Some letters refer to the conditions on board emigrant vessels, charges for steerage, valuations of their freights and the over-loading of them. Several letters discuss land orders and allotments of lands in New Zealand to be sold, noting the market value of such, and prospective purchasers. The emigration of unmarried women is also a common theme of these letters, with many discussing orders of linen being transported to make clothing for them and conjecturing as to the sorts of employment they might find in the colonies. There are passenger lists of emigrants on board various ships, but also lists of emigrants remaining at British depots following the departure of vessels. There are printed enclosures referring to the business of the West England Board of the New Zealand Company and listing in tables sections of town lands to be sold in New Plymouth by their numerical references. One printed pamphlet, "Information Regarding New Zealand", sets out detailed information relative to the locations, climate, geology and trade points. There is also a printed copy of the Company's "Summary of Regulations for Free Emigration" and comparative statement setting out the differing amount of wages and provisions in England and New Zealand.
