Book Florida Multifamily Efficiency Opportunities Study

Download or read book Florida Multifamily Efficiency Opportunities Study written by University of Florida. Public Utility Research Center and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of this study is to identify opportunities to improve the energy and water efficiency of Florida's multifamily rental properties. Because the bulk of savings potential in the multifamily building stock is in existing properties and because low-income households tend to bear a disproportionate share of the cost burdens associated with rental property inefficiencies, the focus is on identifying policy, program and code incentives to encourage Florida's multifamily property owners to invest in energy-and water-efficiency retrofit activities.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Praise for Developing Affordable Housing A Practical Guide for Nonprofit Organizations Third Edition "Ben Hecht's book explains in clear language everything needed to successfully engage in nonprofit housing development. He tells how to find the money, how to generate good design and quality construction, and how to improve management--a complete, well-researched, and well-presented 'A to Z' approach." --Henry G. Cisneros, former secretary U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development "Ben Hecht's book makes the affordable housing development process accessible for communities and practitioners everywhere. Developing Affordable Housing should be on the bookshelf of every organization that cares about people and wants to make affordable housing possible." --Rey Ramsey, former chairman, Habitat for Humanity CEO, One Economy Corporation "The development of affordable housing is as much a journey as a destination. Ben Hecht's book provides maps and bridges while not losing sight of the challenging but elusive goal of providing decent, safe, and affordable housing." --Nicolas P. Retsinas, Director, Joint Center for Housing Studies Harvard University "In our work to increase the supply of safe, decent homes for those who need homes the most, we appreciate the power of partnerships and the value of information. So does Ben Hecht. Developing Affordable Housing is more than a practical guide for nonprofits--it's a library, a trusted advisor, and a road map. Read this book and benefit from its wisdom." --Stacey D. Stewart, President and CEO, Fannie Mae Foundation

Book Rental Housing After Subsidy

Download or read book Rental Housing After Subsidy written by Caleb Stewart and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ABSTRACT: Much of the nation's rental housing is affordable to low income families as a result of local, state and national government subsidy programs that help to keep rents low. Property owners receive incentives such as rent subsidies and below market interest rate loans in exchange for keeping rents affordable to low income households for a designated period of time (Center for Housing Policy, 2008). These properties are subject to regular inspections during the designated period of time to ensure that they continue to provide quality housing to their tenants. Physical deterioration is a problem for the subsidized rental housing stock, since it can render a building uninhabitable or force an owner to raise the property's rents in order to rehabilitate the building. If a property fails an inspection, subsidies and below market interest rate loans attached to the property can be withdrawn, forcing the owner to sell the property or raise rents to market rate. Additionally, as a property's contract to provide affordable housing expires, an owner can choose to opt out of the subsidy program and raise their rents to market rates (Center for Housing Policy, 2008).
