Download or read book Methods of Experimental Physics written by M. I. Pergament and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2014-10-23 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on the modern approach of information theory, this book presents novel experimental techniques, tools, and data processing methods for physics applications. It shows readers how to plan and conduct experiments, design and certify measuring equipment, and process and interpret the experimental data. Drawing on his extensive experience in experimental research, the author discusses the theory of systems for measuring and recording data, the equipment and methods used for studying fast processes, the basic methods of experimental physics, and the methods for interpretation and data processing. Bringing together approaches that have previously been scattered in the literature, the book covers high-speed photography, Fourier optics, spectroscopy, interferometry, holography, electromagnetic waves, X-rays, and corpuscular investigation.
Download or read book Nuclear Fusion by Inertial Confinement written by Guillermo Velarde and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-11-25 with total page 784 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nuclear Fusion by Inertial Confinement provides a comprehensive analysis of directly driven inertial confinement fusion. All important aspects of the process are covered, including scientific considerations that support the concept, lasers and particle beams as drivers, target fabrication, analytical and numerical calculations, and materials and engineering considerations. Authors from Australia, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, Spain, and the U.S. have contributed to the volume, making it an internationally significant work for all scientists working in the Inertial Confinement Fusion (ICF) field, as well as for graduate students in engineering and physics with interest in ICF.

Download or read book Burning Plasma Diagnostics written by Francesco P. Orsitto and published by American Institute of Physics. This book was released on 2008-03-28 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ITER (the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor, a joint venture between Europe, Japan, Russia, USA, China, India and South Korea) will need to measure a wide range of plasma parameters in order to reach and sustain high levels of fusion power and provide input to control systems with adequate reliability and long-term stability. The conference was the first appointment of the diagnostic community after the approval of ITER, and was therefore an opportunity to review the status of ITER diagnostics with particular reference to the capabilities of the present proposed systems to meet the requirements on the measurements. Critical issues related with the measurements of fast particles, fusion products, plasma facing components and radiation effects were addressed as well as new areas of diagnostic developments related with DEMO, the next step fusion reactor that will deliver electrical power from fusion.

Download or read book An Assessment of the Prospects for Inertial Fusion Energy written by Committee on the Prospects for Inertial Confinement Fusion Energy Systems and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2013-07-19 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The potential for using fusion energy to produce commercial electric power was first explored in the 1950s. Harnessing fusion energy offers the prospect of a nearly carbon-free energy source with a virtually unlimited supply of fuel. Unlike nuclear fission plants, appropriately designed fusion power plants would not produce the large amounts of high-level nuclear waste that requires long-term disposal. Due to these prospects, many nations have initiated research and development (R&D) programs aimed at developing fusion as an energy source. Two R&D approaches are being explored: magnetic fusion energy (MFE) and inertial fusion energy (IFE). An Assessment of the Prospects for Inertial Fusion Energy describes and assesses the current status of IFE research in the United States; compares the various technical approaches to IFE; and identifies the scientific and engineering challenges associated with developing inertial confinement fusion (ICF) in particular as an energy source. It also provides guidance on an R&D roadmap at the conceptual level for a national program focusing on the design and construction of an inertial fusion energy demonstration plant.
