Book Development of Improved Separators for Alkaline Zinc Batteries

Download or read book Development of Improved Separators for Alkaline Zinc Batteries written by W. A. Parkhurst and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report is a summary of the development of separator materials for rechargeable alkaline zinc batteries over a seven year period. It summarizes studies performed during the earlier years of polyphenylquinoxaline (PPQ) polymer blends as separator materials. The expense of large scale production and the marginal improvement demonstrated for PPQ blends over existing cellulose based separator materials led to redirection of the work. The current limited effort in the development of nickel coated separator materials is described. Because of a lack of funding, the characterization of nickel coated separator materials was not completed. Further characterization, testing and evaluation of the feasibility of such electrically conductive separator film materials is recommended.

Book Zinc Batteries

Download or read book Zinc Batteries written by Rajender Boddula and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-05-05 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Battery technology is constantly changing, and the concepts and applications of these changes are rapidly becoming increasingly more important as more and more industries and individuals continue to make “greener” choices in their energy sources. As global dependence on fossil fuels slowly wanes, there is a heavier and heavier importance placed on cleaner power sources and methods for storing and transporting that power. Battery technology is a huge part of this global energy revolution. Zinc batteries are an advantageous choice over lithium-based batteries, which have dominated the market for years in multiple areas, most specifically in electric vehicles and other battery-powered devices. Zinc is the fourth most abundant metal in the world, which is influential in its lower cost, making it a very attractive material for use in batteries. Zinc-based batteries have been around since the 1930s, but only now are they taking center stage in the energy, automotive, and other industries. Zinc Batteries: Basics, Developments, and Applicationsis intended as a discussion of the different zinc batteries for energy storage applications. It also provides an in-depth description of various energy storage materials for Zinc (Zn) batteries. This book is an invaluable reference guide for electrochemists, chemical engineers, students, faculty, and R&D professionals in energy storage science, material science, and renewable energy.

Book Sealed Nickel Zinc Rechargeable Batteries

Download or read book Sealed Nickel Zinc Rechargeable Batteries written by Allen Charkey and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 59 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of the investigation is to develop a high energy density nickel-zinc battery that can operate in a sealed condition with no maintenance throughout its life. Inorganic separator materials fabricated from layer hydroxide and layer silicate materials were studied. They showed excellent resistance to zinc penetration compared to cellulosic separators on accelerated overcharge tests. Capacity maintenance data obtained indicate superior life for cells with layer hydroxide separators. Other studies concerned cells constructed with silver amalgam recombination electrodes and active carbon recombination electrodes.

Book Characteristics of Conventional Design Nickel Zinc Batteries for Hybrid Vehicle Operation

Download or read book Characteristics of Conventional Design Nickel Zinc Batteries for Hybrid Vehicle Operation written by Martin J. Sulkes and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: -4058(*STORAGE BATTERIES, RELIABILITY(ELECTRONICS)), (*VEHICLES, STORAGE BATTERIES), NICKEL, ZINC, HEAT, DESIGN, BATTERY SEPARATORS*ZINC CELLS, *NICKEL ZINC CELLS, *HYBRID VEHICULAR PROPULSIONPreliminary evaluations have been conducted on conventional 35 Ah nickel-zinc batteries for hybrid electric vehicle service. On a pulse type of service, adequate recharge is obtained by constant potential charging at 1.85 V/cell. Discharge voltages of approximately 1.7 V/cell are obtained at a 55 A load. Cycling data are reported for a total 3,300 Ah output (5% of total requirement) and includes discharge voltages at 55 and 350 A, and charge input. Heat generation during cycling for conventional cells is approximately 13 Btu/h/cell. Improved cells should generate approximagely 1/2 as much heat. (Author).

Book Lithium Ion Batteries Basics and Applications

Download or read book Lithium Ion Batteries Basics and Applications written by Reiner Korthauer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-08-07 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The handbook focuses on a complete outline of lithium-ion batteries. Just before starting with an exposition of the fundamentals of this system, the book gives a short explanation of the newest cell generation. The most important elements are described as negative / positive electrode materials, electrolytes, seals and separators. The battery disconnect unit and the battery management system are important parts of modern lithium-ion batteries. An economical, faultless and efficient battery production is a must today and is represented with one chapter in the handbook. Cross-cutting issues like electrical, chemical, functional safety are further topics. Last but not least standards and transportation themes are the final chapters of the handbook. The different topics of the handbook provide a good knowledge base not only for those working daily on electrochemical energy storage, but also to scientists, engineers and students concerned in modern battery systems.
