Book Search for New Physics Beyond the Standard Model at BaBar

Download or read book Search for New Physics Beyond the Standard Model at BaBar written by and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A review of selected recent BaBar results are presented that illustrate the ability of the experiment to search for physics beyond the standard model. The decays B → [tau][nu] and B → s[gamma] provide constraints on the mass of a charged Higgs. Searches for Lepton Flavour Violation could provide a clear signal for beyond the standard model physics. Babar does not observe any signal for New Physics with the current dataset.

Book Light Higgs And Dark Photon Searches at BABAR

Download or read book Light Higgs And Dark Photon Searches at BABAR written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Several new-physics (NP) models predict the existence of low-mass Higgs states and light dark matter candidates. Previous BABAR searches have given null results for these new states and have excluded large regions of the NP models parameter space. We report on new searches on light Higgs and light dark matter at BABAR using the 516 fb-1 of data collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory.

Download or read book New Physics In B Decays written by Sheldon Stone and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2022-04-07 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Standard Model (SM) of particle physics has withstood thus far every attempt by experimentalists to show that it does not describe data. We discuss the SM in some detail, focusing on the mechanism of fermion mixing, which represents one of its most intriguing aspects. We discuss how this mechanism can be tested in b-quark decays, and how b decays can be used to extract information on physics beyond the SM. We review experimental techniques in b physics, focusing on recent results and highlighting future prospects. Particular attention is devoted to recent results from b decays into a hadron, a lepton and an anti-lepton, that show discrepancies with the SM predictions — the so-called B-physics anomalies — whose statistical significance has been increasing steadily. We discuss these experiments in a detailed manner, and also provide theoretical interpretation of these results in terms of physics beyond the SM.

Book The Physics of the B Factories

Download or read book The Physics of the B Factories written by Adrian Bevan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-03-23 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive work thoroughly introduces and reviews the set of results from Belle and BaBar - after more than two decades of independent and complementary work - all the way from the detectors and the analysis tools used, up to the physics results, and the interpretation of these results. The world’s two giant B Factory collaborations, Belle at KEK and BaBar at SLAC, have successfully completed their main mission to discover and quantify CP violation in the decays of B mesons. CP violation is a necessary requirement to distinguish unambiguously between matter and antimatter. The shared primary objective of the two B Factory experiments was to determine the shape of the so-called unitarity triangle, an abstract triangle representing interactions of quarks, the elementary constituents of matter. The area of the triangle is a measure of the amount of CP violation associated with the weak force. Many other measurements have been performed by the B Factories and are also discussed in this work.

Book Searching for New Physics in b sl l Transitions at the LHCb Experiment

Download or read book Searching for New Physics in b sl l Transitions at the LHCb Experiment written by Luca Pescatore and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-10-04 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis presents two analyses of semileptonic b → sl+l− decays using Flavour Changing Neutral Currents (FCNCs) to test for the presence of new physics and lepton flavour universality, and the equality of couplings for different leptons, which on the basis of experimental evidence is assumed to hold in the Standard Model, free from uncertainties as a result of knowledge of the hadronic matrix elements. It also includes the angular analysis of Lambda_b->Lambda mumu decay and the RK* measurement, both of which are first measurements, not yet performed by any other experiment.

Book Search for New Spin 0 Particles Near pi 0 Mass Produced in Association with tau Pairs at BABAR

Download or read book Search for New Spin 0 Particles Near pi 0 Mass Produced in Association with tau Pairs at BABAR written by Alexandre Beaulieu and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research project searches for new physics in the t sector that would resolve the tension between BABAR measurement for the pion-photon transition form factor F?0(Q2) and the standard model asymptotic prediction. This behaviour could be explained by a new light pseudo-scalar state that mixes with the ?0 and enhances its coupling to the c and b quarks or the t lepton, or by a new spin-0 particle with mass very close to the ?0. We examine one channel to test for existence of such objects: their creation in association with t pairs in e+e- collisions. The analysis uses a typical cut-based approach as the large predicted cross-sections and the kinematics of the final states allow for a direct selection of signal events and background suppression. Current simulation studies predict a 90% CL limit on the production cross-section on the order of 100 fb in case of no signal, while the theory predicts production cross-sections on the order of 1 pb to 100 pb depending on the model.

Book Searches for New Physics in CP Violation from BaBar

Download or read book Searches for New Physics in CP Violation from BaBar written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results of recent searches for new physics in CP violation in charm decays from the BABAR experiment are presented. These results include a measurement of D0 - anti D0 mixing and searches for CP violation in two-body D0 decays, a search for CP violation in the charm decays D" 2!KS0K " and D s" 2!KS0K", KS0[pi]", and a search for direct CP violation in the singly-Cabibbo suppressed D" 2!K+K-[pi]"decays. These studies are based on the fi nal dataset collected by BABAR at the PEP-II B factory at SLAC in the period 1999-2008. No evidence of CP violation is found in these charm decays. The measured mixing parameter yCP = [0.72 " 0.18(stat) " 0.12(syst)]% excludes the no-mixing null hypothesis with a signifi cance of 3.3[sigma].

Book Recent Searches for Exotic Physics at the BaBar PEP II B factory

Download or read book Recent Searches for Exotic Physics at the BaBar PEP II B factory written by and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I present three recent results from searches for exotic physics at the BABAR/PEP-II B-factory. These results span many of the samples produced at the B-factory, including B mesons,? leptons, and?(3S) mesons. We have searched for CPT-violation in B° mixing and find no significant deviation from the no-violation hypothesis. We have also searched for lepton-flavor-violating decays of the? using?− 2!?l− and?− 2!l−ll− and their charge conjugates. We find no evidence for these processes and set upper limits on their branching fractions. Finally, we have searched for a low-mass Higgs boson in the decay?(3S) 2!?A°, where the Higgs decays invisibly. We find no evidence for such a decay and set upper limits across a range of possible Higgs masses.

Book Flavor Physics and the TeV Scale

Download or read book Flavor Physics and the TeV Scale written by George W. S. Hou and published by Springer. This book was released on 2009-06-10 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ?avor sector carries the largest number of parameters in the Standard Model of particle physics. With no evident symmetry principle behind its existence, it is not as well understood as the SU(3)×SU(2)×U(1) gauge interactions. Yet it tends to be underrated, sometimes even ignored, by the erudite. This is especially so on the verge of the LHC era, where the exploration of the physics of electroweak symmetry breaking at the high energy frontier would soon be the main thrust of the ?eld. Yet, the question of “Who ordered the muon?” by I. I. Rabi lingers. We do not understand why there is “family” (or generation) replication. That three generations are needed to have CP violation is a partial answer. We do not understand why there are only three generations, but Nature insists on (just about) only three active neutrinos. But then the CP violation with three generations fall far short of what is needed to generate the baryon asymmetry of the Universe. We do not understand why most fermions are so light on the weak symmetry breaking scale (v. e. v. ), yet the third-generation top quark is a v. e. v. scale particle. We do not understand why quarks and leptons look so different, in particular, why neutrinos are rather close to being massless, but then have (at least two) near maximal mixing angles. We shall not, however, concern ourselves with the neutrino sector. It has a life of its own.

Book A Search for the Decay of a B Meson Into a Kaon and a Tau Lepton Pair at the BaBar Experiment

Download or read book A Search for the Decay of a B Meson Into a Kaon and a Tau Lepton Pair at the BaBar Experiment written by and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The flavour changing neutral current (FCNC) process, $B^+$ → $K^+ [tau]^+ [tau]^-$ highly suppressed in the Standard Model (SM). This decay is forbidden at tree level and only occurs at lowest order via one-loop diagrams.$B^+$ → $K^+ [tau]^+ [tau]^-$ thus has the potential to provide a stringent test of the SM and a fertile ground for new physics searches. Contributions due to virtual particles in the loop allow one to probe, at relatively low energies, new physics at large mass scales. We search for the rare FCNC process $B^+$ → $K^+ [tau]^+ [tau]^-$ using data collected by the BaBaR detector at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. The BaBaR data sample corresponds to a total integrated luminosity, at the energy of the [Tau](4S) resonance, of 424.4 $fb^-1$ and 471 million $B\bar{B}$ pairs. For this search, hadronic $B_{tag}$ reconstruction is employed, where one B is exclusively reconstructed via one of many possible hadronic modes. The remaining decay products in an event are then attributed to the signal B, on which the search for $B^+$ → $K^+ [tau]^+ [tau]^-$ is performed. Each [tau] is required to decay leptonically, into either an electron or a muon and the lepton neutrinos. Furthermore, a multi-variate analysis technique (neural network) is used to select for signal events and suppress dominant background modes. No significant signal is observed. The resulting branching fraction is measured to be $\beta(B^+$ → $K^+ [tau]^+)$ = $1.31^{0:66}_{-0:61}$(stat.) $^{+0:35}_{-0:25}$(sys.) x 10$^{-3}$, which is consistent with zero at the 1.9[sigma] level, with an upper limit of 2.25 x 10$^{-3}$, at the 90% confidence level.
