Book A Research Guide to the Ancient World

Download or read book A Research Guide to the Ancient World written by John M. Weeks and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2014-11-25 with total page 455 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The archaeological study of the ancient world has become increasingly popular in recent years. A Research Guide to the Ancient World: Print and Electronic Sources, is a partially annotated bibliography. The study of the ancient world is usually, although not exclusively, considered a branch of the humanities, including archaeology, art history, languages, literature, philosophy, and related cultural disciplines which consider the ancient cultures of the Mediterranean world, and adjacent Egypt and southwestern Asia. Chronologically the ancient world would extend from the beginning of the Bronze Age of ancient Greece (ca. 1000 BCE) to the fall of the Western Roman Empire (ca. 500 CE). This book will close the traditional subject gap between the humanities (Classical World; Egyptology) and the social sciences (anthropological archaeology; Near East) in the study of the ancient world. This book is uniquely the only bibliographic resource available for such holistic coverage. The volume consists of 17 chapters and seven appendixes, arranged according to the traditional types of library research materials (bibliographies, dictionaries, atlases, etc.). The appendixes are mostly subject specific, including graduate programs in ancient studies, reports from significant archaeological sites, numismatics, and paleography and writing systems. These extensive author and subject indexes help facilitate ease of use.

Book News from the Lands of the Hittites

Download or read book News from the Lands of the Hittites written by Stefano De Martino and published by Mimesis. This book was released on 2018-06-08T00:00:00+02:00 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new electronic journal was conceived to offer to colleagues and younger researchers a periodical publication specifically devoted to the Hittite culture and preclassical Anatolian civilizations. News from the Land of the Hittites aims to collect and publish philological, archaeological and historical essays, with the ambition of encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration among all scholars who either are active in Anatolia as archaeologists, or deal with ancient Anatolian documents. We are firmly convinced that only a continuous dialogue among philologists, archaeologists and historians will lead us to improve our knowledge of the preclassical cultures of Anatolia. At the same time, we are aware that Anatolia was a part of the greater ancient Near Eastern world and this journal will always be open to interdisciplinary works among experts of the different regions of the Near East and the Mediterranean area. We invite and encourage younger scholars and doctoral students to publish the results of their research in our journal; the choice of an electronic publication has the advantage of shortening the time usually required by a printed scientific journal between acceptance and publication. The scientific board comprises researchers from different parts of the world, such as Turkey, USA, Great Britain, Germany and Italy. This is fully consonant with the esprit of Hittitology, which is an international discipline. All the submitted manuscripts must be approved by the members of the scientific board and are also peer-reviewed by external experts, prior to acceptance for publication in the journal. This process assures the high quality of the essays and is required by the Italian evaluation system of scientific research. This journal will succeed only if you, our colleagues, doctorate students and collaborators work together with us and we thank you from now for your support.

Book Dictionary of Bibliographic Abbreviations Found in the Scholarship of Classical Studies and Related Disciplines

Download or read book Dictionary of Bibliographic Abbreviations Found in the Scholarship of Classical Studies and Related Disciplines written by Jean S. Wellington and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2003-08-30 with total page 704 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trying to identify abbreviated titles of journals and standard bibliographic works is a major difficulty facing researchers and librarians in the field of Classical Studies. This revised edition has been greatly expanded, with nearly twice the abbreviations (17,000) and bibliographic entries (12,400) as the first edition. Also, the Greek and Cyrillic abbreviations have increased by seven and four fold respectively. Abbreviations for internet sites are now included, as are those for associations in the broad area of Classical Studies. There are also more entries for Eastern European and regional archaeological publications. This revised volume is divided into two parts. Part One consists of an alphabetical listing of bibliographic abbreviations found in the scholarship of classical studies and related disciplines. Meanwhile, Part Two is an alphabetically arranged bibliographic descriptions for the works published in classical studies and related disciplines. Special efforts were made to increase the coverage in peripheral areas, making this new edition a useful reference tool for scholars in all subjects of study in the ancient and medieval world.
