  • Author : Helen Vendler
  • Publisher : Harvard University Press
  • Release : 2009-06-30

Download or read book Poets Thinking written by Helen Vendler and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2009-06-30 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poetry has often been considered an irrational genre, more expressive than logical, more meditative than given to coherent argument. And yet, in each of the four very different poets she considers here, Helen Vendler reveals a style of thinking in operation; although they may prefer different means, she argues, all poets of any value are thinkers. The four poets taken up in this volume--Alexander Pope, Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson, and William Butler Yeats--come from three centuries and three nations, and their styles of thinking are characteristically idiosyncratic. Vendler shows us Pope performing as a satiric miniaturizer, remaking in verse the form of the essay, Whitman writing as a poet of repetitive insistence for whom thinking must be followed by rethinking, Dickinson experimenting with plot to characterize life's unfolding, and Yeats thinking in images, using montage in lieu of argument. With customary lucidity and spirit, Vendler traces through these poets' lines to find evidence of thought in lyric, the silent stylistic measures representing changes of mind, the condensed power of poetic thinking. Her work argues against the reduction of poetry to its (frequently well-worn) themes and demonstrates, instead, that there is always in admirable poetry a strenuous process of thinking, evident in an evolving style--however ancient the theme--that is powerful and original.

Book Through the Eyes of the Eagle

Download or read book Through the Eyes of the Eagle written by Bryce Berth and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2021-05-12 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The title, Through the Eyes of the Eagle, was actually birthed three years prior to the writing of the book. When the author was inspired and compelled to write the story of his life three years later in 2017, his remembrance of a spiritual experience that took place in 2014 would be the stimulus to consider the title. This spiritual experience was an actual visitation and sighting of a golden eagle. This experience became his motivation to choose the title. The title chosen is really a metaphor of sorts and symbolic representation of the author's spiritual eyesight wanting to convey this compelling story as seen through his eyes. When the visitation and sighting took place in August 2014, the author knew there was a higher spiritual connotation to be understood. Yearning for the meaning, the author researched the significance. What the author learns put his compelling story of his life into perspective. He realizes the significance of this sighting was proportionate precisely and relative to what he had been through in his life and what he had learned from a higher perspective. What he learned and already understood were the specifics of spiritual messages that the eagle is trying to convey when one is visited by one. Specifically, when the eagle appears, one is to be fully aware, to be courageous, and to stretch one's limits. Look at things from a new and higher perspective, and know that the future holds possibilities that one may not be able to see. Additionally, with respect to its symbolism and powers, the eagle conveys powers and messages of the spirit. It is man's connection to the divine. In this sighting, the author learns and understands that the eagle bestows freedom and courage to look ahead, and the lesson of the sighting is that one must have the courage to relinquish the state of comfortable habits and beliefs to soar into unknown realms and realities. On that particular day of his life, it seemed to the author that the lessons learned summed up his entire life story. After this magnificent experience, friends, with whom he had shared the spiritual experience of the eagle sighting with, gave him the name Eagle because of his spiritual eyesight and its accuracy. In their opinion, his eyesight was as impeccable as the eyesight of an eagle. The name given stuck and became a profound inspiration to the author to eventually convey this compelling and inspirational story as seen through his eyes, the eyes of the eagle.

Many times, you may fall prey to a disease, and then you have to go hunting for the nearest pill in order to “cure” it, but this book is going to tell you all about a large number of ailments and diseases out there, and how people have been preventing those ailments from occurring through natural remedies, down the ages. Nowadays, most of us consider ourselves very lucky because we have state-of-the-art medical technology in order to take care of our health. However, these diseases are still present, even though the medicines to take care of them are supposedly easily available to you either over the counter or prescribed by your doctor. And many times you find out that even though you have taken that medicine, you have not quite managed to throw off the symptoms of that disease or even that infection. So this book is for all those people, who find themselves suffering occasionally from a number of ailments, and wondered just how they managed to get ill. All these ailments could have been prevented with a little bit of judicial usage of spices, herbs, vegetables, fruit, and other natural easily available products.

Download or read book A COSMIC BIRTH STARTING BEFORE ZERO written by PSJ (Peet) Schutte and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2013-07-12 with total page 740 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I explain Genesis 1 v 1, the beginning or birth of the Universe in terms of the Bible using not theology but mathematics. I prove Genesis 1 verse 1 to be correct by using mathematics. The Bible says: IN THE BEGINNING OF CREATION, 1 when God made heaven and earth, 2 the earth was without form and void... 3... with darkness over the face of the abyss...Yes this I do explain mathematically and I manage this because I prove and explain four cosmic keys that build the Universe namely: The Titius Bode Law; The Lagrangian Points, The Roche limit and Coanda Effect Everything in nature in the Universe applies these phenomena in how space forms. The Titius Bode Law: The Lagrangian Points: The Roche Coanda Effect forms the Universe in as much as forming stars in spheres and forming galactica in circles. These principles form space and materials. This is a process that produces space and that is how the Universe began before the Universe began in space. I take the cosmic birth back to before space came about as the Big Bang.

Download or read book Strong Opinions written by Chris Danta and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2011-07-14 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new collection of essays on Coetzee examines how his novels create and unsettle literary authority. Its unique contribution is to show how Coetzee provokes us into reconsidering certain basic formal and existential questions such as the nature of literary realism, the authority of the author and the constitution of the human self in a posthumanist setting by consciously revealing the literary-theoretical seams of his work. Strong Opinions makes the innovative claim that Coetzee's work is driven not by a sense of scepticism or nihilism but rather by a form of controlled exposure that defines the literary. The essays in the volume variously draw attention to three of Coetzee's most recent and significant experiments in controlled exposure. The first is the exposure of place-Coetzee's decision to set his novels in his newly adopted country of Australia. The second is the exposure of form-Coetzee's direct, almost essayistic address of literary-philosophical topics within his novels. And the third is the exposure of limits-Coetzee's explicit deconstruction of the traditional limits of human life.

Book Self Interaction and Natural Environment

Download or read book Self Interaction and Natural Environment written by Andrew J. Weigert and published by SUNY Press. This book was released on 1997-01-01 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Self, Interaction, and Natural Environment helps us as individuals to understand environmental issues and to respond accordingly. Although it acknowledges that such issues exist on a worldwide scale, it sharpens our focus on the personal level. For example, it shows that most people do not consider the pollution they cause by operating cars or fertilizing lawns. Throughout the text, the author links ideas to both social concerns and everyday activities, helping readers to comprehend political decisions that involve the environment, as well as making them more aware of their own role in that respect.
