Book excerpt: Excerpt from New Measures of the Great Pyramid That which immediately follows is a reprint of the first two pages of the first edition of my book, "Our Inheritance in the Great Pyramid," published in 1864; and is the best explanation I can offer now for the formal issue of the present dissertation, or review - written at particular request. "Author of 'The Great Pyramid: Why was it Built and Who Built It?' (in reference to which Lord Neaves, vice-president, in the chair, at the Royal Society, Edinburgh, on the evening of March 21, 1864, said: - 'If these things are only coincidences, they are most extraordinary coincidences; but if they are facts - that is, if the metrical proportions indicated were designedly and purposely established, they form the most remarkable discovery of the age'), this attempt to follow out some of his (J. T.'s)arguments, and to test the truth that is in them, is dedicated by the friend of his latter years and admirer of his true and earnest life. Book The Shape of the Great Pyramid

Download or read book The Shape of the Great Pyramid written by Roger Herz-Fischler and published by Wilfrid Laurier Univ. Press. This book was released on 2009-10-21 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who has not seen a picture of the Great Pyramid of Egypt, massive in size but deceptively simple in shape, and not wondered how that shape was determined? Starting in the late eighteenth century, eleven main theories were proposed to explain the shape of the Great Pyramid. Even though some of these theories are well known, there has never been a detailed examination of their origins and dissemination. Twenty years of research using original and difficult-to-obtain source material has allowed Roger Herz-Fischler to piece together the intriguing story of these theories. Archaeological evidence and ancient Egyptian mathematical texts are discussed in order to place the theories in their proper historical context. The theories themselves are examined, not as abstract mathematical discourses, but as writings by individual authors, both well known and obscure, who were influenced by the intellectual and social climate of their time. Among results discussed are the close links of some of the pyramid theories with other theories, such as the theory of evolution, as well as the relationship between the pyramid theories and the struggle against the introduction of the metric system. Of special note is the chapter examining how some theories spread whereas others were rejected. This book has been written to be accessible to a wide audience, yet four appendixes, detailed endnotes and an exhaustive bibliography provide specialists with the references expected in a scholarly work.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Application of the Mosaic System of Chronology in the Elucidation of Mysteries Pertaining to the "Bible in Stone" Known as the Great Pyramid of Egypt The years of the six creative days are derived from an historical ray running through the Book of Judges; but, although strongly indicated, they cannot be accepted as established until supported by one or more independent lines of chronology covering the same epochs yet the total years of these periods have been approximated, and thereby substantiated, from numerous scriptural allegories otherwise given. Download or read book The Great Pyramid Jeezeh written by Louis Phillipe McCarty and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-26 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Great Pyramid Jeezeh "It was built for an Initiatory Asylum, and Depository of Weights and Measures, by a race of people that preceded our race, or any of the races now in existence, on the face of the earth. And that over 50,000 years have elapsed since its erection. The race of people that built the first pyramid were swept away by the Last Cataclysm. "In the building of this 'First Great Wonder of the World' they exhibited a knowledge so much superior to the wisest of our present population that a comparison can scarcely be made between the extremes of intelligence and ignorance on the face of our globe today. Nor will we attain as a race to their standard of scientific knowledge until such time has elapsed as will equal the past genealogy of this lost race, which was mo certainly thousands of years." There is Only One Pyramid "All others are mere imitations, the erection of which any ordinary mechanic could superintend." The Measurements of the Great Pyramid, as used in this work, are corroborated by the eminent authors of the past on Egyptology and pyramidal building. To prove the Theories indulged in, nearly all the sciences of today are treated at some length in this work; Mathematics, Weights and Measures, and Astronomy alone occupying over 150 pages. A new Theory for Earthquakes is appended, together with a complete list of all principal earth disturbances (such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and tidal waves) from the Christian Era down to date. Under the Astronomical section a new theory for the sun's heat is offered, and corroborative evidence induced to prove that the sun is cold and covered with snow, the sequel for the cause of "sun spots." This history connects the Sphinx with the Great Pyramid. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
