Based on evidence-based practice and the vast experience of all authors, the book guides the reader through the diagnostic hierarchy and selection of the requisite approach for managing various disorders of the different regions of the spine. The book also identifies some of the most common potential complications of certain techniques and discusses strategies for avoiding them. The various surgical techniques have been described in the form of case presentations and illustrated with the help of images. The book will be of interest to not only neurosurgeons but also orthopaedic surgeons. Book Practical Handbook of Neurosurgery

Download or read book Practical Handbook of Neurosurgery written by Marc Sindou and published by Springer. This book was released on 2009-06-29 with total page 1712 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Practical Handbook of Neurosurgery” invites readers to take part in a journey through the vast field of neurosurgery, in the company of internationally renowned experts. At a time when the discipline is experiencing a (detrimental) tendency to segment into various subfields and scatter in the process, it can be worthwhile to collect a number of practical lessons gleaned from experienced and leading neurosurgeons. The book also aims to present numerous important figures in the neurosurgical community, with a brief overview of the vitae and main contributions for each. We must confess that we were sad that some of the most active members were unable to participate, likely due to time constraints. We are however fortunate that the majority were able to take part. As such, though not exhaustive, the book does represent an anthology of contemporary neurosurgeons. From the preface: At the very beginning of the project, our intention was to make a “poetbook”. But month after month it became obvious that the work would be much more expansive; ultimately we produced three volumes. Nevertheless we hope that all the three volumes together will remain easily accessible and a daily companion. The pocket has to be more like a travel bag! We would like to thank all of the contributors; they have sacrficed their valuable time to deliver sound and critical views, and above all useful guidelines.

Book Advances and Technical Standards in Neurosurgery

Download or read book Advances and Technical Standards in Neurosurgery written by J. D. Pickard and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As an addition to the European postgraduate training system for young neurosurgeons, we began to publish in 1974 this series of Advances and Technical Standards in Neurosurgery which was later sponsored by the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies. This series was first discussed in 1972 at a combined meeting of the Italian and German Neurosurgical Societies in Taormina, the founding fathers of the series being Jean Brihaye, Bernard Pertuiset, Fritz Loew and Hugo Krayenbuhl. Thus were established the principles of European co operation which have been born from the European spirit, flourished in the European Association, and have been associated throughout with this senes. The fact that the English language is now the international medium for communication at European scientificconferences is a great asset in terms of mutual understanding. Therefore we have decided to publish all contri butions in English, regardless of the native language of the authors. All contributions are submitted to the entire editorial board before publication of any volume for scrutiny and suggestions for revision. Our series is not intended to compete with the publications of original scientificpapers in other neurosurgical journals. Our intention is, rather, to present fields of neurosurgery and related areas in which important recent advances have been made. The contributions are written by specialists in the given fieldsand constitute the first part of each volume.

Book Advances and Technical Standards in Neurosurgery

Download or read book Advances and Technical Standards in Neurosurgery written by Johannes Schramm and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-19 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume of Advances and Technical Standards in Neurosurgery covers some important new developments in functional neurosurgery and endovascular therapy. In the Technical Standards section a variety of topics are considered, including optic pathway gliomas, pineal lesions, cavernous sinus meningiomas and the eternal problem of minor and repetitive head injury. Endovascular treatment of a variety of lesions is now common practice and the state of the art in endovascular treatment for acute ischemic stroke is reviewed. An appraisal of the evidence on whether there is a place for microsurgical vascular decompression for essential hypertension raises interesting questions. The volume is completed by contributions on neurosurgical treatment of cluster headaches and occipital nerve stimulation.

A very detailed chapter will provide new guidelines for neuroimaging investigations for intracerebral pathological conditions of surgical interest in the pediatric population. The technical aspects and technological advances in the surgical management of cerebral midline tumors will be covered by several chapters focusing of the optic pathways’ tumors, third ventricle tumors, mesencephalon and pineal body tumors. An update on Chiari malformations and syringomyelia, on the surgical management of epilepsy and on cerebral aneurysms and pediatric spinal vascular malformations will be provided in the remaining contributions. All chapters contribute to an important advancement in the relevant fields, thus offering a valuable contribution to the management of difficult clinical conditions.
