  • Pages : 280 pages

Download or read book Newtonian Dynamics written by Richard Fitzpatrick and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-12-22 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook provides a comprehensive review of Newtonian dynamics at a level suitable for undergraduate physics students. It demonstrates that Newton’s three laws of motion, combined with a few simple force laws, can not only describe the motions of everyday objects observed on the surface of the Earth, but can also account for the motions of celestial objects seen in the sky. It helps bridge the problematic transition between elementary physics courses and upper-division physics course. The book will start off at a level suitable for undergraduate (freshman) physics students and will very gradually increase, until, towards the end, it will approach (but not quite reach) a level characteristic of a graduate (senior) physics course. Each chapter of the book will end with a large number of numerical and analytical exercises and, in all appropriate cases, the final answers to the exercises will be specified. The large number of exercises will allow students to accurately test their understanding of the material presented in the book, ideal for students who are self-studying or are taking classes remotely. Key features: Provides a brief and accessible introduction to a complex topic. Contains a thorough treatment of the motions of heavenly bodies than conventional elementary mechanics texts. Provides a wealth of end-of-chapter exercises to test understanding.

Download or read book The Key to Newton s Dynamics written by J. Bruce Brackenridge and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 1996-02-29 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While much has been written on the ramifications of Newton's dynamics, until now the details of Newton's solution were available only to the physics expert. The Key to Newton's Dynamics clearly explains the surprisingly simple analytical structure that underlies the determination of the force necessary to maintain ideal planetary motion. J. Bruce Brackenridge sets the problem in historical and conceptual perspective, showing the physicist's debt to the works of both Descartes and Galileo. He tracks Newton's work on the Kepler problem from its early stages at Cambridge before 1669, through the revival of his interest ten years later, to its fruition in the first three sections of the first edition of the Principia.

This book was released on 2021-10-23 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Owing to the increased accuracy requirements in fields such as astrometry and geodesy the general theory of relativity must be taken into account for any mission requiring highly accurate orbit information and for practically all observation and measurement techniques. This book highlights the confluence of Applied Mathematics, Physics and Space Science as seen from Einstein's general theory of relativity and aims to bridge the gap between theoretical and applied domains. The book investigates three distinct areas of general relativity: Exact solutions of the Einstein field equations of gravitation. Dynamics of near-Earth objects and solar system bodies. Relativistic orbitography. This book is an updated and expanded version of the author’s PhD thesis which was awarded the International Astronomical Union PhD prize in Division A: Fundamental Astronomy. Included is a new introduction aimed at graduate students of General Relativity and extended discussions and results on topics in post-Newtonian dynamics and general relativistic spacecraft propagation.

Book Elements of Newtonian Mechanics

Download or read book Elements of Newtonian Mechanics written by Jens M. Knudsen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the second edition, a number of misprints that appeared in the first edition have been corrected. In addition to this, we have made improvements based on the experience gathered in the use of the first English edition of the book in the introductory course in physics at the University of Copenhagen. A chapter introducing nonlinear dynamics has been added. The purpose of this chapter is to provide supplementary reading for the students who are interested in this area of active research, where Newtonian mechanics plays an essential role. The students who wish to dig deeper, should consult texts dedicated to the study of nonlinear dynamical systems and chaos. The literature list at the end of this book contains several references for the topic. The book still contains a one-semester (15 weeks) first university course on Newtonian mechanics. This necessarily introduces some constraints on the choice of topics and the level of mathematical sophistication expected from the reader. If one looks for discussions of technical issues, such as the physics behind various manifestations of friction, or the tensorial nature of the rotation vector, one will look in vain. The book contains what we feel are the essential aspects of Newtonian Mechanics. It is a pleasure again to thank Springer-Verlag and in particular Dr. H. J. KOisch and the staff at the Heidelberg office for helpfulness and professional collaboration.

Book Advanced Engineering Dynamics

Download or read book Advanced Engineering Dynamics written by H. Harrison and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 1997-08-01 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Advanced Engineering Dynamics' bridges the gap between elementary dynamics and advanced specialist applications in engineering. It begins with a reappraisal of Newtonian principles before expanding into analytical dynamics typified by the methods of Lagrange and by Hamilton's Principle and rigid body dynamics. Four distinct vehicle types (satellites, rockets, aircraft and cars) are examined highlighting different aspects of dynamics in each case. Emphasis is placed on impact and one dimensional wave propagation before extending the study into three dimensions. Robotics is then looked at in detail, forging a link between conventional dynamics and the highly specialised and distinctive approach used in robotics. The text finishes with an excursion into the Special Theory of Relativity mainly to define the boundaries of Newtonian Dynamics but also to re-appraise the fundamental definitions. Through its examination of specialist applications highlighting the many different aspects of dynamics this text provides an excellent insight into advanced systems without restricting itself to a particular discipline. The result is essential reading for all those requiring a general understanding of the more advanced aspects of engineering dynamics.

Book Revising Fiction Fact and Faith

Download or read book Revising Fiction Fact and Faith written by Nathaniel Goldberg and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-07-01 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses how our revisionary practices account for relations between texts and how they are read. It offers an overarching philosophy of revision concerning works of fiction, fact, and faith, revealing unexpected insights about the philosophy of language, the metaphysics of fact and fiction, and the history and philosophy of science and religion. Using the novels of J.R.R. Tolkien as exemplars, the authors introduce a fundamental distinction between the purely physical and the linguistic aspects of texts. They then demonstrate how two competing theories of reference—descriptivism and referentialism—are instead constitutive of a single semantic account needed to explain all kinds of revision. The authors also propose their own metaphysical foundations of fiction and fact. The next part of the book brings the authors’ philosophy of revision into dialogue with Thomas Kuhn’s famous analysis of factual, and specifically scientific, change. It also discusses a complex episode in the history of paleontology, demonstrating how scientific and popular texts can diverge over time. Finally, the authors expand their philosophy of revision to religious texts, arguing that, rather than being distinct, such texts are always read as other kinds, that faith tends to be more important as evidence for religious texts than for others, and that the latter explains why religious communities tend to have remarkable historical longevity. Revising Fiction, Fact, and Faith offers a unique and comprehensive account of the philosophy of revision. It will be of interest to a wide range of scholars and advanced students working in philosophy of language, metaphysics, philosophy of literature, literary theory and criticism, and history and philosophy of science and religion.
