Book Nature Interrupted

Download or read book Nature Interrupted written by Darlene R. Stille and published by Capstone. This book was released on 2008-09 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our world is made up of interconnected systems. When one element changes, the entire system is affected, and nature must absorb the changes or be thrown out of balance. People often cause these environmental chain reactions through negative actions such as dumping chemical waste. But sometimes they are caused by a good ideas. It might start with a plan to get rid of disease causing insects or to fertilize soil to grow more crops. An environmental chain reaction can affect an area as small as a pond in a city park or as big as the whole planet. Nature requires a delicate balance, and it often takes just one small action to have far reaching effects.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Science Interrupted examines how scientists in China pursue environmental sustainability within the constraints of domestic and international bureaucracies. Timothy G. McLellan offers a theoretical framework for analyzing the formal procedural work of Chinese bureaucracy—work that is overlooked when China scholars restrict their gaze to the informal and interpersonal channels through which bureaucracy is often navigated. Homing in on an agroforestry research organization in southwest China, the author takes the experiences of the organization's staff in navigating diverse international funding regimes and authoritarian state institutions as entry points for understanding the pervasiveness of bureaucracy in contemporary science. He asks: What if we take the tools, sensibilities, and practices of bureaucracies seriously not only as objects of critique but as resources for re-thinking scientific practice? Extending a mode of anthropological research in which ethnography serves as source of theory as well as source of data, Science Interrupted thinks with, and not only against, bureaucracy. McLellan shows that ethnographic engagement with bureaucracy enables us to imagine more democratic and more collaborative modes of scientific practice.

His passion for the supernatural and for ghost stories together with a fascination for all things in the occult and mysticism created some of the most enthralling works ever written. HP Lovecraft referred to his works as that of a master. Henry James in referring to The Bright Messenger said "the most extraordinary novel on psychoanalysis, one that dwarfs the subject." Many other authors similarly lauded him. Today his works are beginning to regain their former popularity. Here we publish one of his classic novels, The Bright Messenger, one of a number of books that any fan of the occult should read.

Book Towards a holistic approach to support learners at risk of interrupted development

Download or read book Towards a holistic approach to support learners at risk of interrupted development written by Macalane J. Malindi and published by AOSIS. This book was released on 2024-02-23 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions that came with it led to unprecedented disruptions in learner development and put them at risk of poor developmental outcomes. It is thus important that the extent of the disruption on their development and the support needs of learners be investigated. Researching the impact of the disruption should focus on holistic development. In this book, the authors use multiple research approaches and methods of gathering data in their respective fields to examine the impact of the disruption and determine the support needs of learners. Data gathered through the different methods are processed and findings are presented. The findings have implications for both practice and future research in the fields of inclusive education, learner support, educational psychology, movement education, Life Orientation and curriculum development.
