Book New Directions in Religious Education

Download or read book New Directions in Religious Education written by John Hull and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-12-14 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1982. This book brings together some of the most influential articles which had moulded British religious education. The articles are divided into specialised sections dealing with various aspects of the subject so that the main developments are clearly indicated. The first section of the book deals with research into the religious psychology of childhood. This is followed by two collections of articles dealing with the search for a philosophy of religious education and with the problems created for the teaching of religion in Britain by our pluralist society. The fourth section deals with the problems of designing a curriculum in religious education, while the final part gives some examples of methods in the teaching of religion. The book thus provides, both the general reader, the student teacher and the specialist religious education teacher, an easily accessible collection of many of the materials which had created British religious education.

Book New Directions in Third Wave Human Computer Interaction Volume 2 Methodologies

Download or read book New Directions in Third Wave Human Computer Interaction Volume 2 Methodologies written by Michael Filimowicz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-06-27 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first extensive compilation documenting contemporary third wave HCI, covering key methodological developments at the leading edge of human-computer interactions. Now in its second decade as a major current of HCI research, the third wave integrates insights from the humanities and social sciences to emphasize human dimensions beyond workplace efficiency or cognitive capacities. Where the earliest HCI work has been strongly based on the concept of human-machine coupling, which expanded to workplace collaboration as computers came into mainstream professional use, today HCI can connect to almost any human experience because there are new applications for every aspect of daily life. Volume 2 - Methodologies covers methodological approaches grounded in autoethnography, empathy-based design, crowdsourcing, psychometrics, user engagement, speculative design, somatics, embodied cognition, peripheral practices and transdisciplinarity.

Book Handbook of Attitudes Volume 2 Applications

Download or read book Handbook of Attitudes Volume 2 Applications written by Dolores Albarracin and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-10-10 with total page 610 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Attitudes are evaluations of people, places, things, and ideas. They help us to navigate through a complex world. They provide guidance for decisions about which products to buy, how to travel to work, or where to go on vacation. They color our perceptions of others. Carefully crafted interventions can change attitudes and behavior. Yet attitudes, beliefs, and behavior are often formed and changed in casual social exchanges. The mere perception that other people—say, rich people— favor something may be sufficient to make another person favor it. People’s own actions also influence their attitudes, such that they adjust to be more supportive of the actions. People’s belief systems even change to align with and support their preferences, which at its extreme is a form of denial for which people lack awareness. These two volumes of The Handbook of Attitudes provide authoritative, critical surveys of theory and research about attitudes, beliefs, persuasion, and behavior from key authors in these areas. This second volume covers applications to measurement, behavior prediction, and interventions in the areas of cancer, HIV, substance use, diet, and exercise, as well as in politics, intergroup relations, aggression, migrations, advertising, accounting, education, and the environment.

Book Attitudes and Related Psychosocial Constructs

Download or read book Attitudes and Related Psychosocial Constructs written by Lewis Aiken and published by SAGE Publications. This book was released on 2002-02-12 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I would find this book a tempting alternative to my current text for two reasons: its coverage of more recent research and theorizing... and its focus on applications of attitude measurement and survey research to a number of very important practical issues." — RICHARD HARRIS, University of New Mexico Attitudes have a major impact on behavior and one′s ability to manage and adapt to change while also influencing the behavior of others. This text provides a compact but comprehensive research-oriented treatment of attitudes and related psychosocial constructs (values, opinions, beliefs, and personal orientations). It focuses on the meaning, measurement, and utility of attitudes in various applied settings, such as education or the workplace. The topics explored include social and personal matters such as prejudice and discrimination, illness and disability, death and dying, poverty and unemployment, conflict and violence, schools and teachers, work and retirement, and politics, religion, and morality. The book will prove valuable to both students and professionals who find themselves involved with measuring, evaluating, and modifying attitudes.

Book Sociolinguistics Soziolinguistik Volume 2

Download or read book Sociolinguistics Soziolinguistik Volume 2 written by Ulrich Ammon and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2008-07-14 with total page 907 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the publication of the first edition of the handbook Sociolinguistics/Soziolinguistik , the then young discipline has changed and developed considerably. The field has left behind its status as an interdiscipline between sociology and linguistics and is now a worldwide established field. Sociolinguistics continues to contribute to solving practical problems in areas such as language planning and standardization, language policy, as well as in language didactics and speech therapy. Moreover, new topics and areas of application have arisen from the autonomy of the discipline - these have been systematically and extensively included in the second edition of the handbook. The new overall concept depicts the regional and disciplinary representativity of sociolinguistic research while offering an encyclopedia-like useablitiy for all its readers. This includes theoretical depth and stringency for readers interested in theory, as well as methodical abundance and detail for empirical researchers. The descriptions of methods are so informative and precise that they can directly be used in the preparation of project planning. Similarly, the descriptions in the practice-oriented articles are so precise that users can accurately assess to what extent they can expect a certain sociolinguistic approach to help solve their problems. With an extensive description as its goal, the second edition of the handbook Sociolinguistics/Soziolinguistik takes into account the current standing of the discipline and the modified structure of the field.

Book Education and Racism

Download or read book Education and Racism written by Louk Hagendoorn and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-12-12 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1999, this book gives an inventory of factors contributing to ethnic prejudice in seven countries and the role of formal education among them on the basis of national surveys. It appears that education is crucial in all the countries surveyed and contributes to more tolerant views of ethnic and national minorities in Western European countries, Poland and the United States. The positive effects of education, however, do not always counter the negative effects of personality characteristics and conservative values on ethnic prejudice. Moreover, the negative effects of less formal education may be reinforced by perceived economical competition of ethnic minorities and thereby further bolster prejudiced views of the less educated. This indicates that formal education alone is not sufficient to change prejudiced views. Other forms of socialization transmitting values leading to open-mindedness and the ability to secure one's economic position have to support the positive effects of formal education as well.

Book The Parental Experience in Midlife

Download or read book The Parental Experience in Midlife written by Carol D. Ryff and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 1996 with total page 700 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most adults experience parenthood. But the longest period of the parental experience—when children grow into adolescence and young adulthood and parents themselves are not yet elderly—is the least understood. In this groundbreaking volume, distinguished scholars from anthropology, demography, economics, psychology, social work, and sociology explore the uncharted years of midlife parenthood. The authors employ a rich array of theory and methods to address how the parental experience affects the health, well-being, and development of individuals. Collectively, they look at the time when parents watch offspring grow into adulthood and begin to establish adult-to-adult relationships with their children. With a strong emphasis on the diversity of midlife parenting, including sociodemographic variations and specific parent or child characteristics such as single parenting or raising a child with a disability, this volume presents for the first time the complex factors that influence the quality of the midlife parenting experience.
