Book excerpt: In the past two decades, the New York-New Jersey-Connecticut region has prospered into one of the world's leading economies. But the benefits of this economic resurgence have been uneven, leaving many behind and resulting in problems that could curtail the region's future prosperity. The Regional Plan Association's Fourth Regional Plan is an ambitious assessment that reviews the most persistent problems and provides a guide to correcting them. Topics discussed include a crisis of housing affordability, overburdened and deteriorating infrastructure, vulnerability to climate change, and a pervasive distrust in government. The plan offers solutions including how to bring nearly two million jobs to the region by 2040, while promoting shared prosperity, well-being and sustainability across the region. The Fourth Regional Plan continues the Regional Plan Association's tradition of providing concrete ideas for improving the tri-state region. Highlights include radically restructuring the MTA and Port Authority to support creation of a modernized and expanded subway and regional rail network; significantly increasing the availability of housing; and expanding the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative to fund climate change initiatives. This highly visual, comprehensive plan will help elected officials, policymakers, and advocates guide any region to a more equitable, sustainable, healthy, and prosperous future.

Book Planning Sustainable Cities and Regions

Download or read book Planning Sustainable Cities and Regions written by Karen Chapple and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-09-15 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As global warming advances, regions around the world are engaging in revolutionary sustainability planning - but with social equity as an afterthought. California is at the cutting edge of this movement, not only because its regulations actively reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but also because its pioneering environmental regulation, market innovation, and Left Coast politics show how to blend the "three Es" of sustainability--environment, economy, and equity. Planning Sustainable Cities and Regions is the first book to explain what this grand experiment tells us about the most just path moving forward for cities and regions across the globe. The book offers chapters about neighbourhoods, the economy, and poverty, using stories from practice to help solve puzzles posed by academic research. Based on the most recent demographic and economic trends, it overturns conventional ideas about how to build more livable places and vibrant economies that offer opportunity to all. This thought-provoking book provides a framework to deal with the new inequities created by the movement for more livable - and expensive - cities, so that our best plans for sustainability are promoting more equitable development as well. This book will appeal to students of urban studies, urban planning and sustainability as well as policymakers, planning practitioners, and sustainability advocates around the world.

Book Regional Marketing and the Strategic Market Planning Approach to Attract Business and Industry Case Study

Download or read book Regional Marketing and the Strategic Market Planning Approach to Attract Business and Industry Case Study written by Franz Kero and published by diplom.de. This book was released on 2002-12-09 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: This thesis describes and evaluates how regional marketing, based on the ideas of Philip Kotler s Marketing Places (1993), can be a reasonable tool to attract business locators into economic regions. The thesis concentrates on strategic market planning of local economic development programs. It is presented how to make use of local competitive advantages by useful bundling of incentives. The notion of marketing and governing places is combined and shall offer the reader a new perspective of meeting regional economic objectives for places. This thesis is divided into two parts: a theoretical part (where industrial incentives are presented and Kotler s concept is explained and criticized) and an empirical part (where regional marketing is applied and tested for effectiveness). First, it will be defined what regional marketing is and what forms of incentives are considered. Then it will be presented how marketing strategies can be organized in a local environment, followed by a discussion how companies make location decisions. In the last chapter of the first part, a critical discussion of the regional marketing approach is presented. In the second part, an emphasis will be put on the case study; a location (Orange County, California, USA) where economic development based on marketing planning came to work. With a view to the situation and implications analyzed in the case study, it will be tried to scrutinize effectiveness and usefulness of economic development programs based on regional marketing principles for this place in question and in general. Book Advanced Studies in Efficient Environmental Design and City Planning

Download or read book Advanced Studies in Efficient Environmental Design and City Planning written by Ferdinando Trapani and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-09-24 with total page 635 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explains how learning from past mistakes in urban design can help to enhance sustainable cities and how the principles of Green Urbanism can yield more resilient urban settlements. Environmental design is a fundamental principle in shaping cities. However, environmental challenges like increased resource consumption, water degradation and waste-related issues are among the greatest problems now facing humanity – which is why these issues need to be considered with regard to “smart cities,” either for the development of new urban centers or for the transformation of existing cities. The book not only discusses the importance of integrating sustainability principles in the urban design process, but also demonstrates their application to the development of sustainable cities. As such, the book offers essential information and a source of inspiration for all those who want to build more sustainable cities.

Book The Imperatives of Urban and Regional Planning

Download or read book The Imperatives of Urban and Regional Planning written by Anis Ur Rahmaan and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011 with total page 796 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is comprised of articles and papers that have come about after years of academic and applied research endeavors of the practitioners and academicians in the field of urban and regional development planning. Most of these articles have already been presented and deliberated in national and international conferences held in different parts of the world, namely: Indianapolis, Newcastle upon Tyne, Rome, Istanbul, Cairo, Alexandria, Vienna, Stockholm, Jeddah, Riyadh, Jubail, Islamabad, Penang, and Bandung. The concepts and case studies described in this book bring home the fact that the world is undergoing a gyrational transition. Not only are developed and developing countries getting influenced by each other and transforming due to a process of circular causation, but each of the two sets of countries are also undergoing a simultaneous internal transformation due to the differential infusion of technology and indigenous entrepreneurship. As a consequence, highly diversified urban systems are getting integrated interactively, leading to the formation of a global village and achievement of a unity in diversity!
