Download or read book Neural Networks for Dynamic Shortest Path Routing Problems A Survey written by Dr. K. Duraiswamy and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper reviews the overview of the dynamic shortest path routing problem and the various neural networks to solve it. Different shortest path optimization problems can be solved by using various neural networks algorithms. The routing in packet switched multi-hop networks can be described as a classical combinatorial optimization problem i.e. a shortest path routing problem in graphs. The survey shows that the neural networks are the best candidates for the optimization of dynamic shortest path routing problems due to their fastness in computation comparing to other softcomputing and metaheuristics algorithms.

Book Comparative Study of Speed Up Routing Algorithms in Road Networks

Download or read book Comparative Study of Speed Up Routing Algorithms in Road Networks written by Raheleh Zarei Chamgordani and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We study the problem of finding the shortest distance and the shortest path from one node to another in graphs modeling large road networks. Classical algorithms like Dijkstra and Astar do not have good performance in such networks. In recent years, two new approaches called Contraction Hierarchy and Hub Labeling which use preprocessing to generate auxiliary data to improve the query time performance were proposed, and many variants have followed. These algorithms are very efficient on large networks when a large number of queries is expected. In the literature, these algorithms are called speed-up algorithms. More recently, dynamic routing algorithms have been proposed, such as Customizable Contraction Hierarchy and Dynamic Hierarchical Hub Labeling. These are designed to respond efficiently to edge weight changes resulting from changes in traffic. In this thesis, we present an experimental study of the performance of the above static and dynamic routing algorithms on two different road networks, in terms of travel time and query processing time. Our results show that Customizable Contraction Hierarchy is the best for shortest path query in both the static and dynamic settings, while Hub Labeling is the most efficient in answering shortest distance queries in the static setting. We also show that Dynamic Hub Labeling's edge weight update operations are inefficient in practice.

Book Simulation Based Algorithms for Markov Decision Processes

Download or read book Simulation Based Algorithms for Markov Decision Processes written by Hyeong Soo Chang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-02-26 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Markov decision process (MDP) models are widely used for modeling sequential decision-making problems that arise in engineering, economics, computer science, and the social sciences. Many real-world problems modeled by MDPs have huge state and/or action spaces, giving an opening to the curse of dimensionality and so making practical solution of the resulting models intractable. In other cases, the system of interest is too complex to allow explicit specification of some of the MDP model parameters, but simulation samples are readily available (e.g., for random transitions and costs). For these settings, various sampling and population-based algorithms have been developed to overcome the difficulties of computing an optimal solution in terms of a policy and/or value function. Specific approaches include adaptive sampling, evolutionary policy iteration, evolutionary random policy search, and model reference adaptive search. This substantially enlarged new edition reflects the latest developments in novel algorithms and their underpinning theories, and presents an updated account of the topics that have emerged since the publication of the first edition. Includes: innovative material on MDPs, both in constrained settings and with uncertain transition properties; game-theoretic method for solving MDPs; theories for developing roll-out based algorithms; and details of approximation stochastic annealing, a population-based on-line simulation-based algorithm. The self-contained approach of this book will appeal not only to researchers in MDPs, stochastic modeling, and control, and simulation but will be a valuable source of tuition and reference for students of control and operations research.

Book Machine Behavior Design And Analysis

Download or read book Machine Behavior Design And Analysis written by Yinyan Zhang and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-03-13 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, we present our systematic investigations into consensus in multi-agent systems. We show the design and analysis of various types of consensus protocols from a multi-agent perspective with a focus on min-consensus and its variants. We also discuss second-order and high-order min-consensus. A very interesting topic regarding the link between consensus and path planning is also included. We show that a biased min-consensus protocol can lead to the path planning phenomenon, which means that the complexity of shortest path planning can emerge from a perturbed version of min-consensus protocol, which as a case study may encourage researchers in the field of distributed control to rethink the nature of complexity and the distance between control and intelligence. We also illustrate the design and analysis of consensus protocols for nonlinear multi-agent systems derived from an optimal control formulation, which do not require solving a Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation. The book was written in a self-contained format. For each consensus protocol, the performance is verified through simulative examples and analyzed via mathematical derivations, using tools like graph theory and modern control theory. The book’s goal is to provide not only theoretical contributions but also explore underlying intuitions from a methodological perspective.

Book Computational Intelligence in Logistics and Supply Chain Management

Download or read book Computational Intelligence in Logistics and Supply Chain Management written by Thomas Hanne and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-27 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with complex problems in the fields of logistics and supply chain management and discusses advanced methods, especially from the field of computational intelligence (CI), for solving them. The first two chapters provide general introductions to logistics and supply chain management on the one hand, and to computational intelligence on the other hand. The subsequent chapters cover specific fields in logistics and supply chain management, work out the most relevant problems found in those fields, and discuss approaches for solving them. Chapter 3 discusses problems in the field of production and inventory management. Chapter 4 considers planning activities on a finer level of granularity which is usually denoted as scheduling. In chapter 5 problems in transportation planning such as different types of vehicle routing problems are considered. While chapters 3 to 5 rather discuss planning problems which appear on an operative level, chapter 6 discusses the strategic problem of designing a supply chain or network. The final chapter provides an overview of academic and commercial software and information systems for the discussed applications. There appears to be a gap between general textbooks on logistics and supply chain management and more specialized literature dealing with methods for computational intelligence, operations research, etc., for solving the complex operational problems in these fields. For readers, it is often difficult to proceed from introductory texts on logistics and supply chain management to the sophisticated literature which deals with the usage of advanced methods. This book fills this gap by providing state-of-the-art descriptions of the corresponding problems and suitable methods for solving them.

Book Pro active Dynamic Vehicle Routing

Download or read book Pro active Dynamic Vehicle Routing written by Francesco Ferrucci and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with transportation processes denoted as the Real-time Distribution of Perishable Goods (RDOPG). The book presents three contributions that are made to the field of transportation. First, a model considering the minimization of customer inconvenience is formulated. Second, a pro-active real-time control approach is proposed. Stochastic knowledge is generated from past request information by a new forecasting approach and is used in the pro-active approach to guide vehicles to request-likely areas before real requests arrive there. Various computational results are presented to show that in many cases the pro-active approach is able to achieve significantly improved results. Moreover, a measure for determining the structural quality of request data sets is also proposed. The third contribution of this book is a method that is presented for considering driver inconvenience aspects which arise from vehicle en-route diversion activities. Specifically, this method makes it possible to restrict the number of performed vehicle en-route diversion activities.
