Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nevermore is a dark, historical fantasy filled with romance, southern charm, and all the trappings of a classic historical romance. Walking the line between the occult, the paranormal, and the reality of 1800s life in The Great Dismal Swamp, Nevermore is also chock full of action and adventure. Follow Edgar Allan Poe and Lenore into The Great Dismal Swamp and experience one version of the birth of Poe's famous poem, "The Raven." On the banks of Lake Drummond, on the edge of The Great Dismal Swamp, there is a tree in the shape of a woman. One dark, moonlit night, two artists met at The Lake Drummond Hotel, built directly on the borderline of North Carolina and Virginia. One was a young woman with the ability to see spirits trapped in trees and stone, anchored to the earth beyond their years. Her gift was to draw them, and then to set them free. The other was a dark man, haunted by dreams and visions that brought him stories of sadness and pain, and trapped in a life between the powers he sensed all around him, and a mundane existence attended by failure. They were Eleanore MacReady, Lenore, to her friends, and a young poet named Edgar Allan Poe, who traveled with a crow that was his secret, and almost constant companion, a bird named Grimm for the talented brothers of fairy-tale fame. Their meeting drew them together in vision, and legend, and pitted their strange powers and quick minds against the depths of the Dismal Swamp itself, ancient legends, and time. Once, upon a shoreline dreary, there was a tree. This is her story. AUTHOR'S NOTE: This novel is a direct spin-off from "Kali's Tale," the fourth book in the DeChance Chronicles - initially it was going to be the prologue to book V - but is now a fully separated, stand-alone work - though the stories tie together, and are all one big story - as novels, over time, tend to become. Book One, "Heart of a Dragon," is only .99 and books 2-4 are now available in a single omnibus edition. If you enjoy Nevermore, you may find The DeChance Chronicles to your liking. Book V - "A Midnight Dreary," will be available in 2015 and draws directly on elements of Nevermore.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Random, Illinois, not much has changed in the last century. Things there move more slowly than they do in the city. At times, history seems to be moving in reverse. That’s how it seems; some folks would say that’s how it is. For Jason, Frank, Ronnie and Lizzy, there are bits and pieces of the past that won’t go away. Not in the daylight world, and not in their dreams. They shared a secret, a bond of silence and guilt. They shared the memory of an old woman’s dry, crackling voice, the heat and sizzling terror of flames beyond their control, and the mesmerizing image of a handful of bones. Roll Them Bones is a story of closure. It is a twisting, twining mystery that refuses to make sense, bringing four children who’d grown apart in adulthood back for one last chapter. Halloween Past—Halloween present—and who’s to say which is more real? Her eyes Haunt them. Her voice follows them through their nightmares. The flames lick up from below with the slow promise of destruction. "For an evil heart, no deed atones, to know the future? Roll them bones…"
Download or read book The Poet Edgar Allan Poe written by Jerome McGann and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2014-10-13 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The poetry of Edgar Allan Poe has had a rough ride in America, as Emerson’s sneering quip about “The Jingle Man” testifies. That these poems have never lacked a popular audience has been a persistent annoyance in academic and literary circles; that they attracted the admiration of innovative poetic masters in Europe and especially France—notably Baudelaire, Mallarmé, and Valéry—has been further cause for embarrassment. Jerome McGann offers a bold reassessment of Poe’s achievement, arguing that he belongs with Whitman and Dickinson as a foundational American poet and cultural presence. Not all American commentators have agreed with Emerson’s dim view of Poe’s verse. For McGann, a notable exception is William Carlos Williams, who said that the American poetic imagination made its first appearance in Poe’s work. The Poet Edgar Allan Poe explains what Williams and European admirers saw in Poe, how they understood his poetics, and why his poetry had such a decisive influence on Modern and Post-Modern art and writing. McGann contends that Poe was the first poet to demonstrate how the creative imagination could escape its inheritance of Romantic attitudes and conventions, and why an escape was desirable. The ethical and political significance of Poe’s work follows from what the poet takes as his great subject: the reader. The Poet Edgar Allan Poe takes its own readers on a spirited tour through a wide range of Poe’s verse as well as the critical and theoretical writings in which he laid out his arresting ideas about poetry and poetics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nevermore ** contemporary romance meets Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven" ** Love and loss. Passion and pain. I've always been a fan of Edgar Allan Poe because his work epitomized how one can be driven mad by the truth and freedom of those emotions. So, when I needed to put the finishing touches on my doctoral research on Poe, I returned to my hometown of Richmond, VA-a place Poe also considered home. In truth, I could've gone anywhere. But Jackson Parker was back in Richmond. Best friends since we were twelve, JP was my support system. Separated by life but connected by technology, our relationship always had a flirty undercurrent, but it wasn't sexual. Although our attraction was mutual, our affection was platonic. Until it wasn't. I didn't know when it happened. I didn't know why it happened. I didn't know how it happened. But love and loss, passion and pain collided in September and when I found the truth in the madness, that set me free.
