This book was released on 2003 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Synthesis Report 320: Integrating Freight Facilities and Operations with Community Goals identifies practices that have been or are being used by private-sector freight companies and public transportation agencies in citing their facilities, modifying their operations, and managing their community relations. "Good neighbor initiatives" and balancing practices employed by metropolitan planning and economic development organizations, local governments, and others are also recognized. The report covers water, truck, rail, and air freight facilities and operations. Although the report does not include pipelines, several of the issues and practices discussed are relevant to pipeline facilities and operations.

Book NCHRP Report 350 Testing of Montana Portable Concrete Safety Shape Barriers

Download or read book NCHRP Report 350 Testing of Montana Portable Concrete Safety Shape Barriers written by Eugene Buth and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The existing Montana Department of Transportation (DOT) concrete median barrier sections are 3.048 m (10 ft) long New Jersey shaped barriers with a pin-and-loop connection. Two pairs of 25 mm (1 in.) diameter wire rope loops are connected using a 660 mm (26 in.) long, 25 mm (1 in.) diameter pin that is not restrained at the bottom. Since the system has a low probability of complying with the NCHRP Report 350 guidelines, and the expected dynamic barrier deflection under design impact conditions is greater than desired by Montana DOT, two alternate barrier connection concepts were proposed and evaluated using computer simulations. These included a modified pin-and-loop connection and a newly conceived lapped splice connection. After these two designs appeared to perform acceptably during simulation, the proposed designs were constructed for full-scale crash testing to determine whether the designs would actually meet NCHRP Report 350 crash test criteria. This report presents the details of the simulation analysis, the details of the proposed barrier designs, the details of the full-scale crash tests, and the NCHRP Report 350 evaluation of each of the tests. Both the modified pin-and-loop barrier and the lapped splice connection barrier performed acceptably for NCHRP Report 350 test 3-11.

  • Pages : 43 pages

Download or read book Crash Records Systems written by National Cooperative Highway Research Program and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2005 with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Synthesis 350: Crash Records Systems examines crash records systems practices and programs as applied to highway and traffic safety. The report covers crash data collection, crash processing and management, and data linkages for reporting and analysis. While no single comprehensive system examples are identified in the report, many examples of one or more successful components were found to address the needs of three groups of stakeholders--data collectors, data managers, and data users. The report also contains information about lessons learned from examples of successful systems, addressing the needs and concerns of stakeholders.

Book NCHRP Report 350 Compliance Test of the New Jersey Safety Shaped Barrier

Download or read book NCHRP Report 350 Compliance Test of the New Jersey Safety Shaped Barrier written by King K. Mak and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The New Jersey safety shaped barrier is one of the most common barriers currently in use on the Nation's highways. The barrier has successfully met all evaluation criteria set forth in National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Report 230. However, with the adoption of NCHRP Report 350 by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) as the official guidelines for crash testing of roadside safety features, it became necessary to reevaluate the New Jersey safety shaped barrier to the new guidelines. Of particular importance is the replacement of one of the design test vehicles specified in NCHRP Report 230, the 2044-kg passenger car, by a 2000-kg pickup truck (2000P) under NCHRP Report 350 guidelines. The crash test reported herein was performed as an effort to evaluate the New Jersey safety shaped barrier according to NCHRP Report 350 guidelines. The crash test performed corresponded to NCHRP Report 350 test designation 3-11 involving a 2000P test vehicle impacting the barrier at a nominal speed and angle of 100 km/h and 25 degrees. The New Jersey safety shaped barrier met all evaluation criteria set forth in NCHRP Report 350 and the test was judged to be satisfactory.

Book Development of an NCHRP Report 350 TL 3 New Jersey Shape 50 inch Portable Concrete Barrier

Download or read book Development of an NCHRP Report 350 TL 3 New Jersey Shape 50 inch Portable Concrete Barrier written by Chuck A. Plaxico and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For roadside work-zones in areas that have opposing traffic flow, safety is enhanced if the temporary barriers incorporate a "glare-shield" that blocks headlight glare from opposing traffic. Currently-available 32-inch portable concrete barriers require the use of an add-on glare shield attached to the top of the barrier. The add-on glare shields are an extra expense and complicate barrier set-up and handling. An alternative solution was to develop a 50-inch high portable concrete barrier which is tall enough to serve as its own glare-shield. Finite element analysis was used to investigate various barrier shapes and connection schemes to identify a successful crashworthy design that would meet requirments of NCHRP Report 350 Test level 3. A 50-inch portable concrete barrier design was developed based on the results of the finite element analyses and was crash tested at the Transportation Research Center in East Liberty, Ohio. The system successfully met all safety criteria of NCHRP Report 350 and has been approved by the Federal Highway Administration for use on the National Highway System as a test level 3 device.
