Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this prize-winning Iranian novel, a spoiled and foul-mouthed young woman looks to get high while her family and city fall to pieces. What do you do when the world is falling apart and you’re in withdrawal? Disillusioned, wealthy, and addicted to opium, Shadi wakes up one day to apocalyptic earthquakes and a dangerously low stash. Outside, Tehran is crumbling: yuppies flee in bumper-to-bumper traffic as skaters and pretty boys rise up to claim the city as theirs. Cross-dressed to evade hijab laws, Shadi flits between her dysfunctional family and depressed friends—all in search of her next fix. Mahsa Mohebali's groundbreaking novel about Iranian counterculture is a satirical portrait of the disaster that is contemporary life. Weaving together gritty vernacular and cinematic prose, In Case of Emergency takes a darkly humorous, scathing look at the authoritarian state, global capitalism, and the gender binary.

Book I Never Wanted to Be a Princess Good Thing or How I Lost 380 Pounds without Diet or Exercise

Download or read book I Never Wanted to Be a Princess Good Thing or How I Lost 380 Pounds without Diet or Exercise written by C.R. Rae and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2018-08-14 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In I Never Wanted to Be a Princess - Good Thing or How I lost 380 Pounds without Diet or Exercise, the events are true life experiences, including the issues with the chocolate syrup can. It is a love story, in a sense, sometimes sad, sometimes angry, more times humorous, with a little sarcasm and inspiration thrown in for good measure. The intent-to inspire others to keep up the good fight. Punching a forty-pound long bag helps. We all have storms in our lives, and many have had more "him-a-canes" and "her-a-canes" than me, but with perseverance, you can turn the page on a new chapter of your life. Even when things go . . . not so much as planned. My situation is not uncommon but is one of the hardest things I have dealt with. Writing this book has given me the insight and desire to go on and want a better life and "find myself" as they say. By doing so, I have gained a healthier, happier, and more successful life. I managed to get through life's trials and tribulations, even when I ran out of chocolate chips. A sense of humor helps to get through. I prefer jeans and a T-shirt over formal attire but can clean up when needed. I think tomboys have more fun. I can't really judge because I have never been a princess and, most likely, never will be. I begin a diet on Monday and usually quit Monday night or early Tuesday. I rather laugh than cry. I have a deep faith and not going to second-guess that there is a man or woman above that helps us through life with our best interests at heart. I did have a painful weight loss. Tipping the scales broke my heart, but this is not a diet book. Seeing me, you would know I am not a diet expert. From these pages, I hope you are encouraged, get plenty of laughs, and gain a deeper understanding of what it is like to sit on the cold hard toilet seat of life.

Everything had changed, and staying away was no longer an option. Four and a half years later, I was a widowed single father still here, still trying to pick up the pieces. We were doing just fine on our own, my little girl and me.At least, we were until Camryn Parker stumbled into our lives. The woman was like a tornado after a hurricane; she was the storm I never saw approaching. Behind her beauty and sarcastic wit, she was just as broken as I pretended not to be. As hard as I tried to resist, it was impossible not to fall in love with her.In the end, it took nearly losing it all for me to realize everything I never wanted was exactly what I needed.

Book I Never Wanted To Be Gay but does anyone

Download or read book I Never Wanted To Be Gay but does anyone written by Al Walz and published by Dorrance Publishing. This book was released on 2023-11-15 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About the Book In I never wanted to be gay... (but does anyone?), Al Walz shares thoughts, poems, and free-form essays in his autobiographical journey of his coming out process and accepting his sexuality. Hoping to connect with others who also were or are conflicted, thinking he’d be always considered a minority, Walz found his own way to deal with this new information, knowing each of us will also meander at our own pace, during this period. Walz taps into his aggression, anger, sadness, hopelessness, and strength with humor, wit, sarcasm, and creative expression (poetry, diatribes, stories) of his own life experiences, which helped him stay sane, positive, hopeful, and optimistic. His views may be outdated (from 1992-98), and shouldn’t be taken out of context. He knows how troublesome it can be for one to come to terms with something that feels like it may detour your life, send you in a downward spiral, and have you thinking you may never be happy, content, or joyful with day to day existing. In 2023, Walz thinks our world has come closer to being onboard with the idea that being gay is not a choice and doesn't define who you are. It’s one aspect of our being, and honestly, sometimes, now, he feels like it’s been a blessing (not a curse). “It’s opened myself up to accepting and embracing other marginalized groups, sharing in the “big picture” that we're all just humans, trying to cohabitate freely and openly, while we’re on this planet, for just our own brief time.” About the Author Al Walz resides in southern California, where he continues to work on exploring and expanding his artistic endeavors—visual, abstract, mixed-media pieces, singing, and writing.
