Book Perspectives of Management Accounting for Sustainable Business Practices

Download or read book Perspectives of Management Accounting for Sustainable Business Practices written by Oncioiu, Ionica and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2022-06-30 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 21st century, management accounting gains new dimensions, expanding its research area. Additionally, management of sustainable performance is one of the phenomena faced by the current business environment, and in particular management corporations. The focus of management on profitability remains the main objective of any company, but it must also take into account the sustainability of social, economic, and environmental aspects. Under these circumstances, managerial decisions must be adjusted and strongly substantiated considering the information required by internal and external stakeholders including financial reporting. The information requirements of customers and other stakeholders are steadily increasing, and some companies face certain problems in implementing the concept of sustainability and environmental reporting. Perspectives of Management Accounting for Sustainable Business Practices proposes an interdisciplinary perspective and explores various theoretical and practical approaches to management accounting and its impact in the 21st century on different areas of activity. It contrasts external financial accounting for government regulators and the investment community with internal management accounting for managers to leverage decision making. Covering topics such as corporate social responsibility, disclosure issues, and performance analysis, this premier reference source is an essential resource for business leaders and executives, accountants, financial controllers, business analysts, budgeting managers, students and faculty of higher education, librarians, researchers, and academicians.

Book Management Accounting Research in Practice

Download or read book Management Accounting Research in Practice written by Petri Suomala and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-02-13 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many scholars have claimed that management accounting research has lost its pragmatic relevancy and interventionist research has been proposed as one way to produce theories with increased practical implications. In interventionist research, active participation in the field is regarded as an asset rather than a liability. Despite the methodological debate on interventionist research, there is lack of empirical studies on how interventionist research actually helps to produce theories with such pragmatic relevance. The lack of empirical studies has, perhaps, resulted in a too narrow connotation to the research approach. This book attempts to shed light on the various nuances of interventionist research and the positions a researcher can occupy when trying to produce contributions associated with both theoretical and pragmatic relevance. This book is based on various research projects focusing on different aspects of management accounting during the past ten years. To spice up the academic debate, the book also provides managerial perspectives on interventionist management accounting research with interesting new insights. In addition to management accounting, the ideas of interventionist research can also be applied in other management fields.

Book Only Trends Matter

Download or read book Only Trends Matter written by David Willcox and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Only Trends Matter - A step change in management accounting This is not just a book for accountants; it is directed to all managers in all types of organization, commercial, public, charitable or social, that receive regular profit and loss or income and expenditure statements otherwise known as management accounts. They are the most ubiquitous financial report used in the world today. The author is not an academic and all managers, whatever their discipline should be able to relate to it. Although the author was originally a management accountant he spent the majority of his career in general management so has experienced management accounts from both perspectives. As a CEO he recognized that much time was being wasted at board meetings discussing history, prompted by the management accounts and this instigated his research to find a way of transforming management accounts into a modern day and invaluable management tool. There is a dearth of publications addressing the presentation and format of financial information despite the fact that unless it is comprehensible it is of little use as a management report. Some good managers admit that they find numerous columns of numbers difficult to understand and many don't admit it at all. It appears to be a subject that accountants give limited consideration to, and it is staggering that despite monumental changes in business technology the format and content of management accounts has changed little over 50 years or more. The book reveals that management accounts are commonly criticised by managers for being too little, too late to help them manage their day to day activities but criticism of management accounting techniques is not new, Johnson and Kaplan in their renowned book "Relevance Lost: The Rise and Fall of Management Accounting," 1987, could not have phrased it better. "Today's management accounting information, driven by the procedures and cycle of the organization's financial reporting system, is too late, too aggregated, and too distorted to be relevant for managers' planning and control decisions." Whenever presented, management accounts are out of date, they erroneously compare actual performance with a budget which becomes increasingly irrelevant as the financial year progresses, they cumulatively cover a different time period each time they're presented, they fail to consider differing numbers of days in each accounting period so there is no consistency and they take no account of seasonality, they also fail to consider the consequences of what happened in the previous financial year or what is likely to happen in future. This book sets out a system that addresses and solves all these problems with management accounts. If you are persuaded that the system can be of value to you then the book can be used as a practical, detailed guide to its implementation and use in your organization.

Book New Perspectives on Human Resource Management Routledge Revivals

Download or read book New Perspectives on Human Resource Management Routledge Revivals written by John Storey and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-11-13 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea of human resource management has become topical and controversial. The term suggests that people in any organization are an asset to be upgraded and fully utilized rather than merely a variable cost to be minimized. This in turn implies that the way in which people are managed is a matter of crucial strategic concern. Increased international competition has produced various initiatives world-wide for new approaches to management, in particular human resource management. This searching set of interpretations, first published in 1983, will be of interest to serious practitioners and students alike.

Book Current Topics in Management

Download or read book Current Topics in Management written by M. Afzalur Rahim and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume thirteen in Current Topics in Management is focused on global perspectives on strategy, behavior, and performance. Originally presented at the 2008 ICAM (International Conference on Advances in Management) conference, these contributions provide a substantial basis for such thematic developments. Th e series continues to resist pressures for specialized research on narrow topics within some temporary niche. It transcends narrow disciplines and national boundaries to provide management research with a universalistic fl avor. There are thousands of books and hundreds of academic and practitioner journals and magazines about the general subject of management. Each has its own subculture and concerns. The thirteenth volume of Current Topics is devoted to expanding and integrating ideas, research, and experiences that cuts across these specialties. Th e editor recognizes that it is important to respect the natural interdependencies that constitute management, but doing so requires the fi eld to rise above narrow specialization and niche research. For an outstanding vision of the frontiers of management research and emerging topics such as the sub-prime crisis and recession this volume is an excellent place to begin. Among other topics, the volume highlights the economic roots of management--the increase in visibility and perceived importance of accounting in the banking sector and how accounting is signifi cant beyond its technical roles. It provides new insights into how management accounting practices, along with other organizational systems, play an important role in questioning, visualizing, analyzing, and measuring implemented strategies. It understands accounting's important infl uence on strategic decision-making, and its role in legitimating action. Cumulatively, these contributions integrate theory, research, and practice, while sharing ideas and insights from diff erent national, cultural, and research traditions.
