IV who identifies him as "Saint Hippolytus, Bishop of Pontus" who was martyred in the reign of Alexander Severus through his inscription on a statue found at the Church of St. Lawrence in Rome and kept at the Vatican as photographed and published in Brunsen.

Will they ever be able to afford to retire? How will they maximize their happiness? Security? Health? And ultimately, their own legacies? A plan is conceived and unfurls with each turn of the tide during one sweltering summer on the Isle of Palms.
