Glamour in Glass continues following the lives of beloved main characters Jane and Vincent, with a much deeper vein of drama and intrigue. In the tumultuous months after Napoleon abdicates his throne, Jane and Vincent go to Belgium for their honeymoon. While there, the deposed emperor escapes his exile in Elba, throwing the continent into turmoil. With no easy way back to England, Jane and Vincent's concerns turn from enjoying their honeymoon...to escaping it. Book Sound Sense and Rhythm

Download or read book Sound Sense and Rhythm written by Mark W. Edwards and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2009-01-10 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book concerns the way we read--or rather, imagine we are listening to--ancient Greek and Latin poetry. Through clear and penetrating analysis Mark Edwards shows how an understanding of the effects of word order and meter is vital for appreciating the meaning of classical poetry, composed for listening audiences. The first of four chapters examines Homer's emphasis of certain words by their positioning; a passage from the Iliad is analyzed, and a poem of Tennyson illustrates English parallels. The second considers Homer's techniques of disguising the break in the narrative when changing a scene's location or characters, to maintain his audience's attention. In the third we learn, partly through an English translation matching the rhythm, how Aeschylus chose and adapted meters to arouse listeners' emotions. The final chapter examines how Latin poets, particularly Propertius, infused their language with ambiguities and multiple meanings. An appendix examines the use of classical meters by twentieth-century American and English poets. Based on the author's Martin Classical Lectures at Oberlin College in 1998, this book will enrich the appreciation of classicists and their students for the immense possibilities of the languages they read, translate, and teach. Since the Greek and Latin quotations are translated into English, it will also be welcomed by non-classicists as an aid to understanding the enormous influence of ancient Greek and Latin poetry on modern Western literature.

This book was released on 2014-05 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Crabapple Blossoms" draws you into the warm rhythms of Georgia farm life as the Depression came and went. Grace Smith and Sue Hunter skillfully capture the sounds and sights of tobacco cultivation and harvest, games children played using only their imaginations, humorous interactions with family and friends, country church services and funerals for pets. the sisters' account of a time at Berry College illustrates the unique nature of the school where sewing and tractor driving could be part of earning tuition--of a place where young people from farm families could learn skills and earn degrees that would open a new world to them. the stories of teaching school vividly present the problems in the days of few standards, a front row seat for what racial integration meant and some frank--and sometimes sardonic--observations of the often illogical curriculum reforms that will be familiar to anyone who taught or sat in a classroom during the last half century. "In 'Crabapple Blossoms,' Grace Smith and Sue Hunter bring the world of girlhood days on a Georgia tobacco farm, college days at Berry and teaching careers to life. with humor, honesty and style, they tell a unique story--one that captures the changing South in context of school, church and family." --W. Download or read book New Beginnings written by Faith Bonyak and published by Strategic Book Publishing. This book was released on 2012-03-01 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New Beginnings: A Bipolar's Journey to Regain Her God-Given Identity presents a bird's-eye view of the author's life. Faith Bonyak penned this memoir over a seven-year period as an overview of her life dealing with bipolar and borderline personality disorder, before there was a name for it. The first part of the book is about all the different identities I lived under to help myself deal with the issues I was undergoing. The final part is the journey to my New Beginning. It is all the things I've learned along the way to help me see what God really had planned for me. Faith's story was written to help others overcome what she has experienced. I wanted to show others that you can lead a normal life and have this disorder. I want to be open and honest about how this disorder affects me on a daily basis and how I make my marriage and parenting work, even with the limitations it provides to me. Once again, I want to show others like me that they're not alone! I've been in their shoes when I've been manic. I understand the physical pain the cycle of depression brings. This is not something to be ashamed of, and it's something that can be treated if they let themselves get the help that is out there.
